Is there another team in league that has more former Cowboys starting than us

Always some wise guy making things overly PC

I know it's at your expense, but I actually like people who correct others with respect to grammar. We're getting too lazy around here - and in society in general - in communicating properly and effectively. And sometimes we need someone to point such things out to us because I can GUARANTEE you that if you are engaged in a job that calls for the use of language, such mistakes stand out and could eliminate you from the job pool.

Properly constructing sentences and understanding how to skillfully use language and words reflect on people's logic skills.

We understood your point, which is the most important issue. But the fact that so many people "liked" his post and, basically, agreed with him says that people understood there was something wrong with how you phrased the issue.

Just saying.

Nice post. I think they believe they want to put players in the best position to succeed but they don't always play to strengths.

TBF, both offenses and defense have evolved to the point you want to put different players on the field in different situations but that still gets back to having them play where they can maximize their strengths. It is just harder to do that as offenses just take advantage of players. You don't have too many LBers who can cover RBs, TEs and even WRs as well as take on interior linemen to crush the run for an example.

But those are good and valid points. Teams are now focusing more on interior linemen. Lately centers have been more values. Now guards are joining them. There are multiple reasons for this and one is the cyclic nature of the evolution of defenses and offenses to exploit one another.

I think one of the issues is that they hope a player with a certain skillset and athleticism in college will be able to do something different in the NFL game. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. I think we're seeing that a bit with Escobar and Hanna. I think they saw a need for 2 TE's that can play and hoped that Escobar and Hanna had the athleticism and size to be competent blockers who could then get out and catch some passes. Hanna's blocking was horrid until this year where it has gotten to the point of being pretty good. Escobar's blocking is better than it was last year, but that's not saying much.

Obviously, Claiborne and Carr were brought in under a different scheme with a different coordinator. But, now we are trying to make those press coverage, man-to-man corners into zone corners. I actually think Claiborne and Carr would be much better in a different scheme.

We did gamble a bit on Martin working out since he was a left tackle in college. But, I think that was a smaller gamble than Claiborne playing zone or Escobar/Hanna becoming better blockers.

Tackle-to-guard conversions are not uncommon. Certain teams (Patriots, I think?) do this quite often because they want athletic guards who can pull. I would be ok with an O-Line of nothing but college guards.

I think they have overestimated talent and underestimated production until lately. Metrics are fine and most players need to generally fit a profile to play in the league; with exceptions. They have been drafting players out of major schools with a track record. You have to have instincts to play or the talent doesn't help as much.

I disagree a little on Hanna and Escobar although not much. I think they were trying to find hybrid TEs/receivers in a fast Hanna and a taller receiver in Escobar who was a pass catching talent. But the fact they bulked them up so much makes me wonder if they did want TE replacements. OTOH, some players just get a lot bigger as they mature to 25 or so.

Carr does need to be physical and play close up. I don't know what to think about Claiborne.

Back OT; we get players from other teams, too. But we have to do better acquiring and keeping talent as well as getting production out of them.

I wonder if Larry Brown sends Neil O'Donnell Christmas cards every year?:muttley:

When people ask "Who was the Cowboys MVP in Super Bowl 30," without hesitation, I said, "Neil O'Donnell."

I still, to this day, wonder what he was thinking. I suspect one of his receivers ran the wrong route not just once but twice, and rather than throwing him under the bus, O'Donnell just accepts the criticism.

But I sure wish a reporter would ask him the question (I assume one has, and he just hasn't answered).

That'd be my guess. Not like he didn't see a dropping LB or a S coming up. Threw it right at a standing still Brown sitting in a Zone.

Pacman and Newman

Ratliff and Bennett

Austin

The Italian TE who I forgot

Who else??

Jenkins in OAK? Walden in GB for a minute. Lissemore in SD. But agree with whoever said it's simply because we know this team's players so well. Bennett looks like the only player we could have used but he should have never been selected in the first place. Newman was understandable @ the time.
