Kept cooper until someone gave us proper value. They were so scared they’d be stuck with his salary they gave him away. His salary clearly wouldn’t have impeded a trade. Several receivers signed way bigger deals this off-season.

But you’re right. Jerry and Stephen gave away our hand and teams didn’t feel trading a premium pick for a player who was definitely getting cut. So the Browns fleeced us.

Cooper was wrong. He half-assed it half of the time, disappeared most of the time in big games, dropped passes at times and certainly didn't play with a mean streak. Then he had the audacity to start opening his mouth while pointing fingers at the QB and O-Coordinator?

The problem isn't necessarily moving on from Cooper. I think one can make a decent case as to why it should have happened.

The crime is the two bozos in charge getting two bags of cow turds for him while comparable WRs later got pretty strong returns. Have we ever "won" a trade since Jimmy left?

Look… Dak can be a dawg, and Micah can be an even bigger one. It took Irvin several years in the league to go from leader of a terrible team to leading a championship team. Oh I think couple seasons ago Zeke did come in out of shape. But I think that happens with players sometimes when they get over confidence and forget what made them the player they are
Aside from getting dinged up though I think last season was as good as first season as far as effort
But the miles are getting high and no amount of conditioning can overcome those miles. That’s why I think, and hope it’s his last year here. I think when they designed his contract they felt that time would have caught up with him by next year and I think it’s time to move on from his salary. I hope Jerry learned you don’t use a top half of first round pick on a RB in todays game. The type of player who could justify it can’t stay healthy with the pounding they take. A guy like McCafferty gives you lots of options to get value out of him but the pounding just is too much for their bodies
I think when you are passing as much as you do today, RB by committee is the way to go

Lets look at Tom Brady. You're not gonna beat father time but little things are cumulative in extending your career. The player that consistently works, puts the extra work into recovery, lives a clean healthy lifestyle and never gets out of shape generally gets a bit more time. That isn't Zeke though, he lives hard, plays hard, and from the outside looking it, it appears he's done that all his life.

You obviously need a certain work ethic to make the NFL, and an even greater one to be a star player in the NFL. But I'd put Zeke squarely in the category of guys that have been able to get by on athletic gifts rather than hard work relative to his peers.

Irvin has been a spontaneous guy since before he was a Hurricane. How he answered the Cooper question meant one thing to me but his extended silence before flapping his gums meant way more.

Tom is a freak of nature but he also plays a position with a much longer life span than RB
Zeke has many more miles on him even though he’s much younger
I agree Tom does an amazing job of doing all the right things but Zeke was hit more in college than Tom has in his entire career
QB’s barring neck or back issues can play a long time
A few RB’s have had long careers but almost none have long, productive careers. The pounding they take is gonna take it’s toll

They could not keep cooper past the deadline or his contract was guaranteed and I bet nobody would've traded for him and that contract. Only 1 team was willing to even give a 4th....lol

He’s a talented WR… and FWIW— I didn’t agree with the move to trade him.

That said— this is the second team that has traded him away and lots of whispers about “personality” “competitiveness” “attitude” etc….

So— in the end, they clearly didn’t think he was worth the time or money anymore. It happens.

Normally I’d agree, but the 2 coaches that traded him away are Gruden and McCarthy. I’m not sure I trust those 2 dinosaurs to make that kind of judgement call on a younger player.
Obviously only a few know the real story and Coop def doesn’t seem to be the most enthusiastic, but I also won’t be surprised if Stefanski has 0 problems with Coop.

cooper was cut for the money and Jerry and Stephen then made it personal. he wasn't in the top 25 in Jersey sales any longer and his cost didn't justify the return, so they cut him. that's why Zeke is still on the team, a starter despite the decline, because he is 16 in Jersey sales, so return justifies the investment. Its always about the money and investment with the Jones boys.

perfectly fair comment and no disagreement there. However, the environment must be considered. The best comparable i could think of immediatly would be to an outside sales group - a soft spoken, introvert might be the smartest person on the team but in that specific environment that skill set is minimized because the business needs more of an agressive approach.

Based on what I know of the NFL it sounds like its a similar situation where introverts, though they might be very talented and incredibly smart, if they cant dial up the energy and enthusiasm might have challenges...sounds like something similar happened with Amari and that his easy going approach got him traded.

Perception is reality for most people.
