Over the last week, many of us here on the Zone have heard something like this a number of times: “If you don’t like how the Cowboys are run, just go to another team. It’s Jerry’s right as owner to do whatever he wants, and if you don’t like it, leave”. I would like to address this idea.

What is often overlooked in this genre of response to our frustration is that people are not fans of a team for logical reasons. We are not choosing our football team like we would if we were buying a commodity which is the same everywhere you get it. We are emotionally aligned with our team for a number of reasons.

I, and many of us here on the zone, follow the Cowboys because of what they represented in their past. At their best they are quintessentially American. For those of us from North Texas and the surrounding states, the Cowboys are also part of our culture.

My grandmother who lives in the tiny Oklahoma town where Troy Aikman was raised brought me to the Dallas Cowboys. It is quite simply a part of me. I cannot just up and leave and neither can most of us here. The Cowboys are family for many of us and preserve the memories of those long gone who also rode with the star. I’m sure many here have similar stories.

So no, we cannot just go find another team.

What they have become and how this organization is managed is nothing we can be proud to associate with. What it has come to represent in its modern form is disgusting. It is deeply painful to see the franchise we love and its storied history be cheapened and erased by decades of nothing short of a circus directed by a man who cares for nothing but himself.

Do you understand now?
It's not even worth replying to, let alone making this thread.

Great post. Being a fan is a deep emotional investment and part of that is wanting the best for your team. Criticism comes from a place of caring and wanting to see improvements, not because you're ready to jump ship to the next team. It’s natural to be upset when poor management decisions hinder success. We've all been sticking with this team for our whole lives and through all the rough patches and shortcomings of the last 28 years. That proves our real dedication. It's not just about blind loyalty.

This isn't like we're complaining about just a few rough years. This is about almost THREE DECADES of mediocrity. We're tired of it, and we have the right to be openly critical of this front office and how they've turned this team into a laughing stock. If that kind of legacy makes you proud, good for you. But it's not good enough for most of us.

You're saying that you can't accept criticism of your posts but we have to accept yours that's not the peanut gallery I was speaking the truth I do not go around on every single thread that someone says something negative about the Cowboys and say go find another team there's the ones that you know who they are that do nothing but criticize the team 24 hours a day seven days a week 365 days a year around here I don't even know why they come on here they never have a single good thing to say that is not a fan it's OK to be upset and disappointed and say so it's OK to criticize things that are obvious which by the way some are obvious but some of us get tired of coming in here the same people hoping we lose hoping for defeats wishing we would take and they hope so because they hate the front office and then they forget fans no fan wishes for losses that's my number one rule if you say I hope we lose then I will come out here and tell you to look for another team if I notice you're a troll and that's all you do is post negative things I'm gonna tell you to go look for another team..

You can go read all my posts tell me how many times I've said that this year? I'm not one of those guys that will say it anytime I see something negative but I say it to those who deserve it and I'm actually being honest... I just wanna make sure you understand you you don't get to be negative about the team and say things that you think you need to say but then when we come criticize what you say you don't accept our criticism so it's OK for you to criticize the team but you don't wanna be criticized for it?
Someone calls me a slobber. I tell him in so many words, the same thing back and they report me. Never once on this forum or the old one have I pressed the report button. I’m proud of that and I’ve had battles. It’s usually the cowards that use the button.

Bingo!

Still a great forum, you kinda have to sift through the what is worth it, and the what ain't.
I'm pretty particular on that front.
Others are on a warpath for XY and Z reasons.
All the fun of the fair, and makes for interesting reading.
Its time to leap out of the window!

Good Night!

Something like this goes for me too. There's a story to my Cowboys fandom. And no matter how much criticism is posted here, anyone responding with such nonsense should be ashamed of him/herself. I've been calling these clowns out since I read it for the first time two seasons ago. Absolutely pathetic behavior.

Fortunately there have been only 3 or 4 members doing this crap as far as I know.

Ask yourself why are you a cowboy fan, I know why I am. I love the star what it represents, I understand what Mr. cowboy means. You don’t believe in the star you don’t believe in Mr. cowboy, then you have to ask yourself what is it about this franchises team that keeps me here. Because my grandma liked them. well if that’s what works for you, that’s not a bad thing. It’s just something you better think twice about that’s all once in a while. You gotta do it right for you.

Being a fan of a team can be like being in a love-hate relationship. If the relationship has become toxic and is making you miserable then you move on and find another one. It may not be easy to break away but at some point you have to. There’s some Cowboys fans that claim they have a secondary team they enjoy watching. I have only one team and it’s till death do us part for me and the Cowboys. It’s a love-hate relationship for all of us who follow the Cowboys but I still enjoy watching the team play regardless how bad it’s going for them. You’re not always going to be happy with the team you have or the QB you have. That’s part of being a fan but if you’ve gotten so down on the team that it’s making Sunday’s miserable for you then why continue to watch? I’ve had friends who’ve lost interest in their teams and stopped watching them. I used to be a huge boxing fan during the 70s, 80s and early 90s but I lost interest in the sport when all the great fighters I grew up with aged and retired.

After Tyson began to decline there wasn’t any fighters that really got me motivated about the sport and I stopped following boxing. I haven’t watched a fight since the mid 90s. As down as I am on the Cowboys, I’ll never lose interest in the team regardless how bad it gets or how unhappy I am with the way the Joneses run it. I pull for all the players even the ones I’m not high on. I come to this fan board to talk football, not complain all the time. A lot of fans use this board as a platform to vent their frustrations. The fans who come here to complain and bash Dak repeatedly day after day are wasting a lot of energy. There has to be something more entertaining than tearing down a football team and QB every day. If I felt the way some of you feel about the team and the QB I would lose interest and stop watching the Cowboys or waste my time talking about them.

From Jerry, back to the strike season. All the way back to where they claimed we never win the big game. I’ve been a fan and I’m not going anywhere. Love the Cowboys, hate the Cowboys, I love watching teams I hate lose. And I love watching the Cowboys win or lose. I totally get the relationship. I just like being tortured I guess. Lol I still believe in Mr. cowboy.

I used to think this was true for me.

I thought I couldn't stop caring about the Cowboys, but the more I distance myself, the less I care.

Jerry Jones does not deserve my time and attention, nor yours.
And yet somehow you make special time out of your day to come into a Cowboys related site and give up your time so you're saying there's a big difference between time and attention because this is time and attention it may not be direct but indirectly you still have the Cowboys living rent free in your head do you not understand that those people who say they don't care anymore they would not have a special account to speak about the Cowboys they would just tell their friends and family when they're hanging out or someone at the bar they don't like the Cowboys anymore they used to be fans blah blah blah but they come make a special sign in and make special posts about the Dallas Cowboys you are giving your time and attention to the Dallas Cowboys this is not normal for people to sign up for special extra bonus Internet social media sites to talk about the Cowboys that's going an extra mile that is time and attention that is not a casual fan therefore they still do have you...lol:muttley::popcorn:

The "go follow another team" is only done by someone throwing a little hissy fit like a little kid, nothing more.
Yup. And in this online world we could indeed be dealing with children or folks who are stunted in their mental or emotional growth. Heck, I'm not crazy just a little unwell lol

At this point the Cowboys team is more like an ex-wife to me. I can still remember the good times and there are still some feelings there, but I have moved on from the deep love that I had because of the current regime and the state of the franchise. It has gone in an opposite direction of what I loved about it to begin with.

Us real Cowboy fans will still be here.
Oh bs, how can you up with this crap?

I'm completely ready for Jerry to hit the highway.

After the last 9 years of beating the drum all they have left is . . . "Find another team" . . .

The madness that is the Dak Fandom can only come to terms with the Commitment of the next 5 years and the ramifications of the salary cap restrictions that it brings is by proclaiming everyone that is saying told you so to be gone and stop reminding them of their misdirected obsessive support of a King with No Clothes

This is just the beginning of the Epic Failures that are to come

The signing was complete Madness and this is the product just after 6 games in of a 5 year relationship

All they have to lean on is to find another team just like Dak said

Another odd thing Dak has said is in order for this season not to nose dive, Jerry needs to Spend More . . . Amazing

Now everyone is saying Jerry has not provided Dak with weapons . . . Amazing
