Is there any credible evidence beyond fans speculation Jethro hasn't been involved in offseason?

He's always involved. The difference is he's given Schottenheimer a longer leash to not only hire staff but allow the new staff to help make personnel decisions. Not fringe/st only player decisions but dumping osa after paying him a year ago decisions.

I mainly follow local coverage of Cowboys so may have missed an official announcement or Jethro conceding he’s hasn’t been involved in bringing in new talent in FA and draft on defense.

Keep hearing claims that the better decisions and acquisitions this offseason must mean he isn’t as involved. I’ve been traveling quite a bit this year so maybe I missed some coverage or admissions from Jethro as such.

I must remind fans we have built some other playoff teams this era with Jethro and as recent as with McCarthy had a 5th ranked defense. So it really isn’t that much of a stretch he was involved again.

As long as he is GM, he still gets credit. Same reason he’s been blamed this era. I’ve been a huge critic and I’d lead the parade if he was stepping back.
You haven't seen him on TV talking. Anytime poop hits the fan, Jethro disappears for a while and steps back. When we start to be successful again, he shows up in front of every camera.

We have seen this before several times.

I mean letting Blue and Williams go...Jethro wouldn't do that.

Looks like Jerry and Stephen Jones are just making better decisions.

And people are just going to have to give them credit for it.

As painful as that may be.
I find it hard to believe that after 30 years they suddenly grew a brain

They have had 30 years of mismanagement.
It would take several good years for me to feel positive about them.
They had no choice but to fix the defense this year because of their own incompetence. They did some good things. We have no idea how all this is going to work out though. And if they do somehow win I will give credit to the coaches and the players. I'll Never give credit to Jerry who wasted 30 years when he could have been doing this all along.

So Jerry can only receive blame, not credit.

That doesn’t seem fair.

Because based on the timing and every insiders opinion on the subject, Eberflus was Jerry’s hire.

Schottenheimer finally got a shot at head coaching and was not going to sabotage a chance he had been pursuing his whole career by making Eberflus a line in the sand. Eberflus hiring was leaked to the media jsut hours after Schottenheimers intro press conference.

Schottenheimer and Eberflus long careers had never overlapped and in addition to the piece below, Schottenheimer’s huge Atheltic article said

“Defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, a former Cowboys assistant who was fired as the Chicago Bears’ head coach last November, was recruited directly by Jerry Jones”

Don’t forget, Jerry made Eberflus an offer to become DC while he was on Marinellis staff. Marineli was going to be “assistant head coach” to make room and Eberflus was promised play calling

Eberflus declined and instead went to be the Colts DC

The attempt to promote him in 2018 has all been documented many time

Here’s an article that discussed the Eberflus hire

"He's had tremendous experience. He's dealt with adversity. He's had some great successes. ... I jumped at it when we had the chance to get him. I still feel as strongly (about him as the day we hired him)."

I didn't say it wasn't Jerry's hire, only that there's no evidence that Eberflus was forced on No-Schott. There's a difference.

Jerry and Stephen had already done interviews with head coaching candidates before Eberflus was hired. It is very likely that their desire to make him defensive coordinator was brought up. It would then be up to the coaching candidate to say that he didn't want him. Yes, that could have led to that coach not getting the job, but if you don't voice your dissent, then nothing is forced on you. For all we know, No-Schott could have said, "I think that's great," or "That's who I would have picked anyway."

There's just no reason to believe what they wanted to do wasn't brought up in conversations and if the head coaching candidate wasn't OK with that, he could have walked out.

My belief again is that No-Schott is an offensive coach and his concern was that side of the ball, so he really didn't have a major preference for a defensive coordinator. On top of that, Eberflus had been a successful defensive coordinator in Indy. ... I mean, No-Schott brought in Sorenson as his special teams coordinator and Sorenson hadn't been successful as any kind of coordinator, so Eberflus at least had accomplished more than that.

Why wouldn’t he have?

So how exactly can they ‘win’ in your mind?

How can they ever get credit when things go well this year?
Jethro keeps his mouth shut; Junior as well
we get to the Championship game and are competitive
you homers can settle for less

It's called looking at what the team has done and making assumptions/projections based on what someone is seeing. It's a message board it what a lot of people come here to do. Does not make them right or wrong it is discussion and projections based on the data we have so far.
I’d describe any assumptions/projections that include how far in playoffs we go as pure hype. We’ve seen this all before.

And I understand anyone can throw it out there. But some go as far to present it as a done deal. I’m simply pushing back it’s premature that we don’t pass out trophies before the season begins.

Jerry in the 90a isn’t the same Jerry as we have today. For the record I don’t think Jerry has relinquished control I just think he’s leaning more on his hired hands and they are more qualified than in years past. Shotty ti me is more intuned with what works then McCarthy was.

You have every right to fan how you want. We all do. I’m taking a wait and see approach but I’m gonna commend them for when I see them do something smart because I’m not use to it.
I’m simply here to push back it’s too early to come to these kind of conclusions.

How can Shotty be more qualified and experienced than McCarthy or a Parcells who both built pretty good playoff teams that still came up short.

Why without seeing any action in regular season are we so confident this year is different?

I’m simply here to push back it’s too early to come to these kind of conclusions.
Why? Why can’t people come to these conclusions now? And then be proven wrong or right later?

I think the push back is good and makes good dialogue just wondering…

They can but why can’t I push back.

I’m not interested in who’s right or wrong. I hope you’re right. What I don’t get is why the need to take such a stance now. And why im pushing back cause It’s just hype.
