I got blasted in the game thread for insinuating Romo threw that one (and the Dez drop) behind the receiver. Apparently if the receiver can catch it, it doesn't qualify as behind him. The TWill drop in the end zone was behind him as well.

The ball hit Dez in the hands right in the center of his body.

The ball in the endzone was tipped at the line.

That's what happens when you sit most of your starters during the entire preseason barring a few snaps here and there. Also of note , there was three divisional games played yesterday. All were extremely close. That's what happens when it's a divisional opponent. Let's not gloss over first game jitters and cob webs.

We're 1-0. 1-0 in division play. HUGE!!!

EVERYONE wants the perfect game. Take the win in this day of parity.

Winning is everything !!! And I want Dallas to win that Super Bowl 50 trophy !!!:star:

I am happy but that win was a miracle, never to be replicated.

Eli left over a minute on the clock, they tried not score on 2nd down, etc etc.....

It was good to see Tony step up and bring what we all know he has the potential to do when it really mattered, instead of returning to the Romo of a couple of seasons ago whereupon he would have crumbled.

Gutted for Dez, yeah the injury in preseason was his own stupidity - but we will miss him. On saying that, it was nice to see a lot of other players stepping up (Escobar, Im looking at you)

O-line did what the O-Line does, can't argue, best in the league.

The fight and willingness to win was what was crucial for me, and the win (and the manner of the win) will give the boys some much needed confidence going into Philly.

What is the record low post count before receiving blocked status? My new low is 5....

Romo was amazing, but you're right. His timing was bit off at time earlier in the game.
Even then, as a whole, he was amazing.

not sure what game you were watching either.... although I will give ya alot of your points in your posts, this team played the whole first half and some into the second real rusty, slow, kinda robotic and kinda lethargic at times. Reminded me of the season a few years back where we went 13-3 for the season and played the Giants in the divisional playoff game. Like we thought we had already won the game, you know?

Now we came away with a win and as long as this team learns from this game that should of been lost, it will help us as we keep going. Have to do it without Dez and Gregory for awhile. Can be done as it was last night.

I felt the same way, but I attributed it to a different reason. Romo threw 9(?) passes in the preseason, Dez didn't play a single snap in preseason, the OL never played a game together in the preseason, Randle had 7 (?) carries and McFadden had 6 (?). In short, they were out of sync because they didn't play together really at all before last night. Not sure that next year the coaches will want to limit guys quite as much to avoid injuries. They may need to get a little more quality work against an opponent in the preseason so that the first game isn't their first time all getting out there and trying to get on the same page.

X, the Giants seem to have acquired a number of high round drafted offensive linemen as well. They might just be why Crawford got the only for real sack last night. That, and only having 7 active linemen could be why there wasn't a little more pressure. But Eli Manning got hit solidly quite a bit.

Teams will shift to stopping the run and putting a safety over top, and this upcoming game against the Eagles should prove to be very interesting.

We need to see very strong games from Williams, Smith, and Cole Beasley, our newest 'smurf.' Cole hustles a ton and is very hard to defense.

Cole, the tight ends, fullback, and running backs could have a heavy load in Philadelphia.

The Eagles are highly favored...yet I am like you. I think a healthy Tony Romo can maintain a smooth offense and put some real scores on the board this game. This, despite a very good defense as an opponent.

With Murray, the gap control will be crucial by what was demonstrated late...and the Eagles were watching.

Thanks, X, for another in a long line of quality reads!

On #8.....................this is just an example of what can happen when you get pass happy. Turnovers and mistakes. I would rather hand the ball off and bowl them into submission.

Except last year we always held our breaths to see if Murray would fumble.

The Witten INT was 100% on Romo. That's not to bash Romo. **** happens sometimes. Except that pass, Romo was on fire. It's much easier to be on fire when you can stand in the pocket for five seconds.

Well Ayers beat Leary on that play...just a good strong rush inside, which forced Romo to let it fly a bit early...but pressure has a way of doing that.

Ok, I re-read that and that was unfair what I said...sorry, the heat of the moment. I know Romo has the most 4th Quarter and OT comebacks in franchise history, and the most in the NFL since 2006. I know he has 4 pro bowls.

I was mainly trying to say he came through when it mattered and Im genuinely happy he did, I just worded it completely wrong and made it sound worse than what it was. My bad....

Dez should have caught that ball for a first down, but he probably scores if Romo hits him in stride.

X, thanks for the observations. Gregory really was flashing last night. He is going to be a special player. Regarding the turnovers, #9 threw a bad pass to Witten that got picked but if you see the All 22 there was a CB out there and Romo was trying to make Witten sit down instead of leading him into the CB. Also, the Beasley turnover is totally a coaching moment! I wouldn't even begin with the two hands on the ball coaching moment, I would begin with ensuring all players are aware of "time and score." Situational football is important. Beasley should have gone out of bounds realizing that the clock was not in Dallas' favor. No reason for him to attempt to get those extra yards and burn more clock.

Other than that, I love the OP. Thanks again.

I'm curious if you would have been this optimistic if Coughlin and Eli decided to run on that crucial 3rd and goal. Regardless if they score or not, we lost another 40 seconds off the clock. Game over.

I keep hearing that argument, largely because turkey-neck "exposed their stupidity".

But with less time, you run different plays, and spike the clock. Dunbar easily could have run OB on the first pass and saved most of the time right there.
Tony never needed to spike, used the clock perfectly so that there wouldn't be any time left, and kept the D on their heels.

I wouldn't bet against him if there were 45 seconds left.

Good right up. I didn't notice the defenders get their hands on the two slants to Williams, but maybe you are right. I hold my opinion though - on two slants and the toss up to the endzone - he has position. He needs to be stronger and box the DB out and go get the ball. When you have position I expect an NFL WR to win. He got bailed out on the pass interference, but he is WAY too athletic to not out jump for that ball.

I love Williams, and especially now, I expect more from him. Because I believe in him I'm happy expecting additional.

I've been one of the ones wondering why Lance Dunbar has kept his spot on the team. Catching 1.5 screen passes per game is not enough to warrant staying on an active roster as a RB. He showed why last night. It makes me wonder who is not active for Christine Michael when the time comes? I don't think you deactivate Dunbar for him.

Im guessing Randle.

I am happy but that win was a miracle, never to be replicated.

Eli left over a minute on the clock, they tried not score on 2nd down, etc etc.....

This win was the football gods giving one back to Romo from all the times he beat the Giants in the 4th quarter and then the Dallas defense let Eli drive down the field and score to steal it from Romo.

On another note, had the roles been reversed and it was Romo who left the time on the clock... the resulting chaos would have made deflate gate look like an offsides penalty. Romo would be getting roasted over the national campfire for all to see.

So were all of the Patriots Super Bowls, and leading up to them. Take what you can get and move on. I'll begin judging after week 6, not after the first game. Patience grasshopper!
