I totally get that.
You missed my point - We have the resources yet chose to leave $5M unspent last year and are doing the same this year.

When we had/have holes. Torpedo'd last season candidly.

We could have added a quality FS and a stud ST for that cash.....
Look at the off season we had this year.

Adam just gave you a clue that we are gearing up to do the exact same thing again.

What part of that don't you get?

We had the coin to get Law - he';d have come here if we went there.

I know he's a cripple said the mass - Fact is Law had an interception week 1..... Free Davis to play ST ........

Again....who? Where was that stud FS? Smith is the only one I saw that got away.

Are you that worried about ST? An inexperienced guy made a couple of mistakes this week. I expect it'll be fixed this week.

That $5 million unspent last year? Yep, it helped in signing a Ferguson or a Rivera or a Henry this year. I'd say it was well spent.

He said he didn't want to play FS. His agents are the Postons. He has character and injury issues. He was on a defense that got LIT UP in week 1.

Its time to let the Ty Law dream go....its dead.

WHAT PART DON'T YOU GET? WE LEFT $5M ON THE PLATE LAST 2 YEARS!

Maybe we spend that next year. We blew up last year being cheap.....

Henson in 2008! What happened to BNA! lol

So, provide us a list of players that the team could have signed that would have helped in the last 2 years. Ty Law doesn't count.

I see the good the team did in 2005 using this strategy.

I approve of how they are operating. If they can do this 2 years in a row it would be amazing.

I forget you don't care about that.

You are right - we'd be over the top with a Haller in center field. Safety is a precarious position for us today . One injury and? our season is near over......

$5M saved - woooohooooo

Just thought I'd add my three nickels... Let's not forget we got some in-house extensions coming up. Roy Williams anyone? He may be signed for eternity, but you can't tell me he hasn't met the necessary incentives to shorten his contract. So take a peak at Donovan Darius' numbers to see what RW future cap hit could be.

Let's say Witten has another big-time year. Maybe not the same numbers as last year, but the value is still there. Take a peak at Todd Heap's numbers to see what the future cap hit could be.

Even Gurode might be worthy of a 2-year extension. Money on the cap.

It's about managing your cap budget. You gotta look at the cap as your own personal budget. Just because you got $500 in the bank doesn't mean you have to spend that $500 all in one day, even tho it may be on need items.

So, its apparently all still about Ty Law, I guess. Signing him provides NO guarantee of a Super Bowl. This team is still even questionable to make the playoffs at this point.

I don't know how many facts you can be presented. Law did not want to play FS. He said he was a corner. BP does not like the Postons. BP likes high character guys. I feel like a broken record. Law was never an option.

Did you like the Ferguson signing? How about Henry? Rivera? What do you think paid for part of those?

Like WG said, how about extending some of the young guns?

I guess if you want to sign a bunch of washed up scrubs like Eaton and George, feel free. Its not going to help your team and kill your cap.

I love the way the cap is being managed.

Its easy to say we can find studs and sign them- FIRST find one, then get a decent deal. I think that JJ was looking at maybe signing WItten last year, but he was having such a great season they decided to wait and let things cool down. Plus that was the first time he really had broken out. Now maybe NOW would be the time to sign WItten to a long term deal- before he has a great game THIS year. That is really what you save the money for during the season- to lengthen contracts. I would love to tie up Roy and Witten for about 5 more years now. But another problem is that damn CBA that is due to end= and they have not reached a deal on it yet. THAT is maybe the single biggest reason we have not lengthened any contracts lately.

This just in: Henry had an interception in week 1 too. And he played 10x the game Law did. In fact, Henry's performance was the best game by a CB in a Cowboys uniform in ages. 12 tackled, 5 pass break ups, 1 pick....

One injury to Safety and this season is OVER.

Parcells is freaked and he mentions "contingency" plans at 2 positions. Asked where he said look at my roster - isn't it obvious?

Pointing out problems without a solution doesn't accomplish anything. There isn't a dial a FS hotline. We are gambling sure enough but as our pass rush improves the FS position will be less of an issue. I can also see some packages were Henry mans the FS position while Glenn and Newman man the corners. You are worrying about what might be and it hasn't even happened yet.

There were options - just like we shored up RG, CB, NT, WR in FA

I wish we had shored up Safety.

Sorry.

Well, its one thing to say you wish safety had been addressed. I think most of us would have preferred an upgrade at FS. I was pushing for Dwight Smith pretty hard. The whole idiocy with the BB gun made me rethink it a bit, but no doubt he was a young talented FS who had experience playing corner. Coming out of his rookie deal. Perfect.

Other than that, its just been a bunch of guys available at FS (except maybe Shaper who the team didn't really even get a shot at).

Its one thing to say you wanted an upgrade. Its quite another to bash the team's management of the salary cap in an attempt to not so subtlely cheerlead for the guy you have been wanting for years. Law was never an option for Dallas. Time for you to move on and....gulp...admit you were way off on that one.

As far as depth there, sure if Roy or Davis goes down, the team is thin. We haven't seen Pile yet though. No idea what the team has there. With the depth at corner, it wouldn't be hard to use Glenn or Henry in a FS type role. Reeves or Jones could probably fill in. The street guys that are out there now will still be out there. No use burning salary cap space on them when they aren't even going to be active. Who do you cut to bring them in?

Its the salary cap era. You can't go three deep at every position. What happens to the Colts if Manning goes down? Think they feel good about Jim Sorgi leading them on? And they are a legit Super Bowl contender. I am not ready to put Dallas there yet.
