Is Jeff Heath starting material?

I think Heath is starting FS material, but not starting SS material. As such, unless part of their winter plan is to move Byron back to CB, then Heath probably is not a starter.

However, for those saying he doesn't make plays, over the past two seasons he's far more opportunistic than our other two safeties when you normalize his stats by snaps played...

Heath: 4 TO, 4 PD, 28 tackles in 449 snaps ==> TO per 112 snaps, PD per 112 snaps, tackle per 16 snaps
Church: 4 TO, 4 PD, 136 tackles in 1536 snaps ==> TO per 384 snaps, PD per 384 snaps, tackle per 11 snaps
Jones: 2 TO, 10 PD, 114 tackles in 1853 snaps ==> TO per 926 snaps, PD per 185 snaps, tackle per 16 snaps

The guy has some quickness and strength. 6'1" 210lbs.... 4.40 in the 40 yard dash....10' broad jump and 22 reps on the bench press and a 37" vertical. I had no idea he was that athletic. He has 2 forced fumbles and 4 picks in what little play he's seen. He's also a devastating hitter. He's 25 years old so he's still a young guy. I think anyone would admit that even with his limited playing time he makes plays. Are the Cowboys considering starting him? I think he would do fine, or at least give him a chance and see what happens.
I doubt it, he's a hard worker who can step in on defense and he plays hard and smart, that's big. I wouldn't be comfortable starting him every week...but I'm no scout or talent evaluator, so maybe? He's valuable as depth and on special teams, though...I think he proved that last year. I like the guy.

Yes, that's why there was such a huge market for "top 10 CB" Morris Claiborne in free agency. I think Heath should have played more last year, not necessarily start, but played more. At least other teams thought the guys ahead of him were good players and were scooped up relatively quickly. Meanwhile, the guy you're touting as all world is sitting on a couch.

LOL......dont over exagerate what I say pal. I said that "when healthy Claiborne played great". That is a fact. And PFF had him graded out during that time as top 10 CB play. Are you claiming he played poorly when he was healthy last year?

So yah, I would take a flyer on him for another one year contract at a few million a year. Just like last year. Wouldnt sign him long term and wouldnt pay big money.

Heath has been a special teams player and could never crack the starting lineup. Now that all our safeties are gone all of a sudden homers are coming out of the woodwork claiming that Heath can be good. No one has EVER talked about Heath before now. Hes not starter quality. Its that simple. If he was he would have beaten out scrubs like Wilcox by now.

The one thing that can't be denied is in his limited playing time he's produced some picks. On the other hand, when he is in the game teams go right at him almost immediately.

LOL.... you called Claiborne all world and he's currently unemployed. Yet it's crazy for me to think that Heath can be a starter based on how he's played in a limited role.

If your going to lie, then its obvious to me that your not interested in doing anything but being a troll.

But I will leave you with this last this little tid bit to further blow your laughable stances on both Claiborne and Heath completely out of the water. Enjoy!!!!

Pick 60: Cowboys select Josh Jones, SS, NC State (CBS 60th, DraftTek 132nd)

Dallas wants you to believe that they have all the confidence in the world in Jeff Heath. The truth is that he’s really improved over his time in Dallas but the more he’s exposed, the more of a liability he becomes. Dallas needs to open up the battlefield at strong safety.

"Claiborne was having a spectacular season and starting to make plays on the ball, but he suffered another injury," Scales said in a live chat. "I really like Mo, but he hasn't shown that he can be reliable. I want a starter that I can count on. Then again, I drive a Prius, not a BMW. For many of us (especially coaches), dependability is just as important as ability."

Its also noted that the Ravens have offered him 5 million a year and he is holding out for 7.5 million.

ENJOY!!!

And what did I lie about? Did you call Claiborne all world? Yes. Did I say that Heath makes plays? Yes. Is that true? Yes. Can he be a starter? Who knows?
