I was thinking about this reading around this morning, and I wonder if it's not true. Over the offseason, I had felt Bill was a bit overrated in the media's eyes, and people in general. His team's had underachieved, maybe due to injury, but underachieved nonetheless. But then I started thinking....

What coach has done more to build a team? I'm not familiar with thee GM situation in Chicago, but alot of the pieces were there before Lovie. In San Diego, AJ Smith takes care of personnel. Bill has his finger on both coaching and GMing. He's completely turned over our roster during his tenure. These are some of the best built teams in the league.

What coach has developed a project QB who looks poised to break out and be quite good like Bill?

What coach consistently provides a blueprint to do what other teams cannot accomplish? Shutting down Steve Smith, holding elite RBs in check, stopping the Colts and confusing Peyton. Who in the league does this on a regular basis?

Is Bill currently the best coach in the league? He has his weaknesses, but if he's not, who is?

I think Parcells is one of the top HC to walk a sideline in the NFL and I think there are some other really good coaches in the league even some that are coaching losing teams right now. Head Coaches have to deal with the NFL desire for Parity these day which makes their jobs tougher than ever before. Your constantly losing players and trying to bring new guys in and have them learn the systems. They have to deal with salary caps which most have little control over since they are not the GM. Myself I would hate to have their job and constantly be second guessed by every idiot with a sony playstation and the lastest version of Madden. :laugh2:

When i think of all the coaches around the league, the
one word that best fits Parcells is architect.Team
after team,he has completely started from the ground
up,and made them built to last.I'm glad we got him.

i think winning a game in the playoffs may be a prerequisite for consideration as best coach in the league.

i agree that parcells has put together a good team. no offense, but, this is a stretch.

Funny how that works. I heard how the game had passed him by and now a couple of wins and he is king again. I saw the same with Schottenheimer on different occasions one day the game has passed him by the next he is one of the top coaches in the league. I know people like to think that football is completely different now days but it is not to be successful still takes the same things today as before.

Parcells is obviously is a very good coach.

But he's not the same coach as he was with the Giants. I would have liked to see that coach...coach the Cowboys.

If things work out the way they look like they're going to work out, that's pretty much his crowning achievement, don't you think? Him and Payton were behind this from the beginning, and had a plan when it looked some times like they were just spinning their tires.

I think he's still there, just not so demonstrative.

One thing, real quick....people talk about teams taking on the personality of the HC. People want more fire out of Parcells. Tom Coughlin is a guy with fire, and he borders on losing control. Wonder how much that plays into Shockey and Burress' antics on the sidelines. I'd like to see them more fired up sometimes, but coaches losing control leads to players losing control.

How about two Super Bowl victories ... going to the Super Bowl with a second team which was a pathetic franchise before Bill arrived ... and taking another team to the AFL championship.

NY Giants ... New England ... Jets ... Dallas ... all four teams were pathetic or down right awful before his arrival. All three became winners before he left.

Is Parcells one of the best coaches in NFL history? No doubt!

What is your critieria? Are you talking right this very second at 8:51 CST time or over the last month, year, couple of years?

Personally, I dont know who the best coach in the NFL is but Bill Parcells has a ton of talent to play around with and I think we should have a better record then 6-4. Also, you really have to take into account that even though hindsight is 20/20, I think he made a serious error not going with Romo at the start of the season.

And as someone said in this thread, to get that title of Best Coach, you need to start making the Playoffs and winning games.

The question is is he the best coach now....

His legacy overall has never been questioned.

I agree. Landry was a coach in control and players responded to it. Now his assistant coaches like Reeves, Ditka and Stuatner where more animated on the sideline getting in players faces but Tom maintained a business like control. I’m not saying that is the only way to do it I think coaches have to be who they are, if your trying to be something your not your players will see right through it. As for Bill I don’t think he has lost his fire I think tries to do a better job of controlling it.

No Bill Parcells is not the NFL's best caoch. He may very well be the best team builder in the NFL but he is mediocre at best as a gameday sideline coach and game planner. We do much better since he has turned over the play calling to someone else on both offense and defense.

Best coach now ... you can't accurately judge that. Too small of a sample size.

You want to use playoffs and championships at a criteria? You can't because we haven't had any playoffs or championships this season.

You want to judge by this season? You can't because the season isn't over.

You want to judge by this season to date? Well, then Dungy is the obvious choice for best coach. You feel good with Dungy being the best coach in the NFL? I don't.

I think he is the best GM, he is unmatched at assembling talent. This roster was almost completely devoid of NFL talent when he got here. Now it is loaded.

I don't think he's the best sideline or game preparation coach right now. Top 5 yes. No matter how you cut it, this team is more talented than 6-4. I would probably put Tony Dungy or Jeff Fisher at the top right now.

see mickgreen58's post.

the question is-"Is Bill currently the best coach in the league?"

i think parcells has built a very good young team and i think the boys will win the division. not sure if i'd say he's the best coach at the moment.
