Ok what if Flozell has a deserving Pro Bowl year? I know most of us are assuming we won't re-sign Flozell because of Free and Marten being drafted. Mickey on Talkin' Cowboys was saying how hard it is to find left tackles in this league and how offensive linemen hit their prime in their early to mid-30's. Assuming Flozell has a great year and looks fully recovered from the ACL injury, what kind of contract would you give Flo? I'de give him a 3 year deal, 20 million dollar deal with a 15 million dollar signing bonus. What about you guys?

i don't think Kosier is a Cowboy in 2008 which would allow a McQuistan or maybe even a Proctor or Marten to move into guard so there isn't so much cap invested into the OL. And what if Colombo has another good year? Signing him would be a priority as well!

Methinks the plan is to develop Free and Marten to be our OT's for the future.

Hopefully, one will plan out.

It would be even better if both panned out.

I've always thought that Flo might stick after this year contrary to popular opinion. Any extension he might get, would be around 4 years to spread out his signing bonus.

And truthfully, if neither of the current candidates are ready to take over by the end of the season (which I doubt), and if no deal is worked out, I could see them slapping the franchise tag on him.

If Flo has a good year which he should have then he'll probably get more than that. He's a good LT and the Cowboys should do well which increases his stock.

I could see that happening as well.

We are putting a great deal on Marten, McQuistan, Free and Columbo to pan out.

Columbo we have a good idea about unless he gets hurt again or winds up testing FA.

The other three guys are young and somewhat unknown on the field. I hope all three pan out (McQ, Free and Marten) but that is a tall order with the odds we have had with O-Linemen the last few years.

I am hoping Free is ready to go after one year.

Might be a bit wishful, but it would save us cap room. Which we may need depending on how high we pick next year. Also factoring in Romo will need an extension as well as Newman.

As usual, excellent point WG. I think tagging him might make more sense in this situation. Doesn't have to be Franchise either. Could be Transition as well. We have the cap so tagging him might end up being the best way to go.

Flo will be well into his 33rd year of life and 11th season in Sept. of 2008. Not sure how much i'd bank on him being a very good or even a good player for more that a couple years after 07. If he's reasonable in his demands and another team doesn't over pay(cough Commanders) he might stick around. But IMO it is more about, is anyone ready to step in, than Flo's age. If one of the kids are ready Flo will be gone.

Colombo I'm ok with. But most seem to think that give a guy 1 year of seasoning and he should be ready to go. With o-lineman, I'm willing to bet it takes at least 2-3.

I know folks seem to worry about the cap since the '90s, but the way they've managed the cap and structured certain deals in the past 5 years, that is the least of my concern. Especially since the cap will continue to go up.

I doubt Newman will be getting some ridiculous number like 80m, but I think his overall contract will be comparable to others.

As for Romo, I would look at the next deal Marc Bulger gets as a starting point. He's an UFA after this year if he's not extended or they don't slap the tag on him.

it depends on alot of things, how Flo does in '07, how is future outlook is, how our young OTs develop, how the market looks for OTs, how the '07 season ends up

if Flo ends up being the best LT we can hope to have for a year, or 2, we might re-sign him, and should

If Flo doesn't get resigned, he gets franchised. You dont let an established tackle walk because Parcells sang some praises about McQuistan...hell with BP that coulda been motivation for Adams.

I'm not sure Adams is nessecarily a top 5 tackle (which the tag would imply), but he sure as hell isn't far off. LT is a position you really can't skimp on...it's the only OL position that gets drafted in the top 10. Gallery at #2, Pace at #1. D'Brickshaw last year. You can't just let the guy walk that easily. And honestly, I don't think there is anyone on our roster right now who is nearly as good as Adams at LT.

You want to give him a $6.67 million per year deal in which 75% of it is guaranteed?

I'm not sure any lineman is worth that.

I'd give him about 4 years, $20 million with about $8 or so million guaranteed.

Why not? He played well last year - It would be a major upset for anyone to take his job this year.

That seems low. Lower than what we gave Davis to play Guard if im not mistaken.. If we are going to Adams after this season, itll be a pretty hefty contract, IMO.

You have to take into account the structure of Davis' deal. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but just guessing it's about the same for the first 4 years.

I'm just giving a ballpark of what I think it would be. It might be closer to 25 with 10 guaranteed.

Adams will be 33 at the start of next season.

Davis is 28.

33 year old left tackles don't usually get premium contracts.

If Adams does well this year and we can get him to sign a 3 year deal at market value -- that is market value for a 33 year old -- then we'd be nuts to let him go.

that's an unrealistic expectation
