Was listening to ESPN on the Radio. They asked Herm Edwards who might be a consideration for MVP, besides the standard Payton Manning and I was shocked (in a good way) about his answer.

He said Payton was obviously the front runner put on his short list were:

Russell Wilson
Cam Newton
Tom Brady

and..........

Wait for it..........

Tony Romo. He actually said it twice. He said "Hold on, hold on, Tony Romo is playing some good ball down there now.

I was floored to hear that but I have to admit that it made me smile a little bit.

It is the team's most VALUABLE player. The Broncos went 11-5 and won a playoff game with Tim Tebow playing QB. Patriots went 10-6 with Matt Cassell.

Take Tony Romo off this team and we're already talking about the draft.

Don't get me wrong those guys are all great, but very few people realize exactly how important Romo is to this team.

How about Rodgers - same with him. His injury has proven the difference he makes to his team.

No doubt.
It does show his value, but you have to play in almost all the games in the season that you win an MVP. He will not have done that.

Kinda hurts himself by throwing Cam in there. Cam has had some good games but the Panthers are Defense first.

MVP will be Peyton Manning without a doubt, he won it in week 1. :D

As for Romo being an MVP candidate in the same discussion as Brady, Wilson, and Newton , I don't see how anyone could disagree. MVP stands for the most valuable player to their team, which team benefits more from a particular player. And Romo is more valuable to his team then those other guys.

Brady's team was still 6-2 through their first 8 games, and that's even with Brady and their passing offense stinking up the joint.

Wilson is good, but he's really not MVP valuable to his team. That's why they still can win games when he completes only like 10 passes, it's because he has the best supporting cast in the league and his play doesn't effect the outcome of a W/L as much.

Same goes for Newton as it does for Wilson. You'd never see Romo throwing 3 interceptions against SF in their house and winning 10-9. Newton has a great supporting cast and he's not the most important cog to their success, it's their defense. He's a good young QB, but certainly not MVP valuable to his team.

Romo is easily more valuable to his team then those other guys, especially Wilson and Newton. Those guys have the best supporting cast in the NFL and their play doesn't really effect the outcome of a game as much.

Those guys don't even have to play good to win, as for Romo he can play lights out and still lose. I'm not saying he's the MVP, but if you're going to include Wilson, Newton, and Brady then you have to include Romo as well.

Romo is in comparison to Rodgers on how valuable he his to his team, Wilson and Newton not so much.

Yeah, thing is though, it's really more about Most Outstanding Player as opposed to Most Valuable.

Noticed you posted "Payton" Manning twice. Payton is the coach of the Saints. Peyton is the QB of the Broncos. Not sure if this was accidental or you just thought it was spelled that way. ( or a different reason )
That said. unless Tony goes on a 4 game tear & throws like 5 TDs per game & zero INTs, I don't see him getting a sniff at MVP honors.

Manning will be the clear winner so anyone else mentioned is just fluff anyway.

Kind of surprising Romo is finally getting love this season when in my eyes its not been his best one.

Take Romo off this team and we might be talking about the number 1 overall pick. ;)

Romo is playing well right now but I can't see a guy on a 7-5 team winning the MVP. It's kinda like the Heisman. It goes to the best player on the best team, not necessarily the most valuable player. Peyton Manning will likely win it but it wouldn't surprise me to see Russell Wilson sneak in and snatch it from him. That guy is playing some solid football right now.

Romo's best shot at a MVP was in 2007. Of course that was the year of the Patriots, so there was no chance at that. But Romo was absolutely on fire that year.
