Is Golden Tate the best Wide Receiver in this year's draft?

To me people, he's like an Chris Johnson in a way. Why you might ask? Because when Chris Johnson came out he wasn't even looked at as the best player at his position but he proven that he should have been a top 3 player drafted in the first round. And Im making a comparison from Golden Tate to Chris Johnson because of the situation, which was they were the best at their position on the board.

I believe Golden Tate in my eyes and from my evaluations of the guy, he's the best Wide Receiver in this year's draft. First of all, you have to look at tapes, statisitcs, off-the-field, on-the-field, etc. He's a game-breaker. He got the body of a running back but the skills of an elite wide receiver. This could be another deep threat for Romo.

I really reccomend Cowboys draft Golden Tate. Why is he the best over wide receivers like Dez Bryant and Damayrius Thomas? Okay, from my knowledge Golden Tate has been more durable, no problems off-the-field, he is consistently getting better from year to year.

His first year in 07 he had 6 catches for 131 yards receiving.
His second year in 08 he had 58 catches 1,080 yards receiving. That year he also led the Irish in all-purpose yards (1,754).
09 - 93 Catches for 1496 yards 15 Touchdowns his junior 09 season.

I SURE HOPE COWBOYS GIVE THIS A REAL CLOSE LOOK

you have a real woody for Tate or something? You started a thread on him yesterday man. Why not just put this there.

I think Golden Tate is a very good player but I like Dez Bryant and the kid from GA Tech a little better.

Damn right!

Tate just doesn't have enough size or elite speed.

If you want a WR/RS with true elite speed than draft Jacoby Ford.

The statistics don't lie. All these players played atleast three years in college. Golden Tate was more productive and durable.

Golden Tate

157 catches 2707 receiving yards 17.2 average 26 receiving touchdowns
and 31 Carries for 249 yards 8.0 average with 3 rushing touchdowns.

Dez Bryant

147 catches 2425 receiving yards 16.5 average 29 touchdowns (all receiving).

Damayrius Thomas

120 catches 2339 receiving yards 19.5 average 15 touchdowns.

His production would have been even better had it not been for the offense GA Tech ran and you have you look at their QB situation.

I like Tate, I like Thomas, and I have mixed feelings about Dez, but the guy that's always had my interest is Benn. He's looked like an NFL WR since day one at Illinois. I think at worst he becomes a solid #2 WR, and he becomes it quickly. He also would help in the return game.

Tate certainly made a lot of plays at ND, so I can't knock him too much, but it would be nice to get a WR with a little more size.

Here's the deal though...

Dez Bryant only started 19 of his 28 games, yet he managed to haul in 29 TD's with (I forgot their names) throwing to him at OKST. What's even more outstanding is the fact, that he grabbed 23 of those in his last 16 games! If Bryant had finished the rest of the Junior season, he would have probably topped 40 TD's receiving and possibly another on returns. That's why Bryant is the #1 WR in this draft and deservedly so.

D. Thomas played in a triple offense at GT with (I forgot their names) throwing to him and was basically the only passing threat on a running team. Yet, he still managed to average 19.5 YAC for his career at GT. In the last 3 years with Thomas aboard, GT has only thrown the ball approx 600 times. By comparison, Jimmy Clausen alone has thrown over 1,110 times in that same span, completing 695 to Tate among other receivers at Notre Dame.

There's no denying, that Tate had an excellent Junior season with 15 TD's and almost 1,496 yards receiving. However, I think most defensive coaches and DB's were more worried about 6-3 220 Sophmore Michael Floyd. Who has 92 catches, 1,514 yards, 16 TD's and 16.6 avg in his two years. What I'm saying is, Tate had a big threat opposite of him in Floyd and that really helped his game. Where as Bryant and Thomas were really the only big threats in the passing game.

I don't know if that argument holds up. Floyd missed basically 6 games and Tate was still super productive. If you think teams weren't worried about him, you're wrong. It's also of note that Notre Dame couldn't run the ball at all last year, so teams knew the pass was coming. Sure Floyd looks like a better prospect, but Tate simply makes plays.

ND had Clausen and Tate and not much else. Their best TE was injured much of the season and so was Flloyd. And yet they were in every game up until the last minute-Tate did not make his yards against prevent defenses.

I don't think Tate is the best WR in this draft. I think there are some WR out there who will be bigger impacts than Tate.

Tates a football player though.

He can do the whole acrobat thing when the ball is in the air.

He has incredible balance and is toooouggh to bring down.

He also boosts your return game.

I wouldn't say he is the best WR in this class but in the right situation he could be.

You can have him then, cuz I have Tate ranked 4th behind Bryant, Thomas and Benn.

That's what my rankings are, well with Benn in front of Thomas. I just think Tate's a good prospect, and close enough to the others that he wouldn't be a reach in round 1. He brings something different to the table than the other guys. I might put Tate in front of Thomas since we haven't seen him run or workout, but it's close.

Dez Bryant IMO is and I think the rest of the league knows it. So much that even with the questions, he is the first WR off the board and it will be WAY before the Cowboys pick at 27th.

I think Bryant is the best WR in this draft but that doesn't mean that he will end up being the best. Tate has some serious skills and he's pretty intelligent. Tate's upside, IMO, is greater then Bryant's but Bryant has more natural ability. If he puts it all together, no question, Bryant is the best but that's a bit of an if IMO.

I think Brian B said last night he thinks they like him alot at VR. He also said he thinks they will draft a WR.

I wanna see Thomas workout too, but I'm still pretty confident he'll enjoy success in any system. I'm not as confident about Tate, because I think he'll need a pro bowl QB to succeed. The Pats could take him at #22 with Welker's status unclear, but I think they will pick Odrick or a DB. Tate going to the Jets at #29 is a possibility.

I'd take Tate if he was still there in the 2nd round....so i guess I'm saying it won't happen without a trade b/c he won't be there that late in Rd2.

Tate actually reminds me a little bit of Terry Glenn. Same kind of player, same kind of Skill Set. Tate is going to get much better as he spends more time at WR. He's a strong player with excellent explosion. As he learns the position, I think he's going to be a very good WR.
