Is Bobby Carpenter underrated?

Bobby Carpenter is underrated because fans expect for him to simply be a beast right away. Only position Bobby Carpenter really has been playing since he's been drafted is, special teams. So how can expectations be high on him when he really haven't had the playing time. Just give him close to the end of this season, he's going to get interceptions and sacks.

Hey, you once said he looked like a "lost toddler out there". I agreed with you then, but I think the guy is coming around to a pretty good player this year. We're entitled to change our minds as long as we admit we were wrong or see a change that deserves a different sort of "praise".
:laugh2:

That's a good Point.

Any time you see Carpenter, he is missing a tackle and making a fool out of himself. It is embarrassing to watch him struggle. He got a sack when he was unblocked, and shooting the A gap on a 7 step drop. Great play. Time after time he is the guy getting juked and falling over in the most unathletic fashion possible. He is a complete liability on the field, and he is certainly not going to get a new contract.

How are you certain, Bobby isn't getting a new contract?

I believe a whole lot of people that's disappointed in Bobby Carpenter was expecting too much from the start which makes him undderrated but in others minds that is disappointed in his play considers him overrated.

What do you as fans think?

I think when he was picked 18th overall, it set the bar fairly high. It didn't help that Antonio Cromartie was picked right after him, and then guys like Nick Mangold, DeMeco Ryans, Santonio Holmes, Joe Addai, Deangelo Williams, ...just to name a few.

But now that a whole lot of fans looking at him as a bust, the expectations shouldn't be all that high. Atleast he isn't making too many mistakens. He's rarely making a mistake at all.

If Carpenter stays here and I mean IF then he will get a chance to compete at the Mo. I don't see him being physical enough to do the job. I hope I'm wrong about him. I do give him a chance though. He's playing with more confidence and has actually been pretty good in the cover game. Better than last year's nickleLB. You didn't hear much from Celek or Gonzalez and that's saying something.

To date he's not been worth a first round pick. He probably wouldn't even be on the team without having been a first rounder AAMOF.

I don't think he'll stay because someone will offer him a shot at a starting position based on his play in the nickel (see Kevin Burnett). But I do like that we have him for a couple of seasons to play the nickel spot because he's doing a good job at it.

People keep griping about the first-round pick, but I really don't care about that ... what's done is done. I only care if the players we have are an asset to our team, and he has been this season. His progress gives us a chance to let Jason Williams and Stephen Hodge develop before they get their shot to take that role.

I believe eventually this year Bobby Carpenter will show that he's worth keeping.
