Eatman is wrong. In fact, two guards (interior players) have gone in the top 10 two times in the modern era of the draft. The last time was 1988 when Dave Cadigan was No. 8 and Eric Moore was 10.

Cant be.:D
Cadigan played OT at USC and was even listed as G/T in the nfl. I think Moore did too but can't find anything with Indiana but with the Giants he's also listed as a G/T.

nfl.com draft shows both as OTs

I the history of the NFL, neither five place-kickers nor five long-snappers have been selected in the first round of the same draft. I feel comfortable saying that with no research.

This thread is not accurate. In 1988 Cadigan and Moore were drafted as Tackles.

The very first Draft, held in 1936 had 3 guards taken at picks 7, 8, and 14.

In 1947 two were taken at picks 3 and 16.

In 1960 three Guards taken at 7, 14, and 16.

In 1966 two Guards were taken at 2 and 5, the second was John Niland by the Cowboys.

In 1967 Gene Upshaw, a Hall of Famer was the 3rd Guard taken at 17. Guards also taken at 9 and 12.

In 1975 at 3 and 13 two Guard taken.

In 1976 at 14 and 15.

In 1977 the 2nd was taken at 18, the first at 14.

In 1982 Hall of Famer Mike Munchak was taken at 8, and another Guard was taken at 17.

I sent this info to the OP last night but I guess he missed it. Eatman is completely wrong if he said this.

Good catch, but then again, that was when the running game was a huge part of the NFL;)

Upshaw was drafted as a tackle, not a guard.

I don't expect him to be there.

Those shiny objects are not there this year.
No great QBs
No great WRs
RBs are de-valued.
No great TEs

Year for some solid trench players, some very good ones also.

(when I say "No" in this instance, I mean nothing that spins heads and is a must have, and worth that type of money )

I'm kinda just hoping Cooper, Warmack, and Vaccaro are all gone so that there is a better chance will go DT in the first :laugh2:

Yesterday when I posted, I wondered how long it had been since you posted here. February 4th. About as long as my silence? Not sure. I bet someone you could not help commenting if I posted. Thank you for helping me win that suckers bet. The obsession is flattering, but I'm taken.

In your rush to jump on me as usual, you tripped over facts. Art Shell was a Tackle. Gene Upshaw played Left Guard.

You actually made such a bet before posting?

And with at least 2 months having passed since the last occurrence?

Both Warmack and Cooper will be available at #18, and we won't be taking either of them.

So calm your panties about these guys. It's not happening.

We'll be taking Shelton or Williams.

A story I heard that some might find interesting about the '82 draft.

The St. Louis Cardinals were on the clock at 15 when their time ran out. The Lions jumped them to take a LB, the Cardinals ran up with Luis Sharpe.

The reason their time ran out was because they had their card ready and called Sean Farrell with a minute or so left to tell him he was their pick and Farrell told them to jump in a lake, he'd never sign with them. They then had to call Sharpe...Sharpe turned out to be a terrific player and pick. Farrell went next at 17 to Tampa.

It has been since the 60's since a RB did not go in the first round of the NFL draft. People are predicting it could and probably will happen this year.

People don't take kickers in the first round...but the Raiders did.

Jerry never drafted an offensive linemen with the first round pick in the draft...until he did with T. Smith.

Anything can happen in the draft. Just because it has not happened before does not mean it will not happen.

So did the Saints. Russell Erxleben at #11 overall :muttley:

In the history of the NFL, this is the second year of the new draft rules and money format.

Just like drafting patterns in the 1950s may have very little to do with drafts today, there may be some new thinking on how or who to draft.

Although I hope that some QBs, CBs and WRs sneak in so one of the good guards (or a DT) gets pushed down to the Cowboys.

This thread needs to stay on topic and not devolve into anything personal. It's a good thread (maybe a great one). Let's keep it that way, ok?

Open mouth, change feet. Point blank, you were dead wrong as usual.

Here is a list of all Guards ever drafted. Who is that in 1967 from Texas A & I?

Here is a list of all Tackles ever drafted. Upshaw was drafted in 1967. Scrolling down to 1967, what name is conspicuously absent among Tackles?

Here's his player profile on Pro Football Reference again. How come it doesn't say Tackle anywhere?

So you're telling everyone here that a guy who never played Tackle in the NFL in his entire 15 year Hall of Fame career, was drafted as a Tackle, but there is no evidence anywhere to show this, and NFL content sites, including the Pro Football Hall of Fame, where it says "played Guard exclusively," are all wrong?

No, it's just you.

I seriously doubt that. You just signed your quarterback to a large contract extension and I would think protecting your quarterback is the number one priority. If Cooper or Warmack are there, I GUARANTEE whoever is there will be the pick. Although not in much better shape, are defensive line is in better shape than our offensive line and selecting Richardson or Williams over Cooper/Warmack if one of them is there is foolish in my opinion. Adding Cooper/Warmack and signing Winston/Clabo/Moore would instantly upgrade our offensive line.
