Is Romo the NFL version of Dirk?

Being a Dallas Mavericks and die hard Cowboys fan,I am wondering if Romo is like Dirk of the Mavs. Both put up great numbers in the regular season but when you need them to step up in a BIG game it just doesn't happen. James Washington was on 105.3 the fan here in Dallas right before the Steelers game, said before the Dallas Cowboys can goto the next level Romo has to come through. He also said that Romo is getting that reputation of not stepping up when you need him. Granted it has been only 2 and a half years as out QB,so he has time to grow. I hope that I am wrong on this but so far he reminds me of Dirk. League wise the Mavericks and Dirk are called soft. Same as Romo and the Cowboys. How many times have you heard other teams say just hit them in the mouth and ball game is over? Just hope I am wrong going into next season.

Gosh I hope not.

Dirk is horrible.

i've not watched basketball in quite awhile but dirk to me was good, great at times, but too inconsistant to really matter in the end.

I meant in big games.

He is a good player.

Just a horrible leader and not clutch at all.

I pray that Romo is not like that ...... but its not looking good right now.

The thing is they both tease you with great numbers when no pressure is on them. Soon as you add a little pressure call it a wrap. I hope I am wrong on this but ex Cowboys are calling him out.

I disagree with you guys. This a huge misconception that usually non hoops guys believe but true sports lovers like yourselves are way above.

Dirk's career playoff stats are FAR higher than his regular season averages.

He is often amazing...and has taken over many series in the playoffs. Everyone just remembers the last series each season---which is always a losing series for all teams unless they win the title. The guy is always double and often triple teamed. This is magnified in the playoffs when you play the better teams night after night. Yet except for maybe a game here or there (like all players) he delivers in the playoffs. Maybe you should check out his career playoffs averages sometime.

Have to disagree.

Me too.

I think he can do it ..... I think his injuries are the only thing that stopped him this year.

But he needs to prove it in the next 2 years.

I have and do watch a lot of basketball. If you remember Kevin Garnett used to have the same reputation. Look at his career with the Timberwolves. He was always awful in the playoffs. Now people dont say that about him anymore. Now he can do no wrong.
The problem isnt Dirk is horrible. The problem is that teams double him with enough intensity in the playoffs and no one else on the team can step up to make them pay.
Dirk is a great player. But he needs to have another dangerous weapon playing with him. He is a amazing shooter who can and will beat anyone 1 on 1. But if he is getting the double team then that means someone else is open and they need to step up. Garnett had the same problems earlier in his career before he became surrounded with hall of famers Ray Allen and Paul Pierce.

Now about Romo. Football is such a team game that its not possible to say he sucks in the clutch. We have to look at so many factors. The media is all over Big Stupid Rothlisberger like he is perfect. But he has done nothing more than manage a game while the defense won the games for them. All he has to do is not F up. If you put him on this team who knows what would happen. He would feel much more pressure to make plays. He wouldnt have the Steel Curtain to bail him out. He would probably look average at best.
Romo is more than capable of winning the big game. He has show time and time again the ability to drive us down the field when it matters and win the games.

I think the real question is does our gameplan and offensive line have enough intelligence to protect him when faced with an aggressive defense?
Or are we going to continue to let teams press and pressure us without making them pay.

Romo and TO both called Jason Garrett out last year when they said teams have figured us out. Its true. They have. Now its Garretts turn to counter.

Is Peyton Manning Dirk?
Because Peyton still does not perform nearly as well in clutch games as he does in the regular season.
He got rid of the stigma because of 1 superbowl win--and his play during the playoff run for that SB was not that good.

Also, Romo can mature. It happens. He does seem to tighten up under pressure right now--but if he can get over the hump in a key game, hopefully it will take the monkey off the back.

Dirk has at least been instrumental in winning in the playoffs, and has actually gotten to the Championships. We'd do better if Romo was more like Dirk. And frankly, if Dirk had the talent level Romo has, he'd likely have won a trophy.

That said, you can take Dirk out of his game. But that is true for all but like three players in the NBA...

As of this year, Romo aint Dirk. Dirk has had a fall from Grace since the 2006 Finals, but at least Dirk took his team to the Finals. Correction, he carried his team to the Finals by playing out of his mind against the Spurs and Suns.

I would say he is more Peyton Manning than Dirk. It took Peyton several tries to win a playoff game and still doesn't play as well in the playoffs as he does in the regular season, sans his super bowl year.

exactly right.I will say this if Dirk gets traded or gets a legit SG on his team he will get a ring, sadly it will be elsewhere, like Garnett.

Well said.

And just as importantly, Dirk picks one part of his game each off season and works on it. He now rebounds well, passes much better, and gasp...is much improved defensively (which was easy to do).

Dirk is about the only thing that is right about the Dallas Mavericks.

Romo is a heck of a player and has only played 2 1/2 seasons and has set a lot of Cowboys passing records already.

Chill a little guys.....

You're like the alter ego of those bots on the OT Zone. You care more about Jessica Simpson than what happens on the field.

Tell us the truth... are you her cyber-stalker? It's not Tony's fault that she's not answering your emails or accepting your friend requests on facebook.
