- Every one of us have a guy in the back of our mind we prefer over Garrett. But I heard something today from Broadus on the Draft Show where he said.."
- "Garrett was the best talent evaluator this team has ever had"
- ."I had to stop at that comment and think about it.I had not considered that part of his job.I just considered Will Clay to be the main brain there. But if that is true..then you have to give him more credit than he has received for the job of building the team the last 3 years.
- It has improved a lot and normally I do not think of Garrett in the War Room as being a player.
But I guess I am wrong there. Broadus should know.He has been around a bit. Hmmm..
so much hate on here for the guy that has produced 3 division titles and 2 playoff wins in last 5 years.
you guys crack me up with the jg is terrible, should be coaching at a lower level...blah blah blah...doesnt it get old?
you can't have team success consistently and havr the coach be terrible...and despite the narrative you try to spin, this team has seen more success in the last 5 years than any other 5 year period going back to the 90s.
jg is a big part of that....now I'm not saying he's a great coach but to call him anything as negative as some of you are is just emotional venting bc you are pissed off the cowboys h avent advanced to the nfc championship game in decades...
just admit it and stop using the jg is a terrible coach line bc he's not and your emotional degrading of a better than average coach to make your fandom feel better gets really old
I'm not a Broadus fan but this is just his opinion and I tend to agree with it; if we are just talking about coaches. I personally think his time under Jimmy Johnson as a player and his time coaching under Nick Saben and his continued relationship with Saben gives him a different perspective on how he looks at players. Both Jimmy and Nick were and are 2 of the greatest college coaches of all time; largely because of how they were able to evaluate talent and IMO Jason he learned a thing or 2 from them. But with all of that said Will McClay is the driving force of identifying viable talent despite coaches, owners and GMs being involved.Comments ftom the peanut gallery?

Interesting observations.Maybe he was talking about Jim Garrett (Jason's Dad).
I think Garrett helped get Will McClay promoted and I think Garrett lets McClay and the scouting dept do their jobs.
The only draft picks I specifically remember that Garrett wanted were:
MartyB
Floyd the DT in the draft where they traded down and took Fredrick.
The credit for Dak goes to Wade Wilson.
Garrett over-ruled Bill Callahan on the starting RT. Callahan was the best position coach they've have had this decade and an expert on the OLine but Garrett thought he knew more about the OL than Callahan. Due to injury, the backup eventually played and was better than the starter just like Callahan had said 2 years earlier.
I tend to think Garrett was involved in the backup QBs they obtained in 2015 when Romo was out. Those QBs were big failures.
Garrett did convince Beasley to re-consider quitting during his rookie year. Most HCs would have just let him quit.
Wade Phillips contribution to the draft was LB Jason Williams who couldn't play a lick in the NFL.
Chan Gailey's contribution was convincing Jerry NOT to draft Randy Moss.
Still bad at his job. If he is so good evaluating talent move him to the FO. He is wasting the talent he “evaluated”.
It starts and ends with Jimmy Johnson the man who brought me such joy from 1989-1993. That man turned the league on its head. That bravado, swagger, ability to close. Success can be so fleeting.Comments ftom the peanut gallery?

That would be Jimmie Johnson
