Still? All? I never did that in the first place. But even if I did it would be no more proposterous than people who suggest that if we just change coaches it's magically take us to the promised land because we have "all" this talent.

My contention is simple. It doesnt matter all that much what scheme you use if you're shy on players. We're still shy on a few players.

No different than when Jimmy got here. Finally get a winning record in '91 by getting more and more players over time, win a playoff game... then get hammered in the 2nd cause once again still not quite having enough players showed itself.

The run of the mill 4-3 was fine. Switching schemes wouldnt have helped. Getting Haley and Kevin Smith helped.

Swapping out a couple players in our front 7 right now would help too. Course that would be true whether BP is around or not. Which is why I dont care whether he's around or not. If I were to truly advocate that he go, that wouldnt be the specific reason why anyway.

You left out Thomas Everret as the steady veteran safety and Darren Woodson as a rookie nickel package guy. Dallas recognized where the weak spots were in 1991 and went out and got better players. From 2003 to 2004, Dallas replaced the weak links on defense with weaker links(Wiley for Ekuban, several guys for Mario Edwards, Carson for Blade). Hopefully, they get better talent to replace the current weak links and also some of the young guys step up their play. That also happened in 1992. Larry Brown stepped up his game in his second season as one example.

After we got Deion, nobody threw to his side, but Larry Brown played great on the other side. I love that about him. Of course, having a stout pass rush didn't hurt either.

Obviously, Merriman couldn't do his usual "lights out" thing.

Matt Light completely owned him apparently.

When Merriman's doing good: "who cares", when he's not: "ware>>>merriman"

funny, its everytime he gets a sack (even if unblocked) thats when we see huge numbers of threads about this ridiculous debate

He's better than Ware.
Keep telling yourselves Ware is better if it makes you feel good.
Because if Merriman was just an average player, there would not be threads about him here.

your opinion...not mine

Merriman is a one dimensional player, and today even that one dimension didnt show up

When he cant get sacks he disappears completely. His roids are wearing off.

He is still a playmaker on that team after he was caught and is the emotional leader of that team. No reason to hate on Merroidman, wish we had an emotional leader.

He did do his "Lights Out" dance once today. First quarter after pressuring Brady into an incompletion... what a player!!!

I believe there are plenty of vets on that team that the younger players look up to then just Merriman.

I saw him get run over by the right guard on the play that McCree made the tackle for loss....
Was that the one where he got put on his back? Pancaked. I saw that.

I'm not talking about looking up to.

I'm talking about fire, someone that fires or sparks a team.

That was what RW did (Prime example was against the Colts).

Until something happened... like a shoulder injury or something (he started wearing that black brace).

Your still citing pre-Salary Cap examples which are pretty impossible to achieve in today's NFL. You simply can't just load up with so much talent that you can blow the other team off the field with sheer ability of your players.

The Patriots and Saints don't have better players than most of their opponents... but their scheme and how well they execute it is what enables them to have success. Today's NFL is ENTIRELY dependent upon scheme and execution... if you have the right scheme to suit the quality players that you have, and those players execute it very well, then that's the team that has success.

It might be entirely true that we need to replace a couple of players in our front 7, but, as of yet, we have not used a scheme that will enable them to be successful.

Do you believe that playing Roy Williams in a Cover 2 scheme that puts him in deep coverage responsibilities almost every single play enables him to be as successful and the best player that he can be?
Do you believe that a scheme that ends up having Demarcus Ware in coverage more than rushing the passer enables him to be the best player that he can be?

That's my point. I've seen so many football teams that use a scheme that maximizes their player's potential and the player's execute that scheme well enough to where they can beat another team with a great deal more talent.
