Is our opening even attractive anymore?

Knowing you have a owner that won't let you do what you need to build a winning program, how is it that these men are going through the interview process with an owner who wants all the spotlight and attention on him!?? Please give your thoughts

Dallas HC position is still attractive for coaches with limited options. The top tier coaches would not touch the Dallas front office with a 10ft pole.

But a retread or 1st time HC candidate will be the most attractive option for Darth Leatherface. Someone with a weak "yes man" mentality is the only type who can work under Jerrys thumb.

This is the Dallas paradox. A weak minded retread will not be innovative or have the mental acuity to accomplish a culture change in Dallas. A strong or innovative could bring real change and playoff success but they could not gel with Jerrys narcissistic personality which will only tolerate a puppet coach. Yet Dallas fans crave success which they will never achieve due to the paradox in the front office.

Coaching the richest, most famous, sports franchise on the planet will always have significant appeal.

It doesn’t matter. Jerry will get who he wants and that is all that really counts.

Double negative alert... there is no NFL HC job that isn't attractive. Only a handful in any given off-season, and too easy to have a down year the season immediately after you were a popular name, right Lou Anarumo? You take what you can get when you can get it. Just the only rational way to approach it.

Jerry can attract any coach he wants if he’s willing to pay enough money. He may have to pay a premium because of how he chooses to run his team, but every coaching candidate has a price.

IMO, the Cowboys job is extremely attractive. Why?

Well, if you are able to win a Super Bowl as the Dallas HC, you would be the one that turned around a, if not thee, flagship team of the NFL after nearly 30 of failure and mismanagement.

But if you fail to win in Dallas, pretty much everyone will blame the dysfunctional management of Jerry and family because they are the real issue with the Cowboys.

Just look at how the Bears are courting MM right now. Ya, he didn't win anything in Dallas, but he did have some success in an environment that doesn't make that very easy on any HC to have consistent success.

I may be wrong, but I think the HC position of the Dallas Cowboys is one of the most attractive positions in the NFL.

Not attractive enough for McCarthy to stay. If that was Jerry Jones’ choice the Cowboys will hire a better coach than McCarthy. Otherwise “extremely attractive“ would be an overstatement. I think the most attractive HC position is the one that pays the most. No one is coming to be the head coach in Dallas if they can get more money elsewhere.

In NFL coaching terms it’s a bad job.

You're stuck with a GM for life.
You have an owner who wants to be the face of the franchise so you will never be the final voice.
if you’re successful Jerry will take credit, if you aren’t you’ll take the blame.
Owner is stingy with the purse strings when it comes to paying the HC and staff. MM was told his staff was too big. You may not even have full say over the staff.
Top heavy roster with little depth
Pressure to win right now while having little say in player acquisition to get there.

It's an NFL job so obviously it’s attractive but if you have other options I don’t think it’s the situation you’d pick.

Do all NFL head coaches have to do their own half hour weekly TV show to discuss the team and game or is that just in Dallas? It’s a lot of PR work as they have to sell it and we haven’t bought if for almost 30 years.

Appealing YES in that it is an NFL coaching job and the money is great. There are only 32 of those jobs out there and a lot of guys wanting them.

Appealing NO because of the condition of the franchise and the FO. Very uphill battle finding a way to win and get to the top.

The luster is dimming on the Cowboy "bloom." The leaves are starting to wilt on that bloom. It is not nearly as appealing a job as it was a few years back. We Cowboy fans know they have the biggest fan base and bring in more revenue than anyone else but who really cares about all that? Certainly not the coaching candidates. They want first a HC job and second a good chance of winning and real success.

If a guy like Deion Sanders rather coach the Colorado Buffaloes then this job isn’t as attractive as people think. It’s a job opening with a meddling owner who is very cheap on top of it. It used to be an attractive position, but that’s long gone!

Every NFL coaching gig is extremely attractive due to the limited number of openings.

That said, Dallas is one of the least attractive spots. If you are a coach, ultimately what you want is simply another contract. If you come in to Dallas, you are set up to fail and then take the blame for it. That's a good way to drastically shorten your career.

Think about Pittsburgh versus Dallas. The Steelers set up their coaches for success and support them. If you are good, its practically a lifetime gig. Why would anyone choose Dallas over Pittsburgh if both positions were available?

Attractive, possibly just to a new young startup or an old has been. I mean, who would not want to coach the Cowboys. Oh that that’s right Jerry.
