Is 2014 a good year to pick Romo's eventual replacement

He threw considerably more than two poor passes. He simply only got picked off twice. Romo through a plethora of bad passes Sunday that weren't picked off.

Remember Sumlin's last prodigy Case Keenum? Kid was unstoppable at Houston. He put up staggering numbers. Where is he now? Manziel has gotten it done on a big stage. I will give him that. He has a long way to go as an NFL quarterback prospect though.

Alabama's defense would get pummeled into the earth. Look at all these "can't miss" prospects who came to the NFL from that defense. Have any of them proven to be world beaters in the pros? I hate this argument. I hate it in every sport. You realize every NFL team is made up essentially of an all-star NCAA team, right?

No. 1 in the nation in scoring defense, total defense and rush defense in 2012.

Yes I was being sarcastic about the top 20 comment, but all jokes aside, that unit collectively was better than some defenses I saw on the field last year.

Hate the attitude. Gotcha. He'll grow out of that. His game translation? Please. Have you really watched him play. He beat National Champion Alabama last year and made two bad throws this year. Alabama is the measuring stick. Their defense last year would probably rank top 20 if they suited up on Sundays for an NFL team.

I like Romo, but JM is sweet. He's a smaller Aaron Rogers.

Game 1 freshman:
C/ATTYDSAVGTDINTQBR
J. Manziel24/312538.220

Game 2 Sophomore:
C/ATTYDSAVGTDINT
Manziel28/3946411.952

he will grow out of it? Yeah sure.

I have watched him play, I just recently watching him against Alabama and yeah, he takes off and runs with the ball a lot and throws the ball up a lot but you don't get away with that stuff as much in the NFL where the game is way faster. He threw the ball over and over to a 6'5 WR who was poorly covered the whole game and then also threw up a silly hail marry type pass that "wowed" some people but I wasn't impressed at all. Now would he play better than Romo is playing right now? Probably so.. but that isn't saying much.

He is not even on the same planet as Aaron Rodgers.

Now that is some extreme dislike. I disliked Deion Sanders for the same reason, even when he was with the Cowboys, but I didn't let that dislike make me quit the team. Manziel is a kid who let his sudden fame get the best of him. But the key part of that phrase is "kid." He'll take some lumps in the SEC and he'll grow up a bit. Ego aside, he did put up 42 points on Alabama. He had an interception on a tipped pass and the one in the end zone his receiver stopped on the route. Don't misunderstand, I'm not saying the Cowboys should draft him, all I'm saying is that if he were available Jerry Jones would have to have him, but fans shouldn't quit on the Cowboys because of one showboat player.

I bet fans all over the NFL are having this same discussion, except maybe SF, Wash, and Seattle. The Jacksonville forums are probably screaming at each other with the pros and cons of Manziel.

I actually think Cleveland is having that discussion because Bridgewater is the 1st overall pick, then depending what team is 2nd, either Clowney or another QB so I think Cleveland willl trade up to 2 or 3 for a QB

I would LOVE for Jacksonville or Cleveland to get Johnny Classless. Talk about a career ender going to one of those teams.

Forget about Romos replacement, but how about Romos competition. I think that is what needs to be done at this point, is bring in someone who will make Tony look over his shoulder. I would hate to say it but Jonny Football seems logical knowing Jerry and how he always goes with the flow in the NFL now being the mobile QB/read option/pistol.

I knew we would get at least one "replace Romo now" post. Two games into the season, Romo is playing well, and the haters are still out!

BTW, am I missing something? Manziel would be eligible for the draft in 2014, will he? I thought he was a red shirt sophomore. Won't he have to wait until after his junior year?

You just signed Romo to a 5 year deal. When you draft a qb in this time and age you are throwing him out there. I don't think the Cowboys can afford a draft pick for a backup who will sit for 3 or 4 years.

He did one thing - took advantage of a giant mismatch his huge WR one on one against a small DB who won't be a pro. Other than that he threw picks and ran around.

I'm not sure he is special enough to be a good NFL QB. He'l get creamed running the ball he is not big.

He completed the ball to 10 different receivers in that game as well, the guy can play football and if he's available, the Cowboys should take him.

Him being a redshirt sophomore means that he's been in college for 3 years, therefore, making him eligible for the upcoming draft.

Ditto. How sweet would it be to have Gio right now? Go Heels!
Yea I wanted Quinn, Coples, Cooper, Zach Brown, Nicks, Peppers and the list goes on. Tar Heels is second to Alabama for most players taken in round 1 and 2 the past year. Over all UNC has put more talent in the pros then any other school including all 7 rounds. Not including our UDFA that we have put in. Lots of good talent. By the way yes I wanted Gio more then any other back but I will settle for Blue next year. Get it done Jerry

I meant the past few years UNC is second to Alabama

If you wait much longer, you risk wasting the prime of some of your good young players. With the rookie salary cap, it shouldn't be unmanageable salary wise. And Tony shouldn't be the automatic starter. I would say maybe.

Anxious to see if Blake Bortles with UCF comes out in 2014. Believe he's a Rjr . Good arm and mobile. Led UCF over Penn St.last weekend.

He is? We must be watching 2 different Romo's. Romo has looked awful.

Awful compared to his usual self, yes. But he's still playing better then half the QBs in the league, and that's even with banged up ribs. I'll be worried when week 8 rolls around and if he's still playing at the same level. Right now it's only week 2.

Compared to his usual self? Why don't you go back and compare him to last year after eight games?
If Romo hadn't played the eagles 2 times last year guess what his qb rating for the year would have been? Mind you, that was a eagles team that had quit, a team that Alabama could have whipped.
If he had played a average nfl team instead of the beagles, no way he lands that ridicules contract.

Seriously people, u have to start thinking about the cowboys and the future and let romo go.

Did you really just say Alabama would have "whipped" the eagles last year, wow that shows how much you really know about the NFL. College is no where near the NFL level, only the ELITE college players play in the NFL. Stick to college football, junior.

So that's your best argument? LOL I'd also bet you're a bit junior to me.

Whatever you say to make yourself feel better bud, I'm not going to waste time on someone who's obviously not very knowledgable of pro football.
