Interesting quote from Jerry on Talkin cowboys

I doubt that Crayton would cost the Cowboys that much...

My hunch would be Kyle Kosier, and the rookie he's referring to is Justin Blalock (who the Boys are supposedly quite high on)...

I can only hope we don't draft Blaylock. He's WAY overrated. I wouldn't be upset at all if we took Grubbs though.

But if it is Julius, then the rookie would likely be Adrian Peterson, and he'll cost that much his own self...

Unless the Boys are indeed interested in taking a chance on Michael Bush in the 3rd or 4th round range... but would Bush be ready to shoulder a big load this year??

Bush isn't comparable to JuJo. Not in talent and especially not in style.

IMO he may be talking about Lynch (more likely, and closer to JuJo's running style then Bush).

Hey everyone...

I don't think this has been posted on this forum yet...

During his time on talkin cowboys today, Jerry mentioned that there was a guy that they were looking at today, that if he came in, could play at a comprable level, and is a comprable player to one we already have on our roster.

He also said that the current player on our roster could cost us up to 20 million over the next 5 years, whereas the rookie could come in for less money, and still comprable talent and play.

Any speculations on who this current player on our roster could be, that would cost up to $20 mil over 5 years? or speculations on who the player they looked at today could have been?

If it was Jerra, he might mean Bradie James.

that was my thought. they just signed him to a 1 year deal for how much? he's not an immediate need to sign AGAIN right now and it sure won't be for $4mil a year.

i'll say jujo cause that's just been the rumor for a while and seems to still be running.

JuJo gets my vote too. As for the replacement maybe a guy like Kenny Irons or Antonio Pittman.

With the salary cap going up, I wouldn't doubt it. Right now the average starter on a team should make around $3.5-4.0 million per year. In 4-5 years that could go up significantly. $20 million over the next 5 years should be a little below the average starter's salary. As a #2 WR that's not bad, but if we're talking about a 3rd WR, that's a little high. I think Crayton can earn #2 WR money.

I listened to the interview much earlier today, but I thought Jerry was just talking theoreticals.

However, I am still all for going after Adrian Peterson ;)

At this point, neither JuJo or Crayton are worth $20/5.

My bet: Bradie James, who happened to sign a 5 year, $20 million contract last year.

He had one good year, we paid too much, now there is talk of him being a 2 down LB. We draft a LB, Carp moves inside. Bye Bye Bradie.

...and hello Patrick Willis. :)

Actually, though their styles are quite dissimilar, I see them as similar talents...

But where Lynch is likely to be drafted, he wouldn't represent all that great a cap savings, would he??

You and I REALLY disagree on that one... to me, Blalock is one of the 2 or 3 best offensive linemen available in this draft, and a likely 10 year starter in the NFL...

That makes some sense, but who then is the comparable rookie that Jerry said could replace him??

Willis?? I don't really see him as comparable, if only because he's so much faster... and where he's liable to be drafted, his contract's gonna be right pricey, too...

Perhaps Jerry is referring to Anthony Waters, who the Boys have apparently interviewed, or even Zak DeOssie??

Yeah, that would seem to fit what he said... whaddaya think??

BTW, I'm not real keen on the thought of moving Carpenter inside... I think you keep Bradie around this year, then look to move on next offseason...

Jamel Richardson, and he came from the CFL, not the Arena League...
thanks silverbear, i just couldnt remember the name, and what team he played for, but do remember he surprised the cowboys; so they signed him before the colts did

yeah me too would love to see zak deossie, he can also snap on field goals, etc, as well as play on special teams, then on top of that he is 6-4 1/2 250 with 4.58 in 40, he should go somewhere around 3rd to 4th round. Anthony Waters im kinda scared of coming off of that knee injury & i read he is real good at run support, but his pass coverage is poor, whereas he reminds teams of bradie james, he is good in run support but poor in pass coverage.

I am 100% sure it was Marc Colombo

It cant be kosier or james or anyone else like that.they have already been signed to long term deals and it would eat too much cap money if one of them was cut. it could only be a player on the verge of FA,like JJ.forget TNEW and CRAYTON.

now this is one that i hadn't thought of...very interesting...

i guess the question is..what kind of contract would we give to Columbo if he shows up again, or what is normal for a good RT...

i would assume it is not the same kind of numbers as a LT, but i could be wrong.
