Is Pettiti Starting in NO?

Sean Payton grabbed him as depth just in case. That is all. I wish we could have kept him- but with needing to keep two kickers and other concerns he was a luxury we could not afford. I STILL think he can be a good O lineman- if not at tackle then guard. BUt we just could not keep him here.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I don't think it had much to do with the extra kicker. We kept Miles Austin as a SIXTH receiver for chrissakes.

I wouldn't understand why anyone would not want him to do well.

I agree, as bad as he might have struggled he played his *** off and worked hard.

And played a huge role in flushing our 05 season down the toilet. Garbage in, garbage out.

I cannot understand why people would waste mental energy hoping he does.

He's gone.

And since he's gone, any success he has would note that the organization made a serious error in judgment.

So, let's all wish him well. That sounds like a smashing idea.

How many of you wish Ebenezer Ekuban good luck in Denver? Who shed a tear about Torrin Tucker being cut by Tampa?

I bet if either of these player's fathers had posted here, you might care more.

I do. I cheer emphatically for them while wearing my "Dat Dude" Jaguars jersey.

Ekuban's not really a good comparison. He never lived up to the expectation of a first round pick. Pettiti on the other hand far and away exceeded expectations for where he was picked. Say what you want about the guy, but he was a hard worker and likely played above his natural abilities. Can't ask for any more than that.

What is ludicrous is drafting a project player and only give him one year to develop.

Look, I loved the idea of Pettiti being a Dallas tackle for years to come, but face it - anyone that's a second day draft pick is a project player. These things happen for a reason. Obviously, there was something we didn't see.

Saints' starting tackles are Brown and Stinchcombe. Petitti and Strief are behind them. Brown was a 1st round 2005 choice, and he's struggling, too.
Rookie right guard Jahri Evans is worth watching.

you mean you expected somebody to actually do WORSE than what he did last yr? He led the league in sacks allowed and was a mediocre at best run blocker

Ekuban is a far better player than Pettiti will ever be

maybe it was obvious after one yr of starteing and another offseason/trainining camp that he was never going to develop

That's probably the truth. I think the organization was disappointed with the lack of progress with his technique. He was stronger, probably faster but the technique was still poor and wasn't seen as progressing as fast as what McQ was/is.
