just said on ESPN radio that sure...rumor has had Jerry leaning to norv but something seems to have kept him from just pulling the trigger if thats the case.

I've thought the same thing and if Norv was clearly the guy he could have already been hired...and Dallas could have STILL went after Rivera for DC.

also said word was Rivera was confident in his chances to win the head coaching job...coming in today for interview..etc

the only reason he hasn't pulled the trigger is that there are people - fans and former players saying it is not a good decision.

it is what he wants to do and will do though.

I think he knows that if He hires Norv he better have a "name" DC or many of the fans would be highly upset.

Now I don't know if the fans being upset would bother Jerry too much but still I think he knows they need someone as a "name" DC if possible because Norv and Jason will be concentrating on the Offense.

I also think he believes that although they need someone to teach Tony, he also realizes that we need work on the D side of the ball and if the D would have played good down the stretch we probably would have won more games and advanced further in the playoffs.

Of course that is purely speculation on my part.

If Norv ends up being the coach, I just want a DC who can coach the 3-4. I'd rather have Bowles over Rivera

It might be as simple as Norv saying that he wants Rivera as his DC if he's going to come to Dallas. If the decision is Norv, then that would be enough reason for Jerry to delay any announcement. He would have to get Rivera signed before he could sign Norv.

I think the nfl front office asked Jerry to wait until after the Super Bowl, so Jerry decided he would use that time to talk to Rivera who Norv wanted as his DC.

I think I will just sit back and wait until an announcement is made. I will let the beer kill my brain cells in the mean time instead of thinking about this situation.

If he hires Norv as our HC, I worry about our future drafts...

To say Jerry has "learned" from the puppet head coach days is a bit of a misnomer. He "learned" that his team is much more well thought off by the consumers of his product when there isn't the perception of a "puppet head coach" there, and that would be the perception of Norv by most.

So he's just selling it and spinning it for a good PR angle. He can now go to Cowboy fans and say "Look, I left no stone unturned. I talked to every guy available, and the offensive coordinator of the #26 scoring offense in the NFL is the best man for the job. I'm also bringing in coordinators that I liked so much I even considered them for HC jobs".

Thus Norv, along with his "glory days" ties, becomes more palatable ... at least in Dallas, who never miss out on an early 90's circle jerk of nostalgia ... even though he is the most mediocrest and retreadiest of mediocre retreads.

I can not speak for anybody other then myself but I can tell you that Norv Turner is always going to be at or near the bottom of my list for HCs in Dallas regardless of who does what.

Jeff Ireland is in charge of the draft, the most influence Norv will have is telling Jeff what position and types of players he needs to fill holes on the team. Nobody will be expecting Norv to scout players. That just has never been a part of his job description.

I don't know, that's a lot of genuflection just for the fans. I don't know that I believe that theory right now.

I think there is something else causing Jerry to delay this announcement, maybe it's Rivera, but sometimes I can't help but wonder if there isn't a college guy he's thinking about and needs to wait until after NSD on Wednesday. Longshot I know but this has been a strange process.

At the very least, find out what it would take for Pittsburgh to let Cowher out of his contract.

I don't know why you would be. We got Gil Brandt back in the fold for us now.

Further speculation: Jones intends to hire Turner if he is confident that Turner can make good decisions as a head coach, and the first item is Turner's choice for defensive coordinator. Jones wants to see for himself how good a coordinator Rivera might be. Just testing Turner . . . . and putting Jones' stamp on it.

Offense sells tickets. Jones will soon have 50% more seats to fill at probably 50% more dollars. Jones will be focusing on offense.

JMO

Next question, please, let's move right along here, we have things to do.

That's the key. If Jerry Jones has learned to trust Jeff Ireland with the draft and not interfere with it, Norv Turner will not be problem there. :)

If you are not confident that you will get the job before an interview, then you will never get the job.
