Interest in Bryce Petty

Was listening to Sirius NFL radio on ride home. Gil Brandt interviewed Baylor QB Bryce Petty. Today was his pro day and Wade Wilson, Cowboys QB coach, was there. Petty said he loved meeting and talking with Wilson. And that he has a visit to Cowboys headquarters scheduled already (and one other team I cannot remember). Sounds like we may finally be interested in drafting Romo's successor. Maybe our 4th round pick?

So were keeping 4 qbs? Romo, Weeden, Vaughn, and this guy?

Ol Gil Brandt was seriously selling Petty to the Saints in the 2nd round. Thought that was awful high but the man thinks he is a good guy for Drew Brees to groom for a couple years.. Like Petty maybe in the 4th or 5th rnd

The Jets have also worked out Petty

Pat Kirwan said today that he was hearing word that Petty could slip into the 1st. I would be shocked, but he could be another Ponder from a couple o years back.

I'm betting Petty's off the board somewhere in the 3rd round. Hopefully, not in Dallas until the 4th, at the earliest.

I hope JJ stays course and goes BPA leaving out qb as an option. Not sold on Petty coming from a heavy spread offense

I doubt we are keeping 4 QBs on the 53-man roster. I also doubt we are only bringing 3 QBs to camp. Vaughn is no lock to make the team. Nor is Weeden a lock to make the team. Vaughn could end up on the practice squad. Some QB could get hurt during camp. Many possibilities.

Bottom line: just draft good players regardless of position.

I'd rather have the problem of drafting a good player and finding room on the roster for him by cutting some other player. Rather than the problem of drafting a player for need who isn't good and cutting someone else instead just because the drafted not-very-good player fills a need.

It wouldn't surprise me. I don't think he is worthy of a 1st or 2nd, but over the last several years there have been plenty of QBs who have been drafted way before they should. Jake Locker and Blaine Gabbert also went in that 2011 draft along with Ponder. None of them should have been drafted that high. Overdrafting QBs has become the norm especially since teams are no longer saddled with the large contracts that guys like Sam Bradford used to get.

The whole draft QB and draft RB thing is giving me grey hairs. The rankings and draft projections for both seem all over the road. I'm lost and don't know what to think any more. Do we need to draft a RB? Sure. Do we need to draft a QB? Probably it depends on Vaughn.

I'm curious to see how this plays yet. Honestly if he fell in the second I can see us scooping him up but if he leaps into the first I can see a team trading w us to get him

Well Cowboys backup; to Romo has to have some regular season game experience. That I know. And as of now, only Weeden fits that bill. Unless they bring in another vet to camp. And Garrett loves Weeden. So he's said.
