That is the definition of a bust right there. I guess Marcus Mariota anf Blaine Gabbert are Bust Juniors or something.
JaMarcus Russell, Tim Couch, Ryan Leaf, Andre Ware, Akili Smith and the list goes on! You could write a book on all the first round QBs that went bust.

Decades ago you could win a Super Bowl with an average QB if you had a great running game and a great defense. Miami went to three straight Super Bowls in the early 70s winning two of them and Bob Griese who’s in the Hall of Fame hardly had to throw the football. During the Dolphins undefeated 1972 season, Griese only attempted 11 passes against Washington in the Super Bowl. He only attempted seven passes against Minnesota the following year in the Super Bowl. Being able to run the ball and play great defense took a lot of pressure off QBs back then.
This helped some average QBs like Jim McMahon win a Super Bowl. The way the rules are today you can’t win games by just running the ball and playing great defense. QBs passing numbers are inflated these days due to the many rule changes over the years that’s opened up the passing game. To win it all these days you have to have a damn good QB or at least one who can play damn good when it matters. Nick Foles was an average QB who won a Super Bowl but he played great in the Super Bowl.

No. A ton of excellent QBs never won a ring. Especially in days before Free agency started. I always thought Archie Manning was way better than all the teams he played for. Dandy Don Meredith deserved better. The old Baltimore Colts QB Bert Jones was really good but never had playoff success.
And a lot of average to above avg QBs have rings because they were part of an outstanding team. Guys like Phil Simms, Jeff Hostetler, Jim Plunkett, Mark Rypien, Joe Thiessman, Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson and more recently Nick Foles were not anything more than above average QBs IMO.
Winning a SB is certainly a great accomplishment for any QB. But it’s not everything.

Theisman played in 2 super Bowls and If I remember correctly led his team to the nfl scoring record for most points in a season. The guy that led his offense to more points than any team in the history of the nfl at that time was avg?
Dilfer and Johnson.... they had decent defenses. Comparing anything from the 90s and before to today is just foolish imo.

The problem with Joe Theismann was he was a flash in the pan. He was not able to maintain any consistency. He was good in 82 and 83 but he became very mistake prone by 84 and had the terrible leg break which pretty much ended his career.

No, but if we’re talking Cowboys he will always be rated behind Aikman and Staubach.
Some historically great defenses won Super Bowls for their teams. And some really good rushing offenses won Super Bowls. As others have stated, you don’t have to be a great QB to win a Super Bowl and not all great QBs win Super Bowls.
In today’s passing era, you don’t need a great QB to win it all, just a good QB.

Romo was a QB I thought could win the Super Bowl. I think 2007 was his best chance but TO rolled his ankle against Carolina that season and his high ankle sprain obviously limited him. Lot of bad breaks against the Giants. 14 I think they were good enough to win but we have the Dez no catch against Green Bay.

Danny was a solid quarterback but sometimes he would just absolutely have a crap game if it happened in the playoffs your run is over and yes it was on him. But then again some of his great games probably got you there in the 1st place.

Cue in Marino, Dandy Don ect. references. I don't care, lads, as I stated, QBs in general are considered busts if they don't win a championship.
