In Will McClay, Cowboys will be covered

McClay might have had a hand in these, but so did Garrett if you look at it. Robinson was vouched for by Turner, Garrett even played with Frank Walker.

Robinson was an excellent find. Although it seems like almost everyone in the organization at one time has been credited with that find. Who will get credit next? It is a shame wade Phillips and rob Ryan had to screw up all our drafts in the past. Ha ha.

Given the idea that all decisions are group decisions by "consensus", it is pretty hard to designate anyone as a savior.

All I know for certain is this.
We couldn't find a street free agent worth anything at all for about a decade.
Then all of a sudden we could.
It's been widely reported that Will McClay is the reason for that.

Last year McClay was given some draft say and all of a sudden we get higher marks after the season than on draft day for once.

Maybe this is all coincidence but I find that hard to believe.

The Summer will be full of both fluff pieces and abject moody fan hate.
They are about equal parts useful, i.e. none.
At the same time common sense leads one to believe McClay came into this org at a really low place.. Desper-friggin-ados and has worked his way into a role as Personnel Golden Boy. I am pretty sure he isn't a Jones and wasn't a Parcells guy so he seems to have made his way on effort and results.

Guess we should simply re-hire Lacewell and stick to the good ole boy ways of Cowboys past.

I love summer! Don't you?

He coached the AFL team for Jerry Jones, so he is not exactly an "outsider".

I am more interested to see if he has the fortitude to stand up for what he believes in or simply plays a political role in the whole "group" thought process that is part of the issue right now. He honestly needs to be a real voice for the scouts and a direction for the franchise, not another cog in the overall machine. The coaches need to butt out and there needs to be a vision for what we want the team to look like, regardless of who is coaching them. So far, it is the Rod Marinelli show.

My problem with this coronation is that he's been in the organization since 2002. Twelve years! So he's fully entrenched in the Jerry Family. If he were this great personnel man, why is he just now getting the job?

Sorry, but I have to think he got this promotion more than familiarity than anything else. It almost reminds me of Jerry giving the playcalling to Callahan... 'I want someone else to have this job, who can I get to give it to? Bill's here on the payroll already and has some experience, I'll just give it to him."

I'd have a lot more faith in McClay if he had a good track record and reputation around the league and we hired him away from somewhere else. Instead this feels like more familiarity and comfortability for Jerry.

Wow, this article reads like it was written by Mickey Spagnola.

I cannot believe so many are putting their faith in a total unknown like Will McClay to be the team savior.

The thing is, even if you want to believe he's some personnel savant, he still lacks the power to make a draft pick and he has no chance to advance past where is right now in this organization. If he's legit, he'll end up GMing another team some day.

So, if I take this right...you are saying that basically he is worthless to this organization?

No, he is just saying he is not going to be like most general managers across the league. He is another voice in the room.

He was with James Harris in Jacksonville for a while. Some people are never satisfied.

Oh...damn mind readers! How did you know that was what he was saying? My bad...(i guess)

I once dated a girl named Summer. Turns out, after a few dates I found out she was a hooker!

the bright side is that she had some experience

and, as far as McClay is concerned, my enthusiasm is a little tempered because his role is unknown to us for the most part...but, I know that I am excited to see if he can pull off a great draft...less than 30 days to go

Yea, I don't get why everybody has a hard on for this guy.

He found a couple of street free agents that didn't totally suck....................for that he gets a cult following?

Hey, this off-season is getting old, the draft is still 4 wks away, and we're just looking for anything to be optimistic about.

Don't go dropping turds in the punchbowl 'til I'm through drinkin.

You must be new here.

This is another BS Dallas story. Its always how talented the FO is or how "different" the FO is that makes Dallas a special contender. Really, its all BS. This is a dude Jerry hired in 2002 for his farm team that makes Jerry feel "comfortable". It's how it works in that messed up place. Of course he is going to keep promoting him (as long as he feels "comfortable"), its a shame of a NFL level FO.

Last year it was how Tom was a "behind the scenes" GM to Jerry. Its all smoke and mirrors with this dysfunctional family.
