I understand. However I doubt they would keep TO at that point or maybe they will just let him sit and heal.

JUST A THOUGHT.

The price for Branch is a #1. Even a #2 is too high.

To waive TO would be salary cap suicide.

You're basically saying let's spend 25% of our 2006 salary on WR.

No thank you.

Knowing Stephen and Jerry Jones desire not to handicap this team, that scenario is not probable.

If we get a WR, it won't be a fantasy name WR, just a guy who can do the job.

In my opinion its time to get Branch it's time to pull the trigger and get Branch. Get a young guy with a future who is not a complete jerk off. Eat the 5 mil and move on.

In my opinion the TO situation will be resolved by this Friday. The boys will either keep him for the long run or they will make a play for Branch.

That's ridiculous...

There's no way in hell that we could possibly make a deal to get branch that will make both sides happy.

There's no way that he will come in and be the 3rd wideout.

What has Deion Branch done to proclaim himself the savior of any franchise? Anybody?

I chided the Skins for giving up a 3rd + 4th round pick (or the other scenario, I know). If the Boys gave up a 1st for him, I would call the Skins geniuses.

Anything higher than a 3rd for Branch is robbery.

Let's rethink T.O.'s importance
By Jennifer, Floyd Engel.
Star-Telegram Staff Writer

IRVING - Saying who is and who is not legitimately injured is dangerous business.

One player's sore hammy is another's sorry excuse to skip practice and further gig his old-school coach and send a not-so-subtle reminder of who is actually in control.

What we do not know for sure is which is the case with Mr. Initials?

Oh, I can venture a guess at his motivation. Philly followers can, too, and probably already have after T.O. missed his third straight Cowboys preseason game Saturday.

He did not miss anything too earth-shattering. The Cowboys' defense is still very good. Their offense is not bad, not bad at all. Their big-time kicker remains a no-show. And preseason is still a gigantic waste of time, energy and ticket-buyers' money.

Nothing means anything until the games count in the standings.

This, of course, is the T.O./Deion Sanders joint argument. They believe and have so eloquently stated that preseason and practice are unnecessary evils for the imminently talented.

Go watch the film, Big Bill, was their consensus opinion. Or to use T.O.'s exact phraseology from Wednesday: "If he wants to see something, he has 10 years of film."

Of course, Parcells has plenty of film, a personal relationship and real-life experience from drafting and coaching Terry Glenn. And of Glenn, everybody deemed Saturday's festivities at Texas Stadium worthy of his time and effort.

Glenn played like what he is - a professional.

He had another spectacular diving catch in the end zone for a touchdown. And when he called it a night midway through the second quarter, he had just added a 52-yard catch to his duty roster.

Who again misses who was missing?

Seems to me that Jamaica Rector and Sam Hurd have been filling in nicely. And Glenn looks good to go as a No. 1 receiver.

I can already hear the Mr. Initials apologists, including a certain Cowboys owner: "But Glenn is not injured like T.O." Or, "This is just the preseason."

Garbage games, right?

Then why does this franchise seem prepared to tab Tony Romo as the next Troy Aikman based on what happens in them? And why are vets such as Drew Bledsoe and Larry Allen and Glenn playing?

The easy answer is, unlike T.O., they are not injured.

Real or exaggerated, and who really knows, his hammy has earned him a get-out-of-the-preseason-free card. It also has given the Cowboys a chance to see if they can be all right without him.

So far, so good.

Possibly better, if you throw in the headache factor.

T.O.'s "better teammate" and "better man" pledge did not survive Parcells getting a little cranky about his sore hammy, so I am doubtful about it surviving a two-catch game in Philly. Or when Glenn goes for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Or when Bledsoe misses him wide open in the end zone.

Maybe, he will not implode. Maybe, he really is injured.

My vote is the Cowboys would be better off not waiting around to find out.

But if anybody in this organization, and especially Big Bill, has an inkling that T.O. is not seriously hurt, they would be wise to cut his butt now.

Doing so now costs them only his $5 million signing bonus. And saves them a lot of headaches.

If JJ were to veto this - and he would - at least, suggest to T.O. that such actions are under consideration. I have a feeling that will solve the mystery of just how legit his injury really is.

Jennifer Floyd Engel can be heard weekdays 9 a.m.-noon on Dennis and Engel on ESPN/103.3 FM.

TEAMS MAKING A PLAY FOR BRANCH?

Players have little to say on Deion
By John Tomase/ Patriots Notebook
Boston Herald Sports Writer

Sunday, August 27, 2006 - Updated: 11:52 AM EST

FOXBORO - Reaction among Patriots players to the news that Deion Branch has been granted permission to seek a trade was predictably muted.

“Deion’s a good player. He’s my lockermate,” said tight end Benjamin Watson. “But even more, he’s a good friend. Hopefully when the time is right for him and the organization, he comes back and plays. That’s about it.”

Tight end Daniel Graham seconded Watson.

“That’s between Deion and the team,” said Graham, one of Branch’s closest friends. “We’ve got nothing to do with that, but it’s disappointing losing someone of that caliber from this offense. We’ve got no control over it.”

Branch has until Friday at 4 p.m. to negotiate a contract with another team. He would not switch uniforms unless the Patriots could agree to a trade. Agent Jason Chayut declined comment last night.

According to various published reports, the Bears, Vikings, Seahawks, Eagles and Broncos should be among those interested.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick refused to answer questions about Branch, saying, “Next question,” to two queries before walking off the podium.

There's a part of me that really wants to see TO in a Cowboys uniform in a real game wreaking havoc on the rest of the NFL. He has already started acting a fool, but I don't think we should release him until we see if he will actually help us on the field. If the benefits of his play outweight the negatives of his behavior, then he is worth keeping. The only way to answer that is if he actually plays for us at some point. If he refuses to play, then let him go.

Ya, we kinda made our bed so we really have to find out if he'll play, which i think he will.

I've been in T.O.'s camp since he got here but im starting to get ticked off. I was thinking the whole this is been blown by the media but this guy is nutts.
He was fined $9500 for being late and missing rehabs.

This guy needs to be sit down and talked to. Either Jerry or Cowboys PR people. I think he needs guidance. He need someone to explain to him the situation he is in and on top how to talk to the Media. Learn to say NO COMMENT OR IM NOT TALKING TODAY. Everything he do will make the news so if he stays away for a least a month without talking, that will help him.
Im just sad about the whole situation.

if you would take a look at how things have turned out for joey in tampa. He was not a mistake maybe the price we paid was but having him here wasn't. We just didn't have a Qb that could throw the ball. You put Galloway with Bledsoe and he would have been fine.

i couldnt agree more with you, i liked Galloway alot, just imagine teaming him up with Glenn now.

Regardless of the upgrade in QB represented by Bledsoe over Carter, Terry and Joey still do not complement each other, skills wise.

We brought in Key because he excelled where neither Joey nor Terry did. And TO is a major upgrade in that complementary equation, because he will not just catch short balls over the middle..he will take those short to intermediate passes to the house. Just try to get Galloway over the middle.

I haven't noticed Joey doing much in Tampa but his same old same old - sidelines deep routes.

I suppose with the two tes, T and Joey wouldn't be as lacking as it was in 03...but I'd rather see Patrick paired up with Terry than Galloway.

Don't you have another conspiracy theory to think up about why your team is stinking up the joint?

We won't have to eat $5 mil--we can cut him with no penalty. The trick is what the Pats want. Reportedly, a few teams have already offered a 2nd which the Pats have turned down. They want a first. Do we give up a first (& probably something else)? The Lelie trade has started teams thinking of the points system (or whatever it is), so undoubtadly the Pats want something like that.

I'm at the point with TO where I say yes. Since we'll probably spend our first rounder on some sort of OL, I'd say give them the first for a young proven WR. However, I think Jerruh is too stubborn to admit a mistake yet.

Don't you know?! Al Saunders is cleverly having his team play badly to lull all of us into a false sense of security. Everyone will have their defenses down against the skins, who will then come in & light up the scoreboard.

It's true--Riggins said so!

That is what I was about to post..from what I understand (I MAY BE WRONG) if TO's on the roster for game one, his salary is guaranteed for the year.

How I see it is we have a small window of opporunity to bail out of this situation before the season begins.

KM, what mistake?

The man is injured.

If it were anyone else, even another high priced super star like Ty Law who also hardly played a preseason down and didn't practice much last summer, everyone would accept the fact he was 'healing'

'He's a vet...don't let him reinjure himself' would be the cry. Better to be safe than sorry stuff.

I hate like hell seeing a guy like TO as a 'victim', but his one crime to date is missing a rehab/meeting.
