Is Ball a RT only?

We’ve seen this before (McGovern) (Steele). Maybe he just can’t play the left side.

He was a left tackle in college, so he could actually have more problems playing right tackle because of the footwork. I think it's unfair to expect him, coming off a year where he was injured, to be able to handle the swing tackle role. He needs development.

I think we sometimes expect too much of players early, especially from those drafted later because of flaws in their game, because we're essentially forced to rely on them. Sometimes you find a player like Steele, who can step in immediately and show promise; you end up with a player like Bradie James, who wasn't ready to start until his fourth season; or you swing and miss.

Dallas doesn't need to rely on Ball as the swing tackle this year, but it needs to give him a couple of years of development to see if he can develop into at least a swing tackle.

McCarthy said after the draft they see Ball as a right side player. He’s playing a lot of left because Waletzko is injured.

The practice and preseason action against the Broncos was his first action against an NFL team. Let's see how he adjusts the rest of the way. He's basically a rookie.

You are right, but there have been rumors he's not the hardest worker and he's been getting embarrassed ever since OTA's. It's going to take a major turnaround these last two preseason games for the Cowboys to not bring in a veteran swing tackle by week one.

I'm not sure where those rumors are coming from.

He looks like I'd think a 4th round rookie would look like, honestly.

And this thread, for that matter, looks a lot what I would expect Cowboys fans would say of a player being given a chance to earn a swing tackle role after his first preseason NFL game.

But honest truth is, his run blocking was adequate... his pass protection was never outstanding, mostly passable, and on two occasions as far as I was counting, ugly.

Do I think it's likely he makes so much progress in the next week to cause optimism that he can make the 53-man?

Not "likely," but ya gotta give a kid a legitimate opportunity, and wait to see the outcomes of the next preseason game.

More likely he ends up on practice squad... sure. But let it play out.

He can be turned right or left ( RT / LT) by DEs , no favoritism…

Eric Fisher I believe is still on the market . Had some good yrs in KC then one year in Indy. Have him back up 77 and let Ball handle the Terence Steele RT back up pos. Not sure I want Ball after missing all of 2021 protecting # 4’s blindside . Fisher played for 8 mill last yr. Won’t break the bank . Veteran .

Josh Ball was better at LT (Florida State) in 2017 than T. Steele was at RT (Texas Tech) in 2020.
