Is McCarthy on the hot seat this year?

Injuries including Daks devastating season ending pretty well saved our HC from being held directly accountable for a disappointing year.

Instead with a poor defensive year after several personnel moves losing starters to FA and signing others in FA , the personal moves and coaching schemes was a total failure. Hence a coaching change on defense.

Now that Dak has been signed and our franchise QB is secured our expectations should be back to where they were when we decided this team was under achieving with the base of talent they had.

It’s why we brought in a proven HC like McCarthy because we believed this team should be advancing further and expected to win now.

So, has anything changed ? Are our expectations still the same as last year ?

How do we measure whether McCarthy is getting the most out of the talent base we have . The talent we thought should be taking us further than it did in 2019 and 8-8.

Not at all....2020 was a mulligan for him, unfortunately with the limited offseason and then the corresponding extremely bad luck in injuries, he never really had a chance.

as long as he shows a positive trend this year he has at worst 3 years including this one

No unless they have another rough year and he loses the team.

He should be, imo.

There's no point in wasting time on him if he continues to make bone head decisions that costs us games.

This man couldn't win enough games with Aaron Rodgers as his QB to keep his job. So, why wait?

Also, I just wish Jerry would hire a big name college coach instead of these old timers that have been passed around the league. The last time the doofus in charge hired a big time college coach he started a dynasty.

I went into last season with fairly high expectation and that has not changed, Injuries were devastating last season as we saw 4 of the 5 starting OL go down. Defense I knew would struggle but not to the level they did. So heading into this upcoming season I still see the talent on offense both in passing game and running game to contend. Defensively I think the Cowboys at the very least go back to a defensive system they are more comfortable in but we have lost some people in FA, how these new FA pan out and how much Dallas can do in the draft on defense will go a long way in how far this team can go.

To a point, for sure. That doesn’t mean super bowl or bust. But you cannot have another dumpster fire season. You will not get a free pass due to covid or injuries. Find a way to be competitive and be a real playoff contending team at years end. And being a 7-10 team in a crap division does not equate real playoff contender. Win 9 games minimum or I’d have to be looking into upgrades.

Gotta see what happens first. Pretty easy to analyze the job a coach does once the season is unfolding.

2020
Draft=A
FA=D, but I did like the positions they tried to address, safety, DT.
Season=Kinda of an NA? Some of his in game decisions early in the year were horrid. The 2nd half of the year, although I hated it, I thought the team rallied some and didn't give up.

But put it this way..............if the Cowboys stay relatively healthy and we have another 8-8 season or worse, then he is definitely on the hot seat.

I don't see how he isn't....
Last year was some of the worst coaching decisions I've ever seen. That's saying a lot coming from a fan of over 40 years of football.

JG had a decade of sitting on the same seat, there is zero chance MM is in trouble no matter how bad we are

All I can speculate on BM.. not bowel movement you sick pervs,, Big Mike..lol...
All I can speculate on BM is that he was given a golden opportunity and then the world went sideways,, for everyone not just BM, so there are no tears,, just a bit of patience is all.
I dont want to even entertain BMs removal...lol,, sick pervs...lol... lets just chill out a little and see how BM adjusts with the one year of accountability and the rather unique 10 and 10 he has
on his plate.

Last year was a mess so I count this year as 1 really. BUT if there are more in game gaffes and regression happens with a healthy team then I think the hot seat comes into play. If we look solid, improvements and consistency happen, then it’s a no brainer he’s here 2022 and is allowed to build off it. That’s what I expect

Based on his total lack of decision making at critical points in games I'd say yes. Plus Jerry believes he has the next great coach in waiting so short leash for MM.

Not really. Last year was an odd year, and devastated by injuries to half the starting players and then to the back ups.
Yes there were some bone headed decisions. But look around the NFL, others made poor choices at times also. Including Brees and Rodgers teams.

I think MM felt he had to try something different and they failed, but look at ones that worked as well. With Morre calling all the weird plays in one game that worked, but did not in others.

I think this year will be looked at as MM's 1st year to impress. So he still gets 2 to 3 years. At least 2 years.
And last year was a 16 game PS game schedule.

No. This organization does not function like most NFL teams. If winning was THE only goal that mattered, things might be different. But unfortunately, this owner sees winning as A goal, not THE goal.

Big Mac might be in trouble if the team has another poor season, but even then I doubt he would. Just look at the Garrett years. JJ kept Jason Garrett for a decade, despite only making the playoffs 3 times. The main goal with head coaches for Jerry is his own comfort.

Yeah, that’s the one thing that doesn’t matter who was on the roster, his in game decisions. I was never fond of him as a HC and remember several games when he was with GB that he made some very questionable or straight dumb in game decisions and strategies. The 2016 playoff game vs us comes immediately to mind. He was destroying us in the first half and botched the second half so bad by being conservative that if it weren’t for Aaron Rodgers literally drawing up a play on his hand in the huddle on 3rd down, followed by Crosby’s ~55 yard FG kick, then we may have very well won that game.

Last year he did absolutely nothing to alleviate my concerns, there were several times he made piss poor decisions during the game and it wouldn’t have mattered who we had out there. Plus smashing fruit to get grown men pumped up before a game is just dumb. If I were a player I would be on the floor laughing, not getting mentally ready to destroy my enemy.

If Jason Garrett was NEVER on the hot seat, how can McCarthy be? Jerry didn't even fire JG, he just didn't re-sign him. Sheesh.
