Something interesting that I watched just now on ESPN's "College Football Live" program. They were showing Case Keenum's (qb from Univ. of Houston) quick release. This was truly one of his strengths. It focused on two of his passes, where the clock begins when he starts to **** his arm back to throw. Each time he clocked in at .11 and .12 frames per second. It translates into roughly 1/3 of a second.

What was interesting was his comparison to Romo's quick release (who was referred as the quickest one in the NFL). They showed only one pass from Romo (I think it was against the Commanders) where he hit a 20 yard out to Austin. Romo clocked in at .11 fps.

I went back on my dvr and slowly played it back and noticed that they were .01 fps off. Romo actually clocked in at .10 fps.

Incredible.

I'd like to see how Romo's quick release would compare to Marino's (which was assumed to be the fastest ever).

Interesting nonetheless.

A few years ago, during one of the games there was a video comparison of Romo and Marino. I don't remember the times, but Romo's release was faster than Marino's.

I saw that too. And on that pass he had the ball at his waist...not even in a cocked position.

The one other legendary quick release that i would like to see a comparison to was Joe Namith. Of course Namith was no where as accurate as Marino or Romo (look at his stats) but he was Quick.

I remember when ESPN and other media said Romo had a quick release or decent release. Good to see they finally caught on to what we have all known for sometime.

Which is impressive having watched Marino play and been amazed at how quick he was. I have seen him pull the ball up and throw it past the head and directly over the shoulder of an on-rushing lineman who was maybe two steps away. He got plowed under but the ball got out for a completion. I know Romo is quick but I have never seen it as graphically demonstrated as that particular play showed Marino's quickness. It is a rare gift and we are lucky to have a QB that has it.

Umm... I'd say he is on the level of vision and accuracy. Brees probably has better accuracy and Peyton probably has better vision. But he's right there with them, plus he has one over them with his elusiveness and improvisation.
