Is Scarface the best rapper ever?

johnny utah

The other night when I made this thread I was heavily intoxicated. I do like Scarface alot. However, I like many rappers more such as Pac,Biggie,Nas,Ice Cube,Dre,Eazy,Spice 1,Too Short and Outkast just to name a few.

You really need to learn some history.

Biggie > Tupac
A Tribe Called Quest > Tupac
EPMD > Tupac
The Pharcyde (Oakland) > Tupac
Deltron (Oakland) > Tupac
Living Legends (oakland) > Tupac
Poor Rightous Teachers > Tupac
Eric B. and Rakim > Tupac

Nas
Wutang
Mobb Deep

...all better than Tupac.

Cant agree with any of this.

Tupac was way overated, just because he read some books and predicted a few things that anyone with a decent education could do does not make him great.

Also Tupac was basically an angel when he lived on the East coast he didnt do no dirt and was a very very good student ...He was on the east coast until he turned 17 then he moved to the WestCoast.....Tupac was "WEST COAST" from 17-25....smh how much "West Coast" could he really be if he was busy being a back up dancer and touring the world as rapper. The whole "I'M WEST COAST" persona was made up and forced on him by Suge Knight aka Bluto

First sentence is too funny.

Surprised no one has brought up Chuck D's name.
Anyways, Scarface to me is one of my favs because to me every album he makes, I won't be worried that it will be terrible.

Regarding Pac, he isn't overratted but I can see why people think he shouldn't be the greatest. To me, he only had one classic album and that was after he was shot (Me Against the World). I think All Eyes on Me album as a whole was overrated (could of been a classic if Disc 2 was left off of the album and just kept Disc 1). His post-death albums weren't too great but I respected his work ethic. Everyone talked about his work ethic.

The question I have on Pac was his material. He might have influenced the songs but I don't know if some of his songs were his lyrics. I remember Daz winning that lawsuit against Death Row because he claimed he wrote songs and created bridges/hooks for Snoop and Pac and didn't get compensated for it.

Yeah, you are! They are one of the BEST live groups as far as hip hop. Even Mobb Deep, who is my favorite atm, isn't as good LIVE as Wu-Tang. 36 Chambers is a CLASSIC.

@Christiann..where've you been?

I got NWA, Public Enemy, ATCQ

Can't go wrong with any of those 3, however Wu-Tang HAS to be in the discussion somewhere. I also like EPMD, De La Soul, The Jungle Brothers, The Pharcyde, and Souls of Mischief. Although they aren't "top 3" worthy, the've all put out some serious material and left their mark on the game in some way or another. Listening to 3 Ft. High and Rising for the first time was one of the most memorable musical moments in my life.

That album is great. That group (to me) ...eh, good.

And since then what have they come out with is even close ?

Nothing. One hit wonder in a limited market.

Again, I know I am in the minority with this one.

EDIT: Tribe is one of the best live I have ever seen as a group. EPMD sucks live. And I have never seen Wu live.

You're so lucky. I finally got to see Phife last year, but I want to see ALL of them together.

I've been here man! Lurking though..but I'm always down to jump into a hip hop discussion. I totally forgot about Mobb Deep though! They're one of my favorites, but the beef between Havoc and Prodigy is sad.. Anyways Wu-Tang is not overrated at all! 36 Chambers was amazing, I know they didn't have as much commercial success after that but Wu-Tang Forever & The W were solid albums. The thing about the Clan though is that you can't just judge them on being a group, basically ALL of them have certified classics solo. Raekwon's Only Built for Cuban Linx I & II, Ghostface's Ironman & Supreme Clintele, GZA's Liquid Swords, RZA's Bobby Digital & Birth of a Prince Albums, also his stuff with the Gravediggaz. ODB's Return to the 36 Chambers, Method Man's Tical, etc etc. That is why they are respected and often put into the discussion as one of hip hop's most premier hip hop groups.

..And let's be real, the first time you put in the Enter the 36 Chambers CD and you heard a kung ** sample talking about the Wu-Tang was fierce..then right after that you hear RZA's timeless Staten Island voice yell "Bring DA ** Ruckus!"..you knew this group was going to be important. Atleast it was for me.

Tribe was a great performance live, on the contrary though I just saw The Hit Squad at Rock The Bells (EPMD, Keith Murray, K-SOLO, Das Efx, Redman) and they were so dope! I was hoping they'd kill it and it didn't let me down one bit.
