Does anyone really think that Payton wouldn't jump at the chance to move from HC of the Saints to HC of the Cowboys.
That's like being the coach of the Minnesota Twins and Steinbrenner calls you and asks you to coach the Yankees...
In fact, if that happened, I would feel a lot BETTER about it because Payton now will have HC experience on his resume.
I do love these things about him so far and I know its still early but:
1) he has his team prepared, has the opposition well scouted, and he is playing to the strengths of the players he has
2) He has his team playing well above their talent level. Cmon, some of his best defensive players are cast offs from our roster. Fujita has been very good for them. Killer Keith Davis would be a stud SS for them if we had let him walk too. Payton has gone out and gotten guys that he knows and guys that are fitting his system and its working. Bottomline, Payton is making a 3 course dinner with chopped liver.
3) He looks extremely professional there on the sideline and looks like he is the dude in charge....there are a number of coaches that don't look like they're the DUDE over there, the worst ever being Spurrier at Wash. Tice was bad too. Payton looks like he has instantly won the respect of his players and they listen to him. I guarantee you that isn't the case on every team.
4) for the first time in history, the Saints look like a disciplined team. They aren't leading the league in penalties and aren't killing themselves or drives with penalties.
5) he's a QB coach. He'll do well developing QBs and putting them in a position to succeed IMO.
6) I'm starting to wonder if our complaints about him while he was here were unwarranted and that maybe, just maybe BP was the guy we should've been blaming. Perhaps BP was the one putting his foot on the brake all the time?
Its still early and maybe not all of these will turn out to be true....but that is what I see through 3 games....
I'm liking what Payton is doing in that toilet franchise and starting to think that YES, I would like him to take over the greatest sports franchise in history when BP leaves. But I still reserve the right to change my mind.
