Heath has gotten better each year IMO, Dallas should give him a chance to start at SS.

The guy has some quickness and strength. 6'1" 210lbs.... 4.40 in the 40 yard dash....10' broad jump and 22 reps on the bench press and a 37" vertical. I had no idea he was that athletic. He has 2 forced fumbles and 4 picks in what little play he's seen. He's also a devastating hitter. He's 25 years old so he's still a young guy. I think anyone would admit that even with his limited playing time he makes plays. Are the Cowboys considering starting him? I think he would do fine, or at least give him a chance and see what happens.

Yes, our only dB last year that made plays on the ball.

With only 10 games started (9 his rookie year), he has 7 pass deflections, 4 INTs, and 2 FF. I actually think he is a safety that will fit Rod's defense well.

Heath gets a lot of crap for that Peterson highlight play where he bulldozed Heath and other Cowboys into the end zone. Not really fair, Peterson is just a beast and has done similar things throughout his career.

I would like to see more competition brought in and Heath giving the chance to compete for a starting spot.

He couldn't beat out a declining Barry Church or an underachieving JJ Wilcox, so I would say no.

Heath is more athletic than Church or Wilcox, one of whom he'll very likely be replacing. Looking for them to draft a safety also.

Heath's pro day numbers (NFL Draft Scout).....

40: 4.48
Bench: 22 reps
Vertical: 37"
Broad Jump: 10'06"
20 yd shuttle: 4.36
3-cone: 6.88

Kavon Frazier also has solid athleticism, though not sure how the team feels about him.

Frazier's pro day numbers (NFL Draft Scout).....

40: 4.58
Bench: 18 reps
Vertical: 40.5"
Broad Jump: 10'08"
20 yd shuttle: 4.40
3-cone: 6.88

I don't think he will be worse than what we had and his potential is higher IMO. We needed a change at safety and only time will tell. It would be nice to have a veteran next to him but at least a promising rookie.

For those who might not remember, Jeff Heath and JJ Wilcox both joined the team in 2013. Heath was undrafted and Wilcox was drafted in the 3rd, but Heath ended up being the starting safety for the majority of the season. I know Wilcox was drafted as a project, but it's still at least a bit surprising that Heath was trusted more as a rookie. I think a lot of people still have a bad taste in their mouths from that season. I believe that was the season we had the worst rated pass defense in franchise history. But Heath was likely better back then and seems to have improved more than Wilcox.

So white guys playing Safety are now seen as black guys playing QB in the pre-80s?

Is Heath on par with the freakishly tall white guy that gets drafted in the NBA but looks
like your baby sister when trying to take a shot?

I think he can play a little. He's better than Wilcox. Risen Star condemning him almost
assuredly puts Heath on the cusp of a pro bowl appearance.

As if he could do worse than Wilcox.

He's had a couple years to sit and learn. If he can't play, Landry rule kicks in. 3 years, goodbye.

We will have to see after the draft what role he will have. He may be the starter, he may be a subpackage safety like Wilcox was last year. Either way, he will get a lot of snaps

I agree. He's gonna see a heavy amount of snaps whether he starts the game or not. Hopefully he's up for the challenge. Frazier also needs to be ready.
