Is there a chance Marcus Lucas makes the team?

I hope they do not waste a roster spot on a 4th TE, not this year.
With Witten back, and Jarwin and Schultz emerging. And they have been using Olawale in some TE type roles for blocking in TC. They do not need a 4th TE.
I know McElroy and Lucas look good in the PS games. But there are always players like that and still do not make the team.

They need to do several things to keep 2 extra players at other positions. Only keep 2 QB's and 3 TE's, as that frees up 2 important spots. Extra WR, DL, DB or LB, well a combination of 2 at those spots.

I agree, I don't want them to keep 4 TEs either as I feel it would be at the expense of a better player at another position. However, its happened before and they seem to value additional big bodies that can catch.

Given the fact he’d have find a spot that Witten, Schultz, and Jarwin already man makes it a bit far-fetched.

In fact, my gut tells me this team probably likes the potential of Cody McElroy better.

You have to remember too that Lucas is getting PT by default due to injuries at the position.

They have, but usually not. But even if they keep 3, are we sure Schultz is a lock? I would have assumed so before, and maybe he is because he is a better blocker than Lucas (or at least I assume he is), but Lucas seems to have more to offer as a receiver.

I would think Shultz is safe at the moment for his blocking too, but Lucas could make it interesting in preseason game 4. Personally, I'm not a fan of keeping fringe 53 talent that's injured over a player that shows up and makes some plays. For example, Noah Brown so shouldn't accept the same with our TEs either.

I don’t know if McElroy was nursing an injury or what. But Lucas may have passed him by getting all of the reps at TE.

I know McElroy played, but I did like Lucas better.

But that’s just arguing for the 50-53rd man on a roster and that’s all based on ST and potential.

Tell you what I didn’t like. The holding calls on our O-Line. Every descent run play we had was called back. Some looked like a border line calls but rookies or not Colombo needs to get that taken care of.

Those officials were out of control. I'm hoping it was because they had marching orders to throw lots of flags, try to get the teams ready for the season,,, otherwise that was a pathetic job of officiating.

McElroy was playing with a bum shoulder that he looked like he re-injured.

Seems like a crazy thought, or at least would have at one time, but is there a chance Lucas makes the team? He has had a strong preseason and appears to catch everything and run good routes. I don’t know if he has any practice squad eligibility left.
I just don't know if there's room. When the other guys come back. I thought he showed some good ability

I didn’t notice on all of them, but there was one against Conner Williams and one against Fleming I thought were bad calls.

Columbo looked like he was going to eat someone's face off.
He wan not happy. He likes to have a aggressive O-Line but the holding calls took points off the board. Although I do think some of them were bad calls.

There was a few that even the commentators were saying were head scratchers. There was one that he didn’t even come close to holding. Witten call was close. I saw a PI call that was ticky tac.

The only positive among the officials was #34. Not because he made good calls. Because the dude looked jacked. I think he could play. lol

I was pointing that out to my wife last night. And was wondering why these refs are mostly really old. One looked like he was 70. Get some young faster refs, better eye sight.

I don't see room for him on the 53 but maybe he can clear waivers and be put on our PS.

Don't see the Cowboys keeping four tightends this year,(Witten, Jarwin, Shultz) they need spots to try to keep some of these defensive players, DE, S, cb's.....

McElroy has been playing for a practice squad spot and Lucas isn't even eligible for that since he's been hanging around the league for 5 years worth of practice squads.

I can understand holding on pass plays. I don't like them, but in many cases it prevents a loss of down and somewhere between 6-10 yards. But holding on run plays drives me absolutely crazy! Just stop. Put a hat on a guy and end it. This aggravates me so much that I still remember that game we lost to Detroit about 6 years ago for this very reason.

Lucas makes the 53 MAYBE if we think he is a better option than Shultz. Witten,Jarwin and Lucas would be maybe the best trio of Tightends on any team this year. Otherwise, Lucas gets stashed on the PS.
