I was listening to NFL radio last night on my way in to work for mids. They brought up something about the Jets failing Suggs on his physical that got me to thinking. They mentioned that MAYBE the Jets failed Suggs because they found someone they thought they could get that wouldnt cost them a player, instead a draft pick or a cut. They were saying that a team, and this was Kirwan taliking, could fail a player for no reason at all on a physical and that from time to time teams get second thoiughts and intentionally fail a player to get out of the deal.

Could we have failed Adams purposely because we thought there was someone who would be released (I know a few people have named a 2 Detroit WR's) or we could get for a player we didnt plan on keeping anyway(see below).

They had also brought up the age old trick of "spotlighting a player" by starting a potential player with the 1st team to get attention to him as trade bait (hint hint Shanle and a few players who were out of place last weekend with the first team). Could someone in need have taken the bait??????????????

I kinda think that may have been the case... failing him because of second thoughts.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. Parcells seems to love making deals with the Jets.

There should not have been a need for 2nd thoughts it the first place. It was just an awful deal and should have been turned down from the start.

Do you really think our front office doesn't do research on a player and establish what sort of price they are going to pay for the player?

The only time people get 2nd thoughts is when they make impulsive decisions -- if you think NFL front offices make those sort of decisions you are fooling yourself.

Those of you who think that giving up a 6th round pick for a legit 3rd or 4th receiver is stupid - you also need a reality check. You guys can get in line behind the people who still think we are going to get Lelie.

Injuries, cuts (Bubble players), and system changes reshape the landscape daily. Its not really that its a second thought issue as much as it is a better opportunity. I'm not saying a team just gets a wild hair and says "hey lets trade a 6 for this guyfor the heck of it" The example they used last night was this....If you are in dire need for a RB, as the Jets are and you make a move for Suggs then find out that you may be able to get a better back OR have interest in someone another team is "spotlighting" you use the failed physical to dump the deal for what may be a better deal.

Think Piloi in town, them needing LB depth and possibly having a WR we may be interested in for one. Another would be runours on which vets teams may be willing to move. I'm sure Bill and Jerry would rather move a player they were going to cut for a player they may want then losing a pick for an equal player

I think you people need to drop the silly obsession with the bustola twins in Detroit...both of them are huge BUSTS...they are not suddenly going to turn into quality players or people simply be relocating here...niether of them has shown jack crap even when they ARE on the field, and one of them adds the thuggie druggie dimension that we dont need

honestly I wont be surprised if Rogers is not even on an NFL team this yr once he's released

And what exactly has happened to change the landscape? Nothing. Nothing at all. Everyone knows who is on the block. It isn't a secret and you can bet our front office has called many teams about guys.

Suggs said the Jets never told him why he failed the physical, jsut that he failed..... hes always injured though

Id give the Jets Tyson Thompson for Cotchery(they probably wouldnt) or Tim Dwight(solid returner)

but theyd probably offer Mcarens(sp?) and hes been a disapointment the last 2 years

I don't understand the obsession either. Because they were high draft picks don't mean they will suddenly become All-Pro just because they are wearing a star.

I don't care what others say, if Detroit lets Mike Williams go we should jump all over it.

Aw hell, that doesn't mean much considering you were all over him in the draft. ;)

I think folks need a check that we are going special teams and nuthin' else.

Very young looking Lloyd Bridges. Great movie BTW.
I was frantically looking for a pic of him in that awful beige tweed jacket from that movie. No luck.

Oh usre Doc, hurt me.

:wink2:

It wasn't meant to be painful. Took me two days to get on that Lions board.

I'm with you on Williams. I'd take him in a heart beat. Just don't think we'll get that chance. Rogers may get busted though.

If he's cut does he have to clear waivers as I assume? Or is this one guy we would have to trade for to get?

I share many people's concern for the drug problem. He's been busted for 4 wks already. I guess next time is a year or is it less? However I think he's much less of a problem than TO. He has talent.

A good offense and QB might just allow this guy to bloom. I'd be all over him unless there is inside info to the contrary.
