As much grief as I've given Romo in the past, I still think he gives this team the best chance to win. I think he just needs to be able to stay focused on a game plan.
About his 3rd INT (near Witten), Romo said, “I just didn’t get enough on the throw. ... I thought it was going to be a big play for us, honestly. It’s disappointing because I thought he was coming open past all the linebackers and there’s no safety help to that side. I wish I could have that throw back and just throw it further.”
Tony needs to know the situation. 4:22 left. 1st & 10 @DAL20. You don't NEED a big play there. Yes, a big play moves the ball and eats clock, but you can eat clock without having to have that big play right then and there.
Tony was looking at/for Witten the whole time on that play. If he rolls or looks to his right, he has ?Phillips I think? in the flat, easy, safe throw, picks up 3-4yds but most importantly, keeps the clock rolling; unless it's an absolutely horrible throw, the pass goes nowhere near a defender.
Worst case, you don't move the ball, you give your very good punter a shot to push them back and give the defense a chance to make a play...like last week. It's was just about as boneheaded a play as Felix ducking out of bounds short of the 1st down marker b/c he obviously wasn't aware that it was 4th down.
That's the most frustrating part about this with Romo. It's not like he had an all-around bad game... it's 1 or 2 or 3 poor decisions. It's not a major flaw in his mechanics, it's not bad blocking, it's not a lot of things...just poor decisions.
