Initial Game Review

Well okay guys. I stand corrected. Now go ahead and tell Jason Witten how to do his job.

To be clear, you're in favor of a player batting an out-of-reach ball up in the air in traffic. This is only when he's a hall-of-famer-to-be, or can just any player do it and get away with it?

Since you need clarirty;

I am in favor of letting Jason Witten try to make plays. I would guess he comes out better more often then not. He is beyond coaching now. He is a coach on the field himself. A leader, greater in many ways, then Romo or even the coaches.

having said that. were fans, this is what we do. Pretend and act like we know better :):) I do it too.

unless of course you guys are paid to scout, coach, play etc etc?? I have no idea. I am assuming your regular Joes.

Witten would be the first to tell you he's not 'beyond coaching.' And you don't need to be a scout or a coach to know that batting a ball you can't get to up in the air when you're in traffic is bad policy. That's something I got yelled at for in Pop Warner.

of course he is going to say that; Its like people saying, "Everday is an opportunity to improve, no matter how old you are!"....

Its the right thing to say, the right frame of mind to have.

But he knows it, and everybody else does to. JW doesnt need coaching. lol......

maybe a reminder not to do things. Ill give ya guys that. But even then. I think the best thing you do with guys liek Romo and Witten at this point in their careers. Is just let them go. Its their team. Go win......

Fair enough. Really, we're not talking to Witten anyway. I'm sure his coaches said the same thing, and he said 'yep.' What we're doing here is just criticizing his execution on that one play. And I'm already talking about it more than I care to, because I agree with you that he's the consummate professional and he did so much right on Sunday it's stupid to belabor a tipped ball. But I still think he has to bat that down, and not up if he cant' get to it.

I am sincerely not attacking or mocking you, this is an honest question--Did you play football? Not batting a ball up into the air is one of the very first things that is hammered home to you starting in pee-wee. Jason is like a coach on the field, as you said, so he of all people is going to know better than to do something like that. I'm not even sure he would do it if the coaches told him to.

Yeah, played from pee-wee, to College Ball.

And yes, this is what coaches teach. It's really really ....really painfully obvious, basic ....fundamentals. Something you tell High Schoolers......:) Something a casual fan of football could ascertain.......... I am sure JW is well aware of that fundamental....:)

They teach a lot of things, that people with talent and expereince ignore, in order to try and get a W. An Advantage.

We got the W. What's your point? Did you expect Witten to make a panic move that early in the game? Come on, man.

No I just thought it was funny , that people on internet fanboards, feel the need to slap Witten on the wrist, for the football equivalent of telling a child to look both ways when crossing the street.

I say , go ahead future 1st ballot hall of fame, Mr. Dallas Cowboys , all time legend in the history of the NFL

Haha I am with you, if the game is on the line late, particularly with Jason. Just not at that point in the game.

And for the record, I wouldn't admonish him either, just saying he shouldn't and wouldn't do it.

Escobar and the TBs in the passing game are going to have to be a big key in this Eagles game. For all the talk about the Eagles front seven, and they are good....... at stopping the run........... their LBs, specifically Ryans and the two OLBs struggle in coverage. Barwin was beat for a TD late in that game but Ryan underthrew the pass. Graham struggles in coverage as well. And when Ryans was on the field, the Falcons tried to attack him over the middle. He's just too slow now after all his injuries.

Barwin was beat like a dead horse several times. It wasn't as bad as trying to watch Kroy Bierman cover Sproles though.... ugh

I think Byron Jones gets Sproles duty against the Eagles.

My wife watches Tardy for the Party. I can't take Bierman seriously on the field after seeing a few snippets of that show. LOL.

We won, but way too much was wrong.

They were sloppy and out of practice.

Romo saved the day.

Really? I would not say that they were sloppy you could tell that he OL was not in sync yet, because they had not played together as a complete line all preseason, but they still played good

It was good to see Tony step up and bring what we all know he has the potential to do when it really mattered, instead of returning to the Romo of a couple of seasons ago whereupon he would have crumbled.

Gutted for Dez, yeah the injury in preseason was his own stupidity - but we will miss him. On saying that, it was nice to see a lot of other players stepping up (Escobar, Im looking at you)

O-line did what the O-Line does, can't argue, best in the league.

The fight and willingness to win was what was crucial for me, and the win (and the manner of the win) will give the boys some much needed confidence going into Philly.

I really do not understand what people have been seeing, when it comes t Romo, I got on the sports radio guy here in town when he made a comment similar to yours about Romo. Romo has been playing the same way, through out the years

The concept that fans can't question players or coaches is the dumbest concept in history.

The general public votes on Presidents but the majority would not be qualified to do the job themselves.

Players and coaches have weaknesses. For most "fan" opinions, I could find an expert that would agree with that opinion. The ex players and coaches in the media disapprove of actions by great players and coaches every week.

What Tony Romo have you been watching?

It's certainly not the guy with the highest 4th quarter qb rating of all time. Or the guy with the most 4th quarter comeback wins since 2006.

It's garbage posts like this that perpetuate a narrative that shouldn't exist.

Hey X, are you going to do a review of the offensive line? I thought their pass blocking was clearly exceptional, other wordly really, but I wasn't all too impressed with the run blocking (I won't get into another Randle debate FYI). Just wondered if you had a chance, or were planning on reviewing them as a unit? I would, but my reviews don't garner as much respect as yours.

You realize he didn't injure it dunking, right? That was misreported and corrected by several sources.

I'm glad this was pointed out. @xwalker has harped on this all offseason while never letting the facts get in the way of a good Dez insult.

This is my initial reaction. I’ll review the game in more detail later on the All-22, but for now here are my thoughts:

1. I see the comments here at CZ and I think some people were watching a different game that the one I was watching.

2. Collinsworth (Turkey Neck) did his best to make an exciting game into a boring one. He was constantly harping on things that were a side note and missing the big picture.

3. The biggest disappointment for me was Dez. He was dehydrated before the half. Garrett pulled him on 1 play because he was trying to get into a fight and he just couldn’t shut up. All of this after missing most of the preseason on an injury that occurred because he was showboating (dunking over the crossbar in practice). The injury was the final insult.

4 The RBs contributed over 200 yards. Randle had a 4.1 ypc which is better than some of Murray’s games last year.

5. They had 356 yards passing for 2nd in the league and Dez only had 48 of those yards.

6. If the RBs had over 200 yards of total offense and the Cowboys were 2nd in passing with Dez making a minimal contribution, then I’m not sure how people can claim that either the RBs or the WRs totally sucked.

7. I actually thought the Cowboys were fairly clean and crisp for the most part. The turnovers and the penalty by Mincey were the only things that could be called sloppy, IMO.

8. Turnovers. The Street turnover was a perfect play by the defender. The Witten turnover was a really lucky play to have landed perfectly in the hands of the defender.. Beasley should have protected the ball better, especially once he was past the 1st down marker and had defenders on both sides. I don’t know if there are many coaching points on these other than for Beasley to get 2 hands on the ball in that situation.

9. I think T. Williams really only had 1 drop. On the other plays the defender got his hands on the ball to knock it away. The play in the end-zone was tipped at the line.

10 The pass blocking was terrific. The run blocking was physically good by most of the individual blockers but it was a little out of sync overall. One run was killed by a missed block by Lucky. I’m not certain why he was in that situation in the 1st place. I saw Leary crush some defenders to the point I was having flashbacks to LA.

10. The defense was really good. Without the Cowboys turnovers, the Giants would have struggled to score much of anything.

11. Losing Gregory sucks. He looked really good. Finding a pass rush, especially at the end of games is going to be difficult for the next 3 games with Hardy out. They’re going to wear out Mincey and Lawrence.. It was odd to only have 7 DL active.

13 The LBs looked good. Even Wilber made some critical plays.

14. Jones is apparently the TE coverage specialist which is a good idea considering how pass catching TEs have emerged in the modern NFL.

15. I can’t remember Claiborne giving up much of anything. I didn’t really focus on him, but I just didn’t notice it.

16. Patmon looked like Scandrick.

17. I think the hit on Bechham by Wilcox early had an effect on how Beckham played.

18. Special Teams looked good. So much for all the crying in the preseason. Keith Smith and Corey White were 2 that stood out to me.

19. Dunbar had a huge contribution to the win despite the dozens of posts calling for him to be cut this preseason.

20. To a lesser extent than Dunbar, Escobar also played well despite the hate that he gets from “fans”.

21. Romo is The Man. A few of his passes were slightly off but he came through when it mattered.

Thanks for that.

#17 was my favorite... And I agree.

Thoughts on DMC? Not stats, I mean he seemed to "flash" a few times.
