If we are going to pat ourselves on the back, I said back the Roy Williams trade was a mistake because it would be detrimental to Miles Austin's development.

Also, I still stand by the comment I made earlier this year, a Patrick Crayton and Miles Austin starting tandem is not a bad idea.

I did ... at least since 1960 (which is as far back as the search goes).

Here are all of the receivers with at least 400 yards in back-to-back games --

450 Chad Johnson, 2006 (260, 190)
448 John Taylor, 1989 (162, 286)
442 Jerry Rice, 1995 (289, 153)
421 Miles Austin, 2009 (250, 171)
413 Flipper Anderson, 1989 (336, 77)
412 Terrell Owens, 2000 (129, 283)
410 Jerry Rice, 1995 (121, 289)
400 Sonny Randle, 1962 (144, 256)

Rice's two instances came in three straight games (121, then 289, then 153).

Chad Johnson and Miles Austin are the only two guys on that list who ever had two straight games of at least 170 yards. Rice never did it in his entire career. The closest Owens ever came was 171 and 166 in 2002. Austin also is the first Cowboys player to do it.

My goodness. How did Flipper Anderson get 336 yds in one game? That's just crazy.

That was a 49ers game back in 1994 when they had Deion.

The crazy part was that he had Deion beat for the winning TD with less than 2 minutes to go but Deion closed at the last second and knocked it away to give the 49ers the win - probably would have been another 40 or 50 yards otherwise.

In Miles' second year there was the GB game where he forced two PIs. I think it was the next week he came across the middle and caught a ball with both hands. The thing that really impressed me there was how he caught the ball cleanly, ran through the ball and then exploded upfield for about a 20 yard gain. I had a feeling right there that he could play the WR position. It's a darn shame that he ran into the injury bug last year.

he's had 2 good games. when he can string together a good season or two...then you can annoint him, but otherwise, put the annointing oil away.

don't get me wrong, I like Austin and I think he's got TONS of potential. Let's just not lose our heads here now...

I'd rather lose my head over a guy that's producing as opposed to someone that's not. Give the kid his credit he's putting up amazing numbers.

It's not potential anymore - he is producing at an absurd clip in the NFL. The kid is for real. Defenses will now need to gameplan around him and this should open things up for others. It will be interesting to see if Roy can take advantage of that.

Great part is Austin is not getting the big head when the accolades where being thrown at him after the game he down played it. He knows it is week to week and he needs to continue to work hard to help this team. Austin seems to be as down to earth as any player out there.

I've been an Austin fan for a while ... especially after he flashed big play ability during the playoff game in Seattle.

His key will be staying healthy.
