Ap missed the whole year.
So did Hardy, but that's because he was on the exempt list. He still got paid so it wasn't considered a suspension. They then tried to suspend him longer than the old policy called for and he sued, and won. Its likely to be the same results if Hardy sues.
IMO, Hardy was always a rental. At worst we were hoping for a 12-14 game rental and then a rookie or someone else would be in line to start next year if we couldn't retain Hardy. As of now he's here for 6 regular season games. Pass rush is a cause for concern. Teams have shown in the past that you can literally have JAG's in the secondary with a solid to dominant defensive line.
The defense line will get beter by default just for Tyrone to get another year where he's healthy as will Demarcus Lawrence. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be upgraded. It should. You can win in this league with our secondary and linebackers. IC an't say the same for our defensive linemen.
That couldn't be more wrong. On both parts.Hardy is gone for ten games and not likely to resign after this year.
That couldn't be more wrong. On both parts.
Hardy, Lee, Bryon Jones. Just essentially added 2 pro bowlers and a 1st round elite corner to the defense. Have to imagine that counts for something on the W/L columns.
You can win with our secondary?.......what secondary, Claiborne is still hurt, Scandrick is holding out and Carr status is up in the air. We have Patmon right now.
Please explain this secondary we have
Really? Because the two biggest weaknesses (corner/DE) were filled this offseason. And the third or fourth biggest holes (DT/safety) may be filled tomorrow night. Not to mention our LB corps is at least better on paper this year. Without a doubt, the defense *should* improve based on this offseason. As constructed our defense has the same weakness that they had last year.
This is all assuming that Carr, Claiborne and Scandrick will be coming back. I've see. Worse secondaries field for solid defenses is all I'm saying. I actually like the Jones pick. I just don't agree that the defensive line is fine.
Why wouldn't it stick? I hope it doesn't but I think it will. He will be high priced after showcasing himself a few games for Dallas. Hope I'm wrong.
Hardy may not play till later in the season. Maybe he only gets 6 games off. And Lawrence although he showed some promise at the end of last year is still largely unknown. I would have preferred DT help the most though. That's an area we aren't very good at right now. If we don't draft a RB I would like to see us draft Michael Bennett out of Ohio State.
I think 1T has enough bodies to throw at it to have at least one guy be an average starter. I think we need another pass rushing DT though. Bennett, Cooper or Jarrett in the 2nd would be good fits for what we need and value.
It depends on what the staff thinks we need more of. DL or RB help. I think we may need more DL help slightly. Particularly the tackle spots. Bennett is my favorite player that could realistically be available. But if they draft say Colemon at RB I wouldn't be pissed either. He's basically DeMarco Murray out of college. Maybe not as accomplished but they are exactly the same type player.
Byron is going to be a FS/DB hybrid. Remember how we've always talked about having a true FS since Woody left? He's probably the closest to it that's not a "project."
