The BTB article shows the New York Giants received incredible production from their free agent signings and the internal development of Landon Collins in 2016.
The G-Men went from nine DL participating in 20% or more of the snaps in 2015 to six this season and almost doubled their Approximate Value according to Football Outsiders (from 29 to 54).
That was due to free agent signings Damon Harrison and Olivier Vernon (33 AV).
The piece shows Dallas had eight DL this season with 20% or higher snap cunts and an AV of 38, which is much better than the '15 Giants but nowhere close to NY's production now. All four of the Giants' starters out-valued the Cowboys' best DL.
Harrison (18), Vernon (15), Pierre-Paul (8) and Hankins(8) vs Maliek Collins (7), Tyrone Crawford (7), Terrell McClain (7) and Jack Crawford (6).
The Giants relied very heavily of their top four, getting only 7 AV points from their four reserve DL.
Dallas got more production out of their back-ups (12 AV).
The Boys got hurt by planning on having Randy Gregory (suspension) and DeMarcus Lawrence (suspension, injury) and getting little from the duo.
Gregory is suspended until further notice, Lawrence is recovering from a second back surgery while McClain (29 July), Crawford (29 Sept) and Ryan Davis (28 Feb) are soon to be unrestricted free agents.
The team needs to sign a true RDE in free agency to platoon with Benson Mayowa and have an eye out for any potential bargain DL signings before turning to the draft for long term help.
