Is Martellus living up to the hype from preseason?

he isnt getting the attempts against a few teams in the preseason he was physically dominant against them . teams were not able to stop him from that regardless of his route running, jerry didnt trade him for picks at the deadline the way he didnt trade austin so we can only hope our scouting dept wants to wait on him..

... maybe we are going to really use him soon to get over our playoff month hump. Didn't Garrett say wait till December?

I think that he is being held back to block. The main goal is to give Romo time to throw. Look, you have 11 players. 5 OL. Possibly 3 receivers running routes. A QB and #1 TE. That leaves a RB and Second TE. If a team blitzes, who are the most likely to have to stay back for Blitz pickup? 2 TE sets are nice to have for creating balance confusion, but someone has to stay back to cover a blitz.

I'm trying to figure out why he wasn't on the field in that goal to go series right before half. Must not have thought he could help out there. Better to just run back to back slants to Roy.

A huge plus with Bennett is that he can make a significant contribution even when the ball isn't is in hands, as a fine blocker.

That's important, because there just aren't enough balls to go around on this offense.

I always thought our 2 X-factors on offense were Felix and Martellus. Let's see what the second half of our season has to offer.

I hope and expect big things.

... for this team to find it's true potential and make a deep run into the playoffs we need players like Martellus to contribute more than what he has been offering right now.

The more of a threat he is to defenses the more things will open up for the other players.

If he can get Garrett and Romo to call his name more and he converts his opportunities the more lethal this offense will be.

As people said, there are too many weapons on offense. Our offense doesnt really revolve around any one or even two players.

Here's the receiving stats through midseason:

RecYds Player
44 391 Jason Witten
27 612 Miles Austin
22 365 Patrick Crayton
19 324 Roy E. Williams
14 123 Tashard Choice
09 090 Martellus Bennett
09 077 Marion Barber
06 115 Sam Hurd
04 056 Felix Jones
03 057 Kevin Ogletree
01 005 Deon Anderson
01 000 John Phillips

Bennett's touches come from someone. Who exactly do you not want to get the ball right now?

Fewer passes to Witten? Fewer to Austin? Stop trying to establish Williams? Take even more touches away from Felix? Crayton is back to 3rd WR, so his catches are already headed south. Should Romo stop occasionally checking down to RBs Choice and Barber, and force it to Bennett instead?

And don't forget that many think that the Cowboys are passing too much as it is. ... and that Garrett should run it more. Should Garrett rush even less so he can throw more to Bennett?

Great post. There are only so many balls to go around.

Posters/fans scream at Garrett to get (fill in the blank) more touches. At whose expense?

Best 2nd year TE in the league blocking-wise. He will get there in the passing game with more experience. He personally has done everything and more to excel.

But we still have the "I've hated Bennett since High School" crowd on this board. And no matter what he does they will still hate.
