Is it too early to predict starting lineups?

I think a few people may be unaware of just how into Hayden the team is. My bet is that in base D, Hayden would still be the starter.

There's a long way to go before the starting lineups are set. Injuries and who steps up will also impact that, as always.
I could easily picture Bernie stepping in for Leary.

i think bernie and leary will compete for one spot. i don't think lawrence will start but be more of a sitautional pass rusher, atleast early on. the lb spot is hard to tell. i think thats the way they are leaning but someone may step up and change that during camp

I'll just play it safe. I'll go with the base 12 offense and the base 4-3 defense.

Offense:

QB Romo
WRs Bryant, Williams
TEs Witten, Escobar
HB Murray
LT Smith
LG Leary
OC Frederick
RG Martin
RT Free

Defense:

WDE Lawrence
3DT Melton
1DT McClain
SDE Crawford
WLB Carter
MLB Durant
SLB Wilber
CBs Carr, Claiborne
FS Wilcox
SS Church

That's probably close, barring injuries.

Assuming one more year in the defensive scheme, added personell form injury return, FA, and draft... plus adjustments with CB coverage style, I think this group is better than what we ended the season with last year.

The oline should be even better still, and I bet the OC will at least mix things up some.
So...I think we are better on both sides of the ball.

No idea what that mean in the win column though.

I'll take that bet on the condition that McClain and Melton are both physicaly ready to go in game one.

That looks pretty accurate based on what we know right now (although Selvie probably at least splits time at one DE spot). I would think, though, that Scandrick starts over Claiborne at this point. Scandrick has earned it based on his play last season, so Claiborne is going to have to look like a world-beater to take the spot back.

I think Holloman will start over Wilber on the strong side and I'm not sure Lawrence will start day 1 anywhere besides nickel.

I think Dallas feels pretty good about Wilber, which is one reason Durant was initially moved to the weak side to compete with Carter. Not really sure how the Cowboys feel about Holloman at SLB. They got a better look at him in action at MLB last season.

WLB Carter
MLB Durant - I am not sue which but I think there will be at least one different starting LBer
SLB Wilber
CBs Carr, Claiborne - I'd bet Scandrick the starter over Claiborne in base set, moves inside in the nickle
FS Wilcox
SS Church

It would not surprise me for him to be in there on obvious run downs. I think we'll see such a rotation at some of the line spots, especially the 1-tech, that it won't matter who the starter is.

Probably the line starters need to projected like this:

WDE Selvie/Lawrence/Mincey

3-tech Melton/Okoye/Bass

1-tech Hayden/McClain/Bishop (and Crawford here in pure pass-rushing situations)

SDE Crawford/Spencer/Gardner

That's 12 linemen, so at least two will likely have to go.

Then, we've also got Davon Coleman looking like he might have something and Caesar Rayford trying to prove he deserves a spot (along with Martez Wilson). Lots of bodies to try to find a few studs and create waves of attacks.

If I had to predict, I'd think Dallas ends up considering Bishop and Gardner for practice squad spots if Okoye returns to form and Spencer doesn't start the season on PUP.

How are you supposed to get experience if you have a team who is affraid to play inexperienced people.Never understood this perception from fans.

Goose Gosselin was talking about this with Norm Hitzges this morning. How are they to improve as a young team if they don't allow them to play.
Said look at Jimmy Johnson, they played all their draft picks, and in a short time were competing in the playoffs, then winning SB's.
But then again, Jimmy had no choice but to play all the draft picks. But thought is still the same with this years defense.

Those predicting Claiborne over Scandrick, how do you suppose this happens? Are they giving him the starting job because of his draft status? I just don't see Claiborne beating out Scandrick.

I think Claiborne can beat OScan out but don't think he will. What's more important is to have 3 starting quality CBs and some depth behind it.

It's not that hard to understand that you can easily play the guy, but just don't start him in the same area as another inexperienced guy. Basically if you start Lawrence/Carter on one side why not start Selvie/Wilber on the other? Dude still gets to play and gain experience by playing with a veteran instead of a guy who's missed most of two seasons (Crawford).

Rookies will burn you. You introduce them slowly but they put them on the field more quickly now. Hard to bring them along as slow as before.

I'm really hoping either Holloman or Hitchens proves themselves to start at the MLB spot. I don't, however, see Lawrence starting right away, but I hope I'm wrong.

If Crawford beats out Selvie to start they should bench the better player because of Wilber?
