Is 2014 a good year to pick Romo's eventual replacement

For those that want to spend a second or third round pick on a QB, why? There is a very slim chance that they will become an elite QB, very slim. Bite the bullet and get a top prospect.

Read said quote form Jerry:

“Although we’ve just signed Romo, there’s a time when you start at quarterback, preparing for the future,” Jones explained. “We can’t talk about, I’m forbidden, from league rules of talking at all about an undrafted player"

We are going to have the biggest name athlete in Texas playing for the Cowboys next season. Why? Because Jerry is a business man. When his team gets stale, the revenue goes down. And that's when Jerry makes the splash that reels us all back in, and makes the money roll in once again.

The kid is a competitor and a winner. He's the whole team. Without him, they are nothing. That's what will make him succeed at the next level. Plus, Jerry isn't afraid of drafting the troubled athletes. He turned Dez around, didn't he?

These QBs who come from power house programs rarely make it because they are surrounded with talent that makes them look better. Leniert, Sanchez, Jemarcus Russell, Colt McCoy, Stafford, Tebow, Clausen......

They wont get a shot at Teddy B, but I really like Brett Hundley at UCLA. Just heard an interview with him, very bright and personable, and oh BTW he can flat out play.

Forget about Romos replacement, but how about Romos competition. I think that is what needs to be done at this point, is bring in someone who will make Tony look over his shoulder. I would hate to say it but Jonny Football seems logical knowing Jerry and how he always goes with the flow in the NFL now being the mobile QB/read option/pistol.

I would trade up in next years draft with picks to get Johnny foofball

Good point ^

Romo was at his best early on when he was constantly fighting to be the starting QB and earn everyone's trust.

He needs that competition. I think most players do as well.

Now that is some extreme dislike. I disliked Deion Sanders for the same reason, even when he was with the Cowboys, but I didn't let that dislike make me quit the team. Manziel is a kid who let his sudden fame get the best of him. But the key part of that phrase is "kid." He'll take some lumps in the SEC and he'll grow up a bit. Ego aside, he did put up 42 points on Alabama. He had an interception on a tipped pass and the one in the end zone his receiver stopped on the route. Don't misunderstand, I'm not saying the Cowboys should draft him, all I'm saying is that if he were available Jerry Jones would have to have him, but fans shouldn't quit on the Cowboys because of one showboat player.

I bet fans all over the NFL are having this same discussion, except maybe SF, Wash, and Seattle. The Jacksonville forums are probably screaming at each other with the pros and cons of Manziel.

I'll never quit on the Cowboys...been a fan since the early 70's...but, I can't stand him with his show-boating, his getting in people's faces after he makes a play...he is classless...he is a very good college player, but I don't think his game translates to stardom in the NFL...if the Cowboys ever got extremely stupid and traded up to get him, I would lose the little faith in the FO that I have currently...I am not overly concerned about it because you don't draft him to sit him if you are JJ, you draft him to play so you can get the media buzz...he isn't starting over Romo...I can't see him with a star on his helmet

I agree that there is practically no chance he is drafted by the Cowboys. And, I agree about his cocky showmanship. Classless is the right word.

2014: Bridgewater, Boyd, Manziel
2015: Jameis Winston, Mariota, Hundley (both eligible for 2014 but I think they'll stay another year), Blake Bortles (UCF), and Bryce Petty (Baylor; could lead them to a season better than what RG3 did)

I am weary of him being from Oregon's wide open offense. Also lots of quick short passes. It'll be a tough adjustment to the Pro's. He'll need alot of seasoning.

It is only his 2nd year and so he has only played 14 or 15 games total? His play has been extremely impressive. Plus when you consider he basically has 3 years of college ball left and then perhaps sitting behind Romo another 1-2 years if the Dallas were able to draft him. It would be an ideal situation.

Man, I was about to type something up about this Johnny Classless but you pretty much nailed it. I don't want him here and don't think his game would translate to the NFL.

Hate the attitude. Gotcha. He'll grow out of that. His game translation? Please. Have you really watched him play. He beat National Champion Alabama last year and made two bad throws this year. Alabama is the measuring stick. Their defense last year would probably rank top 20 if they suited up on Sundays for an NFL team.

I like Romo, but JM is sweet. He's a smaller Aaron Rogers.

Game 1 freshman:

Game 2 Sophomore:

He threw considerably more than two poor passes. He simply only got picked off twice. Romo through a plethora of bad passes Sunday that weren't picked off.

Remember Sumlin's last prodigy Case Keenum? Kid was unstoppable at Houston. He put up staggering numbers. Where is he now? Manziel has gotten it done on a big stage. I will give him that. He has a long way to go as an NFL quarterback prospect though.

Alabama's defense would get pummeled into the earth. Look at all these "can't miss" prospects who came to the NFL from that defense. Have any of them proven to be world beaters in the pros? I hate this argument. I hate it in every sport. You realize every NFL team is made up essentially of an all-star NCAA team, right?
