Is it Brock Purdy or the culture?

Purdy is throwing to WIDE OPEN receivers because teams are stacking the box to stop the Niners strong run game. Debo and Ayuk are singled up and running amok. As soon as they play a defense that can stop the run under normal circumstances we will see his decline as he trues to fit passes into tight coverage. Bank on that.

Ask the Chargers
hes not great yet, and it is kind of like manning and brady playing, one of them i going to lose.

Lawrence beat Herbert yesterday and herbert is about to take off into the stratosphere as the next great qb.

I love it when people try to argue against the great qb argument and they say well if all it takes is a great qb, why did Rodgers only win one??? Uhm, because of Brady, Manning, Brees and the like...lol

Hows that Jags, "Culture" looking?

If I didn't know better (I don;t), I'd say some people around here are reluctant to praise Qb's.

If anyone praises another QB then the cult of Dak takes issue with it as they feel their idol is being slighted so they defend at all costs.
In particular if it's a QB drafted in the first round. There's some kind of weird inferiority complex going on with them related to the fact Dak was drafted in the 4th.

No doubt Brock Purdy has talent. But you have to love what they have built and cultivated in San Francisco. They SHOULD have won a Super Bowl with Jimmy G against the great Patrick Mahomes and that juggernaut in KC. You saw what the 49ers came into Dallas and did last year during the divisional round. And let's not forget they were without Deebo Samuel for a big chunk of the season. If CeeDee Lamb were to go down...would Dallas have been able to stay afloat? And I am not comparing CeeDee to Deebo....Deebo is a flat out beast.

I mean...I don't need to remind anyone that Jimmy G took them to the Super Bowl..the organization said "that was not good enough". They spent a top 5 pick on a QB...he was ineffective and got hurt...and they plug in Mr Irrelevant and don't skip a beat. I said it last year before our playoff game against the 49ers...the game against the 49ers last year was lost before it started...because the guy on their sidelines (kyle shanahann) gives them a decided advantage on gameday against the guy on our sidelines. Coaching (read culture) matters...especially in the postseason. They have that thing built RIGHT in San Fran.

Our culture is so fragile...I don't think we would even DARE draft a QB with Dak in the building. And this is not a bash Dak thread. It's about a REAL football organization versus an entitled entertainment conglomerate where football is one arm of Jerry's empire. I am smiling in admiration at the 49ers approach...for them to look at a guy that took them to a Super Bowl....decide he held them back....draft a guy top 5...then draft a guy in the 7th round because they thought that is what was best for their FOOTBALL team...with no concerns about how it would make there top 5 pick feel....get said 7th rounder ready to play.....IMPRESSIVE!!!!
2024, we're drafting a QB.

Purdy will never be what most fans want to call elite. He doesn’t have the arm strength or athletic ability.
But it’s not just the 49ers OL, receivers, run game, and coach. That’s a big part of it, but the kid has character. He moves well in the pocket and doesn’t appear to panic. I was impressed with the way he manipulated the rushers last night with slight movements.

Shanahan did a great job creating success and comfortable situations for the kid when he first took over, and Purdy is playing with great confidence in himself and the system. Could they ride that all the way to the SB? Yes, but it will be interesting to see how the kid reacts the first time he has multiple turnovers, a defense confuses him, and he faces a big deficit and loss. Then the Cinderella story will end and we will see what he really is.

I‘m just impressed that a team who recently gave up a lot to draft Trey Lance still stepped up and drafted another young QB. Even as Mr Irrelevant, that’s just not what we would expect from the Cowboys, and frankly, most fans would probably complain about.
Well said

The distinct difference between the 9ers organization (name any of the well run organizations in the League over the last 27 years) and the Dallas organization is who is the face if the organization. Who sets the culture?

In every other organization it is the head coach who is the face of the organization. The dominant voice of the organization. The culture setter. Andy Reid in KC. Shanahan in San Fran. Siriani in Philly. The Hoodie in New England. Tomlin in Pittsburgh. Harbaugh in Baltimore. They all obviously have good GMs that acquire talent in consultation with the HC, but the culture and tone of the team, the authority base for players is the HC.

We all know that is not true in Dallas. The ownership style is unique and not a successful one IMO. The way Jerry and Stephen overshadow their coach and team is tough to overcome and tough to handle. Interestingly, McCarthy seems to be the best to handle it since Parcells and Chan Gailey. The owner/GM and his VP son need to be less seen and even less heard outside of the building. Period. John Lynch a HOF player with rings of his own isn't as attention seeking and overshadowing as an 80yr old and his son who are playing fantasy football as football men since 1989.

Head coaches and players have come and gone. Yet Dallas has the same results. In any other organization a GM who continously hires the wrong HC and drafts/acquires the wrong players would have been replaced. Blaming everyone else but yourself and lack of accountability permeates the organization. It starts with Jerry and Stephen Jones who blame the HC or blame the players but don't take blame for picking those same individuals. Insanity in its purist form.

We drafted Dak when we had Romo so I'm sure we'll draft a QB with Dak still on the team. Infact, on one of the Cowboys podcasts, they said they were planning to draft the QB that played for Commodes last week but they took him before us.
And Hurts was on the short list in the 2nd round of 2020

Eagles are the blueprint. Listen to “ The Break” from yesterday. Eagles move on from Wentz, flip their roster and now in Championship game. And won a SB with backup, give Rush a shot

Wrong.

It is all about scheme and coaching.

The Niners schemed to make it very easy for Purdy.

You have to watch the All-22 to really see it.
- Consistently multiple receiving options open vs Cowboys with bare 1 open receiving option per snap.

The also have more talent at the offensive skill positions.

I don't think Dak would last under Kyle Shanahan.
I could play QB in Shanahan's scheme.

Before each plays he tells Purdy the exact receiver and location on the field where he will get open.
- Then reminds him to pretend that he is looking in another direction initially.
- Purdy's option if the receiver is not open when/where planned is to throw to the checkdown or throw it away.

It's their player philosophy. They bring in athletic guys with measurables who are tough, physically.
