Is Jerry Jones Losing Confidence?

Too bad we don't handle our business against winless/one win teams, like the Seahawks :)

When you're 7-1 and squeak one out against a horrible team, the talk is whether you overlooked the opponent. But when you;re 4-4 and squeak one out, naturally the discussion is going to be different. Mainly asking if the team is any good.

Well in fairness, teams do rise up when they play the Cowboys. But who knows if that's what Jerry even meant?

That's exactly what I thought he meant too. And he has a point. When these teams see the Cowboys on their calendars they circle that game.

You can't tell me you think the Vikings would've been as focused during the week and would've played as hard as they did today if they were facing, say, the Cardinals instead of the Cowboys.

Yeah and not to mention Seattle had just played in St. Louis on Monday night and had a short week...

Figuring out what Jerry means when he's sober is almost impossible.

He probably makes more sense when he's ripped.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he saw the season flash before his eyes when the going got particularly rough Sunday.

“Every time we (had) a turnover or a three-and-out, I would get a glimpse of that,” Jones said. “I really do, and that’s not good. I’m glad I’m not trying to pull the trigger out there, being one of those players.

I would be very interested in learning just what is Jones' metric for success this year. Can it even be contrived, contemplated, collated or cogently presented?

I'm not drunk like Jerry usually is but I had to read your post about 3 times to figure it out.

I'm blaming the time change.

Jones is hard to figure out what he is thinking. If I had to guess, and it's just a guess,I would say a playoff appearance would be a success for him.Even a 7-9,8-8 playoff appearance would do the trick.

It’s a pity he wasn’t loosing confidence in himself.

Then he might hire a proper GM.

Do you really believe that teams now days target the Dallas game as being anymore important than their other games?

Do you really believe that the Vikes saw this game as a bigger game than the game against div rival Packers where they played awful?

The whole concept that teams consider playing Dallas as some special thing is foolish and is just a myth that some fans still living in the 90's can't let go of.

I thinks it's more of a case of a terribly inconsistent Cowboys team that elevates the play of these bad teams by playing poorly themselves.

I'm not saying the 27-23 result was purely a result of the Vikings' desire to knock off America's Team as we did shoot ourselves in the foot plenty of times yesterday.

But I'll bet you either live in Texas or don't spend much time talking to fans of other teams. The Cowboys are just as polarizing as ever. We're still the team NFL fans either love or love to hate.

That being said, yes, I do believe the Vikings PLAYERS (who have no personal ties to Minnesota or the rivalry with Green Bay) would see the Cowboys as a "bigger game" than the Packers. Especially since making the playoffs is out of the question for them.

Let me put it to you this way: there's a lot more NFL players from the south than there are from the midwest, right? So based on that alone, doesn't it stand to reason that a lot of these Vikings players grew up caring much more about the Dallas Cowboys than the Green Bay Packers? I bet if you polled these guys, a lot of them either grew up as Cowboys fans or hated the Cowboys. But they probably were indifferent towards the Packers/Cardinals/Bucs until they got to Minnesota/San Francisco/Carolina and were told to start disliking them.

Heck, we all saw how many people Adrian Peterson had at the game. You don't think he wanted this one a tad more?

So, ol' JJ must have targeted this game as the "must win" game? Is that why the season flashed before his eyes? He is pathetic as a GM...I wish someone could somehow get it through his alcohol soaked brain that an actual GM that runs things just might allow him to sip his booze with a little more comfort...a real GM likely would have had a different direction for this team and perhaps, perhaps mind you, some of those close losses get turned into wins and then a game against one of the worst team in the NFL isn't a must win game for the GM/Owner

JJ needs to let someone else play with his shiny little money-making toy

“These guys play better than 1-7 when we play them.”

LOL

I'm sure Seattle was thinking same thing when they played against 0-7 Tampa Bay yesterday and it took them OT to beat them.

If the other team is 1-7, you can't claim a moral victory. Jerry was just covering his bases in case Minnesota won.

Dose of reality here. Whatever mystique this team may have had back in the day is long gone.

As Hoofbite says, JG's offensive team plays to the level of its opponent the majority of the time. The defense, with its injuries is just trying to survive week to week, but grabs a turnover hear and there to help out the cause.
