Is it me or was greg Ellis

When you're hitting Ware with a back and a TE before he even gets to engage the offensive tackle, he's gonna have a rough game. He still made his presence felt, he just didn't finish. I've never seen anyone treat any pass rusher like Philly treated Ware last night. They were terrified of him.

That said, Ellis was clutch. Getting Spencer early reps turned out to be a great move.

Yes, getting Spencer into the rotation helped.

Ware was asked to do a lot of twists and stunts this game. Seemed like he was doing more than in past games. They probably wanted him more toward the middle of the field in case McNabb tucked and ran. Ware played a very good game.

I called that earlier in the week, tbh. We bring that kind of pressure alot more against Philly. Unfortunately their offensive line was brilliant.

It cracks me up when people think an elite pass rusher is just going to get single blocked and wreak havoc every single game. Ware was the only reason Ratliff and Ellis got their sacks in this game. If D-Ware is not in the game, we would have gotten beaten so badly it's unreal.

Last time I checked Ware has 2 sacks after two games, having gone against Pro Bowl left tackles and facing chip blocks and everything else.

Honestly, Ware's sack was one of the most awesome plays from last night. We needed it to seal the game, and he comes back up off the ground and makes that play. Ridiculous....

They need to play Spencer quick..

Greg Ellis' only sacks came against a tight-end and a play where he had one-on-one against the OL.

Nobody played special besides Ware, with the exception Ratliff here and there...

BTW, Canty was non-existent...

I rewatched a fair amount of the game last night and Ware was chipped at the line a lot by either the TE or Westbrook.

Ware has to really learn how to use his hands.

Ware didn't spend much time in the off season working on using his hands. If you watched Hard Knocks you would know that he worked mainly on his head, shoulders, knees and toes :)

No, it isn't. Ware was dominated most of the game, while Ellis not only got 2 sacks, but was held constantly by Runyan.

Props to Ellis. Ware's the better player, but he wasn't last night.

ok, whatever man

I think Ware probably was garnering a little more attention than Ellis was. Nothing against Ellis, who played very well in the game.

Ellis is now a wiley cagey veteran who knows how to make adjustments to get sacks. I'm glad he's still on our team. Demarcus has to be specifically accounted for on every play.

For the record, I just went back and rewatched all of the snaps Ware was involved in rushing the passer.

I'll spare you all the details unless you want me to post them, I do have them saved and could copy and paste it, but only if you're interested.

What I came away with was this. In the 1st half, Ware was either double teamed, chipped (and when I say chipped, I mean they held the block for like 2 secs before releasing into the route) or Ware was in coverage.

I came away thinking this. Spencer has got to start over Ellis, I don't recall Spencer rushing the passer even once. Ellis does nothing on the other side except every once in a while. All of the attention is put on Ware, who moves from side to side, and Ware spends too much time in coverage for my taste.

Please Wade, get Spencer in the game more even if it means hurting Ellis' feelings, because the one sack Ellis got was because a TE was blocking him, and the other was a coverage sack, but Ellis did not take on a double team but once.

And i'm starting not to like the 3-4, because I want my best pass rushers getting after the QB every time he goes back for a pass, and at least 13 times, Ware was in coverage.

We have to get Ware in coverage sometimes for 2 reasons:

1. He's the best pass coverage LB on the team.

2. If all we did was rush him every play, we wouldn't be a 3-4 defense, we'd be a 4-3 with a stand up DE. If we rushed him every play, it would be easier to game plan our defense.

This is true running the 3-4, but we need Spencer badly, because Ellis just doesn't bring it enough, and if Tank played yesterday, I missed it.

I agree about Spencer. I just hope he actually lives up to the hype.

Tank played... but he didn't play very well.

i dont have any numbers but seems like i saw ellis lined up over the slot receiver a number of times, not sure if that was shown on the TV or not,
just my impression watching it live.

cant we just be happy that we have ware AND ellis, with spencer to boot ??

its gonna take the whole team to get where we wanna go

I like Ellis. The problem is, if you're going to chip and double team Ware even when he moves to the other side, then the other guys have to do SOMETHING! And Ellis is good, but we need better than good over there and if Spencer has it, let's see what he can do.

One thing to keep in mind is that the job of the defense is not always to sack the quarterback. It's possible that on some of the plays where Ware went wide and stayed wide, it was his responsibility to contain McNabb on that side. If he was supposed to contain him it usually means there is very little help if he loses containment.

We all love seeing Ware get sacks, but sometimes his containment sets up players on the other side like Ellis to have big games. This is a very good defensive strategy especially if they are double-teaming Ware often.

It's just like when a running back chips a rusher then goes out for a screen pass. Your first thought is, "Wow! He needs to learn to block." and then your next though is, "Wow! Great play call."

Excellent point. Especially after McFlabb started going Fran Tarkenton on us.

Playing at a higher level then Demarcus Ware. Now dont get all mad about this either it's just my opinion on this Game.

Ellis looked like He was always putting pressure. Ware seemed to me like He was dancing around way to much and not really doing anything. Ellis was much more effective. Thank god Ellis is still here:starspin

It's already been covered, but it wasn't just you. Ware was playing hard against multiple blocks almost every snap, and Ellis made a few good moves to take advantage of the attention. McNabb did have a ton of time, though. Mostly because his OL is a bunch of animals and they're really well coached.

One thing to note, though, they didn't wear our DL down. Rather, it was the other way around. I'd be willing to bet the Eagles OL will be saying we were their most physical test by the end of the year, like the Giants did last year.
