Is Jerry Coming Around to the Idea of Zeke Spelling Pollard?

I keep reading articles like this about Jerry talking about the fortunate situation we have with Zeke and Pollard. No, I'm not calling this a debate. Anyone in the know actually knows these are both very good backs for different reasons, and different situations.

The way I see it, Zeke would be in on passing downs more when blocking is important and we can still find situations for him to help us with, but Pollard should start the game and be the center of attention when we start the game. I think Pollard helps you wear the defense down earlier on more than Zeke. While I think Zeke's numbers would actually increase if he let Pollard open things up for him a little bit.

Just my two cents. I know Zeke will play. That's a given. I just think Zeke will be more effective playing after Pollard as played some.

I expect everything to be the same next week. Both RB's in the same roles as before.

Not what I would do. Just what I think Big Mike will do.

I think it will depend on the team.

I think we'll be starting Pollard against the better teams.

Zeke is likely a little banged up. But he'll still carry a lot of the load, because we have a lot of games left and need to keep Pollard healthy for the playoffs.

Zeke, too, for that matter.

I still want Zeke on 1st and goal situations, especially later in the game. Places like that. Other situations. But they should definitely be splitting more carries Pollard's way when it comes to playing the Eagles and Giants.

We want to force teams to pass on us, because that's our bread and butter. That's what we thought we were doing to Chicago, and then they ran on us. lol

I know this much, if I’m Pollard I would tell Skip Peete to keep his mouth shut.

Pollard is about to hit free agency and doesn’t need his RB coach putting out his thoughts about him in the ether.

He played the whole game. It only makes sense for him to have been winded. Happens to all backs. Happened to Emmitt. He was winded and still scored. I think that's what he was saying, but I guess it boils down to what you glean from his comments.

If it's 3rd and 4 maybe, if it's more then that throwing to him is not an option. He's horrible receiving the ball and what he does after he catches it.

You'd have to ask McCarthy and Moore.

Your people totally have it backwards. You pound the ball, and then you give it to Tony Pollard when the defense is beat up.

Giving the ball to Pollard first. Makes no sense to me. You got to give it to the sledgehammer let them break down the defense for a while. That’s when. Slash Will be at his best. Especially against the big boys

Zeke is NOT a very good back. He is AVERAGE at BEST. All his averages and metrics show that. Anyone who watched the Houston/Eagles game on Thursday saw a great back in Pierce for Houston. THAT is how Zeke used to be. Not anymore. Zeke is a shadow of himself. Robbed of any speed or cutting ability he used to have. 9 total missed tackles all of last season should tell you all you need to know.

ONLY reason we need both guys is because Pollard is not a full load RB. 15 carries and 3 or 4 receptions is the safe zone for him. So we dont need Zeke, we just need another back to share the load. Our practice squad guy did just fine last week. Im sure given more time he will do even better.

The myth that Pollard needs zeke to wear down the D or soften them up has been busted. Pollard needs nothing from Zeke other than a few carries here and there or to take over the duties in a blowout. And heck, we dont even need Zeke, just some other back to take on some carries. And we certainly dont need to pay 18 million for that.

I do agree that Zeke might do better if he comes in later in the game once the defense is tired or we have a big lead. Let him finish the games. Pollard clearly needs to begin games in order to vault the offense to a lead. Offense without a doubt has an extra gear when Pollard is the back. With Zeke in early we often stall out early.

I never liked Elliot either. I never would’ve drafted him. But I understand his value.

His value is minimal. Some pass blocking, some short yardage and GL stuff. Thats about it. 10-12 carries a game. Pollard should get his 15 carries and Zeke or any other back can have the rest.
Nobody else can wear down a Defense Lake Elliott. That’s why Pollard has been having such a great second half. We definitely need him in there. To see he’s useless is ridiculous buy some of these posters

Then you obviously dont watch other teams play. Zeke no longer wears down anyone. 4 ypc and punts dont wear down defenses. And you can see quite clearly that Pollard does just fine on his own.

He isnt useless, he just no longer anything special. And his salary makes him obsolete. Many many backs can be short yardage types that can average 4 ypc.

Agree.......for whatever reason, our offense has always started slow but you could see a different tempo with Pollard. I'm not sure many remember MM expectation of his offense from the first presser after he was hired and it was very similar to what you are saying here. He wanted a fast-scoring offense to take control of game and turn it over to his DLine. The only difference is we did it last week with 2 Wrs, 3 TEs, and Pollard instead of the primary 3 WR set from the last couple of years.

The offense stalls early in games when we try to establish the run early and it doesnt work. Part of that is Zeke. Some of it last year was the bad oline play 2nd half of last year.

Rush was certainly a part of that as well early in this season.

They are spelling each other. The goal is a total of just under 30 carries per game. Pollard is never going to get more than 14 carries. That's been proven where he peaks out, performance-wise.
