Preach it brotha!!!

Who else in the late 2nd is better than Bushrod?

Im really interested what Baltimore does with Gaither. If they slap a 2nd round tender on him we better swoop!!

boy I mean that

Bushrod is a backup LT. That position is filled on this team. You don't throw away first and second round picks on backups. I'd like to see what Free can do at LT WHEN his time comes.

I'd like to see who we draft in the second and what he does for our team.

Bushrod received a lot of TE help in NO. He will not be able to hold down the fort one-on-one anywhere near the level that Flozell has.

Ya because we don't run 2 TE sets..

Ohhh...wait...

And how exactly does that dispute anything I stated?

Oh gee, I don't know.

I agree that Free has shown that he is a much better player already than Bushrod will ever be. I don't think Bushrod will ever be a quality starter in this league so there is no need to give up a second rounder that at least gives us the potential to find a quality OL starter.

I think the most relevant question is whether you'd have a career backup OT for an expensive contract (will have to give him starting OT type money even if he isn't good - remember Jacques Reeves and Chris Canty) or take the chance on finding a good player in the second round.

I'll take the draft roulette.

you can tell how poor of a talent evaluator Jerry must be if he gave Procter a second round tender but will not give up a second round pick for a proven player like Bushrod!

It's not going to get interesting. You draft hoping to find starters. You don't spend those picks on someone who has backup quality talent because it seems safer. Sure you miss on some but you're going to hit some, too. That's built into the system and is part of the game.

What type of quality LT are you going to get with the 27th pick of the 2nd round.....

People don't realize that by then any decent LT will be gone.
Besides, if we are able to draft Iupati in the 1st, and get Bushrod for our 2nd, we just improved our OL.

It's not like we're losing our 1st and 3rd, just our second. A player like Bushrod is worth a 2nd rounder.

Use common sense people, it's the bang for the buck. Besides, Bushrod would have a lot of help here.
Bushrod-Iupati-Gurode-BIGG-Free is a sick OL.

you don't have to get a LT in the 2nd round, you can get a quality RT...free can play LT.

FLozell Adamas was selected in the second round as was Andre Gurode. Free has the agility AND strength to play LT and he was picked in the fourth.

If our one big FA aquisition is going to be Bushrod I am going to vomit.

When does this thought get interesting?

When people realize that if Jammal Brown was not coming back, the Saints would be looking to upgrade that Left Tackle position in the offseason.

Here is a quote from an NFC South Blog from Pat Yasinkas:

Bushrod is not Brown. He has limitations and the Saints know it. If you watch their offense, they’ve done a lot to help Bushrod. They give him blocking help with their tight ends, fullback and running backs and it also helps that Brees has a quick release and doesn’t take many deep drops.

I give major credit to Bushrod for holding down the fort while Brown was out, but he is a quality back-up, not a quality starter. The few times that Bushrod was given consistant one on one assignments in games this season, he got steam-rolled. The fact is that the Saints had to cater their schemes to helping him all season. Why exactly would we strive for that at one of our most important positions on the field?????
