Is Avila a reach at 26?

Would drafting Avila at 26 be a reach?

I want you on record now. I feel like Steve Avila is as likely a pick at 26 as any other despite not really carrying that grade from the draft world.

I like the player. You probably like the player. That's not the point of this question. Close your eyes and imagine this....

With the 26th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft the Dallas Cowboys select, Steve Avila G TCU.

Did they reach?

Wait. Before you answer. His real name is actually Esteban. Esteban Avila. That's pretty damn sweet and should be noted before you vote.

Yes because he won’t be the highest graded player on their board. No way he’s graded in the top 26 on anybody’s board. More of a 35-45 type of player. It’s the reason we are being linked to TEs at 26 because there’s a good chance when we are on the clock a TE will be the highest graded player left.

100% guaranteed we would get a C grade or lower from NFL Network and ESPN

Guaranteed though it won’t matter come week 1 like Tyler Smith

Unless you want a TE in round 1 in a TE rich draft, 26 is not ideal. Hopefully somebody slips to them or we trade back.

They can trade back and get him. If they want him that is the best route to get him and an extra pick. I think that he goes between 26 and 48.

A reach, maybe like Travis Frederick was. Envision Jahmyr Gibbs is available at #26. We get offered #31 and #95 by Kansas City (that’s an equitable trade). Still get Avila at #31 with 3 more picks in the top 100. Something like that would be ideal.

It’s only a reach if a significantly better player is still available.
One of the top 3 OTs, one of the top 4 CBs, one of the top 3 WRs, the second best DT still on the board, then it’s a reach for an OG. Anything less, including any of the TEs, then it’s not a reach if you expect he can start at LG on opening day. The real question is if Steele and Tyron and Tyler and Zach are all healthy, it’s unlikely Avila or any other OL man will see the field. I’m crossing my fingers that There’s a CB, DT, or WR that we are excited about. There will be OGs and TEs and RBs on days 2 and 3.

Yes it's a reach. No , I don't care - if they are wiped out at OL and know he won't be around at 58.
Get on wit yo bad self !

Not if they want him.
That's not how the draft works.

You draft players that you want at appropriate slotting.

You could trade down and get both Avilla and a player like LaPorta or Stevenson...in exchange for that one pick.

It takes two to tango. If he's your top-rated player and you're sure he won't be there at your next pick and you can't find a trade partner, then you should take him, regardless of whether people will call it a reach or not.

Definitely a reach but likely a day one starter for us. I worry about his strength level starting out but he’s a good athlete.

It's a reach like Frederick....my biggest concern is...did you just draft Leonard Davis...and he's a one contract kid because his knees are a mess by the time he's 25.

It would be a smallish reach but it's a "safe pick" at a position of need. I could think of worse things.

Yes, I think people should pay more attention to Kancey.

Everyone says he's a situational pass rusher. But he has the speed, and size, to also play LB, IMO, or pretty much any position on the line.
