Is something wrong with this defensive scheme?

my only consolation is that we can carpetbomb the defense next year in both the FA and the draft,we can probably make the playoffs provided Romo survives this year.

Why everybody hate Heath so much?
A real S could have been brought in...

They function hand in hand. This scheme requires elite talent, specialized talent in certain positions, to truly click.

In other words, we had no business going all in on the scheme without the same equal commitment from the front office to get the players to make it work.

Instead we have been victims of circumstance and trying to take a very simple scheme and think we can have mediocre talent that does not fit in it, work.

I think they switched the scheme because they didn't have enough 3-4 linemen with the loss of Brent and thought they had enough small & active LB's in Lee and Carter to make it work. They figured they needed one SAM and that was it. Of course they didn't foresee Spencer and Ratliff go down from day one, which knowing their wear & tear shouldn't have come at no surprise. There is no scheme that can work with reclamation projects like the cowboys have on defense. None. This is also why the fans were irate when they failed to address the position in the last two drafts.

Is not that I hate him, he's just a bad football player. I would be ok if he only steps on the field for special teams.

He is a good football player. He is a bad safety. It's not his fault the team had nobody capable in front of him. He earned his spot in camp last year and he can be a heck of a special teams player.

IMO, they wanted coaches that value teaching fundamentals over tricking it up. Kiffin/Marinelli are known for teaching fundamentals.

The talent isn't here and I don't think the coordinators will adjust too much to the talent we have here. I think ultimately they will adjust slightly, but another draft for a few DTs and a good S and things will take place. I know i'm old and really remember the Johnson teams after years of Landry, but I would give anything for a coach that would just run the lazy and cowardly guys off the field. Just put them on the asthma field and wish them well. There is just no toughness in my opinion. There is no "it" factor on either side of the ball...the closest we come is the OL. There seems to be something building there.

What kind of talent do you see on the defense? What guy on defense really stands out to you? There's only so much you can do if the players aren't there.

Marinelli had a monster of a middle linebacker whom was a converted from safety out of college. When you got a guy the size of Urlacher standing in the middle it takes away a huge part of the field......not to mention just better overall talent

Urlacher was a lot shorter until Marinelli got a hold of him.

Manning has one problem he can't get it done when it really counts. I will pass on him.

I hardly count winning a SB and getting there another time is not getting it done. Nor is consistently getting his team in the play-offs.

Losing to the Patriot at the height of their cheating, stealing days is nothing to hang one's head in shame at...

The talent stinks, but we've got more than two players who'd start elsewhere. :)
