Is Avila a reach at 26?

Would drafting Avila at 26 be a reach?

Avila is most definitely a reach at 26. He's a late 2nd - 3rd round grade.

I would rather the Cowboys take Atonio Mafi in the 5th round. Leave the 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks for playmakers at RB and WR, plus add a DT or LB who can help our D.

Ex-DT converted to O-Guard who is a mauler in the run. Needs some refining with his pass blocking, but this guy has some mean and nastiness to him.

Yea, Im waiting til the 2nd to see if any of these guys fall or just take a mid rounder.

That's not how the draft works.

You draft players that you want at appropriate slotting.

You could trade down and get both Avilla and a player like LaPorta or Stevenson...in exchange for that one pick.
You mean the exact way it worked last year with Tyler Smith? You're going off your perceived value. You and all the draft boards in the world don't know how Dallas values Avila. Maybe they've got a 4th round grade on him, maybe they have a first. But their value is all that matters because they've vetted the player through film, combine visits, in house visits on the chalk board, and personal meetings with his past coaches and trainers. Your "appropriate slotting" is from reading where Brugler/Zierlein slot players and it's not the same.

All the draft boards and resident draft "gurus" had Tyler Smith with a 2nd round grade last year. Dallas didn't. Instead of hoping that Smith would fall to #56, or hoping they could trade back and get him they instead drafted the player they wanted when he was available to them regardless of what the glossy draft guides said.

100% guaranteed we would get a C grade or lower from NFL Network and ESPN

Guaranteed though it won’t matter come week 1 like Tyler Smith
I honestly believe Avila could make a Pro Bowl at C or G.

It's like Travis Frederick and Tyler Smith for me if they do take him at 26. I just wish they would have traded down a little first.

It’s not a reach to me if you feel that the player is worth it. I’d prefer that to trying to get cute and losing out.

This is it in a nuthshell. Yes on draft day you wish you got a bit better value on him. But once he starts playing on Sundays, pancaking people and opening up running lanes for Pollard or whoever the RB is. We will all be happy.

He might be a reach that plays more snaps in year 1 than any other rookie you could take at pick 26.

I want you on record now. I feel like Steve Avila is as likely a pick at 26 as any other despite not really carrying that grade from the draft world.

I like the player. You probably like the player. That's not the point of this question. Close your eyes and imagine this....

With the 26th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft the Dallas Cowboys select, Steve Avila G TCU.

Did they reach?

Wait. Before you answer. His real name is actually Esteban. Esteban Avila. That's pretty damn sweet and should be noted before you vote.
Draft for the trenches. RG needs to he solidified. RB's can be had later, so beef up the line.

In round 1, I do think we draft an offensive skill player. TE RB WR..

We have to be able to beat San Fran.

We need fast, strong, athletic bully type players.

Of course, we'll end up drafting Jordan Addison.

Addison would be a great pick IMO. He’s arguably the best route runner in the class, can win on all 3 levels and has inside / outside versatility.

Trade down with NO (29) and get their 115 pick or KC (31) and get their 95 pick. Perfect value on the chart.
