I've followed Rascati for the past 3 years my friend. He'll land in the NFL...probably as a FA. He's somewhat similar to Romo.

Actually, that's the comparison I'd make too... for some reason, the word "moxie" comes to mind... LOL...

Where abouts you hail from around Harrisonburg MightyBear? Weyers Cave? Verona? New Market?

Got a New Market mailing address, and a Mount Jackson phone number... I'm about midway between the two, about 3 miles up Moreland Gap Road once you turn off of Route 11 (the Old Valley Pike), back in the woods... you'd want to take the Shenandoah Caverns exit off of I-81...

Way back when I was a young cub, my first apartment was actually in Harrisonburg... I remember playing basketball in JMU's old field house, right there beside the football stadium... some nights, the games I got into included one Sherman Dillard, who was at the time the star of the Dukes' basketball team, and later was the head coach of that program... this was back when Ralph Sampson was playing high school ball, saw him play in the state regionals at that same field house-- I wanna say they called it Godwin Hall (it was a long time ago)...

Only time I was ever in that beautiful new field house they have was for a Randy Travis concert...

This was back in my assistant pro days, I worked at both Shenvalee and Bryce Resort... ever been back to the ski resort there at Bryce??

As you can see I know the Valley area like the back of my hand.

So it would appear... it's a great area, if I can't live out in southwest Texas (I do love the desert), then the Valley will do as a second choice...

As a former JMU student, and a current Harrisonburg resident, I've been unlucky enough to have been witness to nearly every JMU game in the past ten years. In that time I've seen one player with the ability to secure a career in the NFL...Macey Brooks was drafted by own own beloved Cowboys in the fourth round of the 1997? draft (IIRC). He was a man among boys at JMU...and his transition to the NFL was very slow. A broken leg essentially ended any hopes of him sticking it out. Unfortunate.

I like Rascati, don't get me wrong, but he doesn't have the talent to make it in the NFL IMO. JMU has had a very good TEAM for the past three seasons (a team good enough to elevate the stock of its QB), but thats at a level that I could have played at (i.e. not very good). His transition to the NFL would be near impossible. I'm not saying there aren't DivI AA players out there that can become good NFL players, as history has clearly proven, but that those select few tend to contrast sharply to the talent surrounding them. Occasionaly you can fid those late bloomers as well...see Demarcus Ware. But...

As a JMU fan (purely through association as I despise the school colors enough to revolt), I hope he gets picked up by someone whether it be via the draft or UFA. As a cowboys fan, I hope its not us that does so.

Don't forget my friend that our beloved Charles Haley was a JMU grad (as was Gary Clark who had a successful career with the Commanders),

I know...and they, like the example I provided within the last ten years, stood out against their peers. IMO, Rascati does not.

I have a completely restored ole farmhouse in Luray that I frequest often. My family roots go back to the area back into the 1700's. Beautiful country. Was up at Bryce for Thanksgiving as a matter of fact.
Godwin Hall is the name of the field house you are referring to. Dillard was great as was Steve Steepler (sp?) and George Tolliver. There was a lot of wishful thinking by JMU students back then that Sampson would decide to stay in the Burg as opposed to going to UVA.

I tend to agree with you, but time will tell. Rascati is one of those guys who finds a way to win (like Romo). If the kid was given a shot, he just might be able to pull it off.

True. Stranger things have happened, but I'd still prefer to take a late rounder that either has all of the measurables, or has proven himself against elite competition.

Look for someone like Romo... Someone that has dominated a lower level of competition.

What this unnamed QB would need would be a high completion percentage with a big positive difference between TD's and picks.

Well, we know your OPINION; now, got any FACTS to back it up??

I offered you the documentation of how I came to my opinion of his draft worth...

You should probably be rooting for me to be right, 'cause there ain't a chance in Hades the Boys will draft a quarterback on the first day...

Count on it...
Informed & researched opinion. You're welcome. LOL. We may well burn a pick EARLYISH on Beck. We shall see.

And Macey Brooks... the guy from whom I learned the concept of testicular torsion...

Which I could have gone the rest of my natural life without ever learning about... LOL...

It's hard to stand out too much when your team only throws 18 times a game...

I used to live there on the mountain, it was probably the most decadent, degenerate time of my life... put most of the gray in my hair, LOL...

The day Ralph signed with the Hoos, I was shooting hoops out behind Mount Jackson Elementary School (now the Rescue Squad's headquarters), with my car's radio going... I had become a big UVa fan during the Barry Parkhill years, so I was thrilled that he chose the Cavs... his years in Charlottesville were the best that basketball program ever got...

Another Virginian to watch develop is Lang Campbell, a grad of William and Mary a couple of years ago. He's already been drafted by the Browns I believe. Lots of talent.

Hey, if you follow Moreland Gap Road up past my house a few miles, you go up over a ridge and come down in Luray... it's probably not more than 10-15 miles from my doorstep... just before you go over that ridge, there's a road and if you turn left, you'll come out in Fort Valley...

I'm told that Moreland Gap Road was one of the "escape routes" that Stonewall Jackson used to elude the North during his Valley Campaign... they didn't know about that road, and he'd disappear on them, to reappear up by Fort Valley, behind the enemy... my house was built in 1971, but it's neat to imagine that at one time, Confederate soldiers marched right past where that house now stands... they probably filled their canteens from the creek that runs directly under my back porch...

The nearest church is like 2 miles away, and served as a Union hospital during the battle of New Market...

BTW, if you've never been over for the annual reenactment of that battle, you should make an effort to get over for it some time... it's held on the second Sunday in May every year (as was the original battle), and is quite the spectacle... I'm told that it's the only reenactment that's held on the actual battlefield where the worst of the fighting took place, an area known since then as the Field of Lost Shoes...

The origin of that name comes from the kids from the VMI Corps of Cadets, 15 and 16 years old, who were marched up from Lexington overnight and thrown into the battle at its fiercest, ultimately turning the tide for the South in that battle... the battle was fought in a driving rainstorm, it had been raining for some days (which is not uncommon in these parts that time of the year, it's amusing how often the reenactments get rained on)... the kids had been issued regulation Confederate uniforms, including the boots, and they didn't fit real well... so legend has it that the mud sucked the boots right off of some of their feet, and that local farmers were turning up boots when they did their plowing even as late as the 1950s...

I actually took a part time job for some extra bucks one summer, making hay on that battlefield... never did see a boot, though... LOL...

Hmmm, sounds JUST like Rascati...

He won a national championship... that's pretty dominating...

He completed 66.6 per cent of his passes...

He threw 52 TDs, 18 picks...

His biggest problem is that JMU ran a very conservative, ball control offense... personally, if I had a passer as efficient as he was, I would have opened the offense up some, especially these last coupla years, which were disappointing for Dukes fans...

Umm...perhaps.

Actually, Romo was a standout at Eastern Illinois. Far more so than Rascati is a JMU...he is a very good player on a talented DivI AA team.

I'm not saying he can't play in the NFL. I'm saying the chances of him doing so are slimmer than that of say...a DivI QB that played against elite competition. If we're going to draft a relatively uknown DivIAA player, why not look for one that has better measurables? If its going to be a project, which Rascati would be a very long one, why not get someone that's a bit taller and has a bigger arm?

Living as close to JMU as you do, I'm sure you may have caught a few of the games on local TV. If you had, you would see that Rascati is not a vertical passer. His efficiency is a result of his tendency to pass within 10 yards of the LOS. Now, this may have been the result of Mickey Mathews' coaching and play calling, but it may not be as well.
