We’ve seen this before (McGovern) (Steele). Maybe he just can’t play the left side.
He was a left tackle in college, so he could actually have more problems playing right tackle because of the footwork. I think it's unfair to expect him, coming off a year where he was injured, to be able to handle the swing tackle role. He needs development.
I think we sometimes expect too much of players early, especially from those drafted later because of flaws in their game, because we're essentially forced to rely on them. Sometimes you find a player like Steele, who can step in immediately and show promise; you end up with a player like Bradie James, who wasn't ready to start until his fourth season; or you swing and miss.
Dallas doesn't need to rely on Ball as the swing tackle this year, but it needs to give him a couple of years of development to see if he can develop into at least a swing tackle.
